My cat Pumpkin hid under the bed the first couple of days after being neutered. Didn't even have to worry about him being too active. But aside from being annoying with me for taking him to the vet he didn't take long to return to normal. Some cats will lick a lot and you have to really keep an eye on them but mine didn't. They recover really quickly.

I forgot to mention that we are getting him chipped at the same time. He's a house cat as we live in an apartment but we have floor to ceiling sliding doors in the living room, he loves to sit there and watch the pesky birds! I really wish we could let him onto the balcony but there is a gap at the bottom so not a good idea. I leave the door open a tiny crack so that he can sit and feel the fresh air, he never tries to get out but loves to sit there and watch the world go by... When he's not running around like a nutter!

Good plan having him chipped while he is out. Our girl had hers while she was concious. I was horrified by how huge that needle is.

We were a bit worried about getting Junior fixed as well, honestly the boy didn't skip a beat.   We were expecting him to be tired, in pain, *something* but he was just as rambunctious as ever and healed perfectly.  It's not to say there can't be complications but these surgeries are so common and well practiced that it's pretty rare for anything to go wrong.

The needle is big but the location they stick it in has very few nerve endings so they don't feel much of anything.  I remember the first time I stuck a microchip in an animal, it freaked me out how hard it was to insert and thought it would cause the thing so much pain... it didn't even flinch.

That is good. My cat didn't seem happy about it. She meowed loudly when they put the needle in. But maybe she just didn't like being held still.

I can't recall any male in our family ever having any complications from neuter surgery.  And a lot of doctors don't use sutures with a neuter surgery.  Your little guy shouldn't have any problems whatsoever; he may be a little bit drowsy the first day post-surgery, and his doctor will undoubtedly send him home with post-op instructions on when to offer water and food, etc.  The longer he is with you, the more he should be able to trust you, which may very well result in him becoming more and more affectionate and willing to be picked up.  Best of luck!

Thanks for all the advice and well wishes guys, I'm sure he'll be fine but you've made me feel so much better! Tomorrow is the day. I'll let you know how we go!

Here's another recent pic of my little guy X

Well it all went well. He cried all the way to the vets but didn't make a peep on the way home. Poor thing was very sleepy but didn't actually go to sleep all afternoon, just wondered around feeling sorry for himself. He didn't come near us really and wouldn't settle. He was starving though. I only gave him a little food as the vet said he may be sick but he was fine and wanted more. He didn't come to bed last night until 3.30 and then stayed away from me but came for strokes at 5 and seemed much happier.

My partner said he was fine when he left for work at lunchtime today so I'll see how he is when I get home. Funny little guy. I'm glad it's over, I could have burst into tears when I left him at the vets! Haha.

I don't know what it is about leaving them behind but it always is so sad. Hope hes doing well when you get home.

Bless his little heart! He was probably scared and confused, and then felt "off" when he got home. He'll forget all about it in a few days. I'm glad his appetite is good! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It's normal for them to still be a bit groggy when they come home. He will get back to his old self before you know it.

My cats are like that sometimes when they go to the vet. They'll be annoyed with me for the rest of the day and be back to normal the next day. I'm glad everything went well. I'm sure your kitty forgive you and be back to himself real soon.

I remember when I took Rose to get spayed, I was a nervous wreck about it. She had never  been away from home for so long before--and I was leaving her in the care of what was, essentially strangers. If I hadn't volunteered at that shelter when I was in high school, I'm not sure I could have done it.

I'm glad to hear it went well!  How is he now?

And I understand about leaving him at the vets!  When my girls were done I had to take them to a clinic farther away; about a 40 minute drive from home.  I was so nervous leaving them I decided to get off the 'straight shot" highway and take a more relaxed paced back road. Except I took a wrong turn.  I remember my cell phone rang and it was one of my closest friends and I told her "All I can see is CORN!!"

Awww, he did great! Some of ours have come back dopey and staggering from the anaesthetic.  Sounds like he came through with flying colors.  ConCATulations!

He's back to normal now. No change at all, running around and playing and waking me up three times a night!! He's healed well, it's like it never happened.

I thought he might calm down on the jumping up and biting but not yet. I'm still covered in scratches. He gets so excited! Haha.
