I think my kitty's look similar. I've just switched to a mostly canned diet and am so confused that I posted up a new thread :vibes: How often does your cat poop and which canned food do you use? I'm curious too see if it's similar to my kitty

He poos on average once a day. It comes out like that all the time and a few times a week the first part is like that and the last bit is sloppy or runny, to the point I have to wipe his butt, but only a small part. But sometimes when it is like that I don't have to wipe his butt. About 50/50 of the time I have to wipe when the last bit is runny.

I told the vet when he was on science diet dry, and it did it then, said its Just a change in diet, as the 97% of the poo is normal. At that point we only brought him home two days before.

I changed his to wet food not long after. We bought him in March this year.
At the moment he is on fancy feast wet food and purina felix pouches. We give him greenies and felix treats sometimes and the science diet kibble as treats. I find if he eats some dry food it doesn't seem to do that and is normal. We can't afford to give him better quality wet food all the time, but plan to give him better quality a few times a week.
He is otherwise fine.
I dunno if I am introducing too many things and need to go slowly with the different flavours within each purina brand. I tend to stick to the Chickhen and turkey flavours. I am thinking It might be the fancy feast that is doing it. Kinda at my wits end about it.
I clean his litter after every time he uses it and he is wormed etc with revolution. He is up to date with vaccinations as well. I brush him everyday as well. I am a stay at home mum so I pamper him with brushing etc and blankets around the place eg lounge chair lol.
One thing is though he is a garbage guts and has eaten elastic bands and eaten bits of plastic off shopping bags and other things I have no idea about, probably bits of fluff and grass from outside.
He is a indoor cat only. I have been also brushing his teeth the last week or so every few days and putting on a harness. But the poo problem has been going on since we brought him home. Vet said it was normal, I think it is, as its not diaherra and he not in pain or anything.
Should I just give him one type of flavour in the pouches for a few days and introduce flavours over a longer time frame?
I have been writing down what he eats and when he goes so I can see if there any patterns, but only thing I can think of is that I am introducing too many flavours. I do t want him to be bored though with just eating Chickhen or turkey for days on end.
I need help, any advice please of what to try.

Hi lovely! It's great you're trying your best for him, yes canned / wet food is expensive and you're a wonderful owner for giving him the best you can afford. Ingrid on the Conscious Cat blog mentioned Fancy Feast is one of the better cans in the lower price bracket, so that's encouraging. You could also look into Barf style patties, there is the BARF brand at PetBarn and Big Dog Food for Cats brand available at Pet stock, the latter being reasonably priced when you compare it to premium canned. Some people feed just that, or as 1 of the main meals, or even occasionally. Personally I'm not sure if it's safe to feed as a main diet, but I I have a box in my fridge waiting to be tried out. Research it and ask the company questions, perhaps it's something that could also work. Oh the greenish tinge thing in the poop, my kitty gets that too sometimes BUT if you're tracking his/her diet, then see if the Greenies could be causing it. I have a sneaking suspicion they could turn poops slightly green.

My cats also go out and nibble on the tops of grasses, so a little greenish is normal for them.  Their canned food is mostly grain free or with added rice only, no wheat, corn or soy.

Thanks for the detailed chart, @LTS3!   That will be very useful to everyone searching anything about "cat poo color" and I just sent a copy to a friend of mine who has an older cat who has been having constipation problems.  She will feel better knowing all those details.

Hi all, what do you think of this morning's load? It's lighter than usual (once cracked opened - so gross). I'm assuming this is the result of a premade Barf patty. Should i be scared?

The ingredients are Kangaroo, finely ground kangaroo bone and cartilage, lamb heart, kangaroo liver, kangaroo kidney, kangaroo heart, carrots, celery, apples, pears, ground flaxseed, fish oil, yoghurt, alfalfa powder, kelp powder, wheatgrass, garlic

WARNING - CAT POOP PHOTOS
