Hiya! Happy Tuesday ~

What do you love most about your veterinarian?

I currently go to two - one place has great vet assistant and front staff, most of them are so friendly and engaging, and seem to really give the impression that they love what they do and care about the animals The other place, I really like the vet there, she is very nice, speedingly knowledgeable and straightfoward, nor pushy.

It's definitely the sense that he cares about the animals that are brought in, that it's not "just a job".   The fact that he personally has some senior kitties (in their teens) is also encouraging in the sense that he knows how much a particular animal means to a person and won't "write off" because of a chronic, but treatable,  condition (like diabetes or thyroid issues).

We go to a medical group, so it could be any of about 4 or 5 main vets.

ALL are fantastic. Warm, personable, trustworthy, seriously love the animals that come in to see them. Really good at trouble shooting and listening. Can't say enough good things about them,  Their staff are equally the same.  Great group of people.

there are so many things i love about my veterinarians -- there are two veterinarians in the vet clinic i bring my cats to. but the thing i love the most is that they stood by us, were there for us, and cared for/treated my little snick
so carefully and well while she was on at home/hospice care. it's something that makes them stand out, shows them to operate at a level above some/many other vets.

and i'll never forget their gentle care of my snick. so every year at Christmas, i bake them something as a Christmas gift -- to the two vet's, and to the staff.

I go to a vet practice also, but mainly see the one vet. They are all good, but he's just been very helpful with my babies. He really cares about THEM, not just their problems. He understands that they are more than the sum of their test results. He's also very aware of my financial situation, and tries very hard to keep costs down, especially considering everything I've gone through with Sara lately. I joked that I would buy stock in their practice if they had it available.

And while this may seem silly, I like that he wears his heart on his sleeve. He cried when we put Lucky to sleep. He had to go out in the windy rain and cold without a coat to compose himself afterwards. And he never even has to tell me something is bad. I can tell by the tone of his voice. Same if something isn't bad. Whenever my mom calls me at work to tell me he called with test results or something, I just have to ask what the tone of his voice was.

I only know one vet, actually i visited the vet clinics only one time in my whole life, and this one time is today!, I'm going to get my little cat spayed so they needed to do some tests before the operation and thats why i visited them today. Her operation is going to be this Saturday.
My first impression is good about them, they're kind, act gently with cats, and they give them love, they also give love for humans, they have a good looking waiting room, with free WiFi and phone chargers!, and free coffee to insure you don't get bored while waiting.
The place looked very nice and quiet, i didn't see any mad or sad pets there which is another good thing.

We go to a 2-vet practice. Both are not only very competent, but willing to take the time to explain or discuss illnesses, treatment options, etc.. At least one of them is available on weekends (they alternate) and pretty much 24/7 for real emergencies.

My vet seems genuinely concerned about animals. He even comes to the house so we don't have to bring the strays and very sick ones in, and 'forgets' to charge us for most of the things he does. He says we give him enough business to deserve a discount. He is very knowledgeable and if there is bad news he tells us in a compassionate manner, always saying "If it was MY cat....." When he informed me about my Burt's enlarged heart, he said that Burt has lived a good long life and that we should just love him and make him happy in the time he has left. He refused to say how much time Burt has left, he said that cats are always surprising him by NOT doing what is considered normal. He said that health wise they are about the strongest animal he treats and have come back from certain death many times. I like that he goes by his first name too, Dr. Wayne instead of sounding so formal.

I did that too,
Baked every year & took them all something.
There were also two vets (both women) at the practice I took Angel to, Not to mention it was a cat only place! :)
Everyone there was always friendly, & personable.
His vet & the tech that uaually worked with him were very sweet & loving. I trusted them 100%.
It was comforting to have them there through all the chemo, & everything we went through knowing how much they cared, & on that final day as well. While on my lap those final moments, his vet was squating down in front of him, giving him little strokes up the bridge of his nose, also telling him what a good, sweet boy he was, waiting for me to let her know when I was ready.
She also teared up. She was just so sweet, giving me hugs in that time, as well as my mom too. Who she just met. The tech even made a point in coming out before we left to give me a really big hug. It all meant so much. Even from the receptionist I always talked to gave me a hug when she took is back, because she could see how much I'd already been crying. They know how very much I loved him. He was such a good boy there, through it all, & seeing him every week for a while, I know they did too. :rbheart:

I go to a cat's only practice that was started by a certified feline specialist.  They got Patches diagnosed and his IBD under control after six years of vet hopping.  When I took him there he was actually in fatty liver and they got him through that.  I didn't realize how serious it is and how high the mortality rate is until I started seeing threads about it here.  They never even brought up any of that they just did what was needed.  They kept him for a few days to get the feedings right with the feeding tube before I brought him home.  I have seen people here have real issues initially because their vet sent their kitty home right after the tube was put in, I had no issues whatsoever.

Their aren't any certified specialists there full time now, one of the founders still fills in when needed but for the most part she is retired now.  They are still very good though.  Their charges are a little higher than average for this area.  After seeing how bad vet care can be I gladly pay the higher charges.

I go to a satellite location for a bigger practice and usually see 2 of the 3 vets that work out of there.  Both are so great.  "When Noodles went into heart failure I had to take her to the main location and then to the emergency vet because it was the weekend.  Monday morning I heard from her vet (who I'd just seen shortly before the heart failure started) and I could really see how much she cares!

Both vets are very good about listening to me.  They are very interested in what I observe at home (neither of the girls handle well at the vet...) and then work with me to come up with a treatment plan that works both for the girls and my pocketbook.  They don't push unnecessary tests and procedures.  They give me the facts and options and help me make informed decisions.  They are honest and compassionate.  They will answer questions; even over the phone.

She's a cat only practice and she will listen to you and seems to truly care about the cats.
