Yesterday afternoon, Schrodie and I were having a cuddle in the bedroom when I heard the front door open unexpectedly, and some male voices. I reached for my 'bedside companion" (if you get my drift) and called out, "Who's there?" as I got up. At the same time, Schrodie-- who is usually rather timid when strangers come in-- must have picked up on my reaction to a perceived "intruder". He was hackled up, coat bristling, snarling like a miniature tiger, approaching the perceived "threat' in a way that made it clear that he would attack if provoked. I had never seen him act that way before-- but he had never seen me react the way I did, either. Something was clearly not right-- we had been "trespassed"...

...by the property management's maintenance crew.

There were a couple of panicked looks for a few seconds... then a realization of what was going on. They were by to do the semi-annual HVAC inspection and smoke detector checks. Nobody called to say they were on the way "in a few minutes".  I have a clear note in the system to call or knock before entering so I can put the cats up. They didn't abide by that.  People don't normally just walk into my home uninvited. It's not healthy. Things almost became unhealthy right then.  VERY  unhealthy.  I still had my "bedside companion" in my hands and ready for business... I quickly put it away as soon as everything became clear.

My brave little boy wasn't the only one ready to defend this home.

I'm very well aware that if this had been a real invasion and he did that, he could have been killed. I know that. But I am deeply touched that Schrödinger Glenn-- my precious Tonkinese-- was willing to act bravely like a Warrior to defend his home and 'Clan" at risk to himself. He might be a little put out with me at the moment for all the medicine he's had to take lately for his stomatitis-- but he obviously cares deeply enough to defend us as best as he would have been able.

"Some cat" got an extra special meal as a reward and token of thanks... thank you, my brave little Warrior buddy. (Leafshadow! Leafshadow! Leafshadow!...!!)

This is a wonderful story, and I have no doubt that Schrodie picked up on your energy (ready to defend home from intruders) and he was right there beside you ready to do it.  There was a story in the paper about a Siamese who attacked an intruder by jumping down on his back from the stairway, scared the sh**t out of him and he ran.  While Schrodie may be shy of strangers who come in the house, you don't go into alarm mode so he has nothing to go by, but if you are scared, he obviously rises to to the occasion and will protect you.

Although no one else has answered yet, I can see that 35 people have read this post and I'm sure they enjoyed it.  It doesn't really require an answer, it's just a great example of how our cats are as protective as dogs sometimes.  Thanks for sharing it!

Good for you and Schrodie!  My 2 Persians are the biggest Pussy Cats in the world!  I'll be giving them treats, and if there's a sharp noise out front like the garbage truck, they are history - off at Mach 2 to hide in their Cat Trees for at least 15 minutes!

He IS my Good Boy. I don't think there's enough room in the whole universe to hold all the pride and love I have for that little guy. Of course I love all my cats very very much -- but he's my special little buddy.
