Is it possible to be allergic to canned food, only?
Last year Spencer developed facial swelling and was scratching his face to the point he was removing chunks of fur. The inside of his mouth was tomato red. We switched him to a single protein dry food for allergies "d/d Feline" venison flavour.
I tried giving him some of that same food in canned form, but he started to scratch, so I went back to the dry. He's been fine ever since.
Periodically I have given him one or two pieces of a regular Greenies cat treat, and he's been fine.
A couple days ago I split a can of Fancy Feast Chicken Pate between Katie and him, and later that night I noticed him scratching again.
He's fine now, but has been back on his d/d Feline dry for 2 days now.
Is it possible that he's allergic to something inside the canned food itself, other than the protein? Like I said, he's had regular Greenies cat treats periodically without any problem, and they aren't single protein.
He just seems to start scratching after eating canned food.
