My queen delivered two babies last night about an hour apart. The first was a stillborn I tried for 20 minutes to revive and warm and stimulate it with no luck. The second one was born and survived but it is very tiny. Last nights weight was just under 3 oz and has a bald/very thin fur spot on its but mom did good last night with it but has since started ignoring it. And won't go check on it very often. My concern is if it is a preemie and mom turns her back on it. Is there something I can do to crate it around with me to care for it. Mom also seems like there are more babies in her but isn't showing any signs of labor. How can I make sure if she is done. I have read about interuped births were some babies are born 24 hours later. Both kittens and placentas we delivered last night as well. I am really worried about the baby as mom doesn't seem very attentive to it. I am a sole provider for my family and can't stay home to care for it. Is there anything I can do. I am also going to contact my vet once it opens.

Is mom nursing the baby at all? If not, the newborn needs to be supplemented with kitten formula every 2 hours around the clock! The baby must also be kept warm with either a heating pad set on low under the blanket, or a sock filled with rice and microwaved for 5 minutes, then wrapped in a towel and placed nearby. Kittens cannot regulate their body temperature on their own for 3 weeks.

Mom may have more kittens to deliver. These 2 may have been delivered prematurely for some reason, and the others will come when they are ready. If mom is not in distress, there is nothing to worry about.

If you cannot care for the baby, and mom won't, you need to get it asap to someone who can. The kitten will die without food or warmth.

Occasionally, a mom who is still laboring may appear to ignore a baby until she's completely done delivering.

Mom is nursing some the baby has a powerful set of lungs. The thing is the baby will be crying and mom will just sit there. I tried to help guide it to her nipple last night and it kept moving to her butt. I have some kmr I am giving it to try and help supplement my scale is broke so the weight I have isn't accurate. I went and picked up a new scale and will have a more accurate weight on baby this evening. I am not giving up on the baby.

Mom seems to be fine not is distress or anything just her normal self. I can care for it and have been gathering supplies incase I need to transport baby with me everywhere. And enclosed carrier with out many vent wholes blankets and heating pad for at home currently using rice bags. But if I need to transport baby with me for a few weeks. I will need those for the carrier. Not sure if transporting baby is a very good idea was thinking if it is kept warm and away from drafts and light it should be OK right. I will do what I have to.

Why would you need to transport the baby?

How much KMR are you giving the baby, and how often?

Continue to put the baby to mom's nipple. Does it latch and nurse at all? Mom's care is preferable, unless it's not getting enough.

The reason I was gearing up for transport is if she neglects it all together it will need me. To care for it round the clock which means it will need to be with me. Just want to be ready for it just in case kinda like worst case scenario type thing. She is nursing now. And with the kmr. I am just giving the baby a teaspoon broken down through out the day. So far today I have given the baby about 1/4 teaspoon. I am trying not to give it to much because she is nursing some. And I don't want to over feed it. I am gonna re weight tonight and see where it is with weight. I am just the sole provider for my family. So I have to go to work. I took today off due to exhaustion from last night and being up with her all night.

Ah, you did say originally that you are sole provider. Yes, so if necessary, bring it. I'm hoping mom will do the honors, but the scale will let us know for sure. It can also take a day or two for mom's milk to fully come in, but the kitten should at least be getting colostrum.

It's very difficult to overfeed a kitten. Once you get a weight we'll go from there. Are you home on the weekend?

Yes the weekends are my days off once I can get an accurate weight I will feel better. My scale dropped and broke I was using an old school one with a dial on it. So I picked up a digital one so I can get more accurate weights.

Current weight for the only kitten we have yet is 3.96oz. I know that is a pretty good weight and I feel somewhat better having a more accurate weight on the baby.

With the first one that was born something went wrong. Could that cause the issues we are having with her not delivering the whole litter as of yet? With the first one the umbilical cord came out first the kitten came out without a sac around it and the placenta and kitten came at almost exactly the same time. With the second kitten it was born first mom had it all cleaned and freed and it was meowing and the placenta came about 5 minutes later. I am just wondering if the issue with the first could of caused the labor interuption

I doubt it. Cats often have kittens hours or even days apart. She will have the others when Mother Nature dictates. She may have mated several days apart with different toms as well.

That's a very good weight! How's the nursing going?

Last nights weight was a little less. Weighting 3.6. I am gonna weight again tonight and see what it is. I am wondering why she don't take care of it like she should. I have also noticed that it's front paws and bent inward like its trying to walk on its ankle is this normal? At this age. I am gonna try to get a picture so you can see exactly what I mean.

You can fix the paws by warming each paw and leg with your fingers by gently rubbing.  When they are warm, gently move them into place.  Do this four or five times a day.  the kitten is growing at a fast rate and this could be corrected within a week or two.

You may need to close her in a room with her kitten for a few days, rather than let her move around freely. The kitten appears to have gained weight though, which is excellent. Are you still supplementing?

If the kitten's paws are bent inward, you should gently massage the leg and paws to try and straighten them to where they need to be. A kitten's skeleton is soft at this age, and problems such as this can be corrected if dealt with quickly. A picture would be helpful.

Weight tonight is 3.5 but everytime it move the weight changes. It's taking about 2-2 1/2 cc every feeding which I am doing about every hour to two hours.
