Took my Sassy to the vet yesterday, and she has a UTI. He gave her an antibiotic shot and said she should start feeling better within 48 hours. She's very lethargic. She will drink water but I haven't been able to get her to eat anythIng today. It just breaks my heart to see her like this. :( She's normally a very cuddly cat, and also has a soft blanket she loves, and she doesn't really seem to want to be cuddled, and doesn't want anything to do with her blanket. Just wondering if there is anything else I could be doing to help her feel better?

Your poor little girl.  Cistitis is nasty for cats, just as it is for humans.  What we sometimes forget it how it makes you feel lousy as well as being painful, so it is no wonder Sassy is quieter than usual and not wanting cuddles.   Keeping her warm and making sure she has plenty of water to drink, and little snacks of wet food if she will take them is the best you can do for her right now (given that you have been to the vet and she has had the medication she needs).

I used to have a cat who was prone to cistitis when she was younger, and later developed a chronic bladder inflammation which would quickly develop in to acute infections from time to time.  My poor baby looked like a wet rag when she had an acute infection, I felt so bad for her what she was going through.

If Sassy is tentative about using her litter and you suspect she might be looking elsewhere it might be a good idea to try putting down something like puppy training pads close to her litter.  Sometimes peeing on a softer absorbant surface is less painful and it might avoid her selecting a bit of carpet or clothing.  Hopefully she will already be making a swift recovery having had the antibiotics though.   Of course, if she doesn't seem better really soon give your vet a call in case the antibiotic hasn't done what it should.

   for Sassy.

It's really important for her to eat.  Offer her some plain meat baby food to entice her to eat.  If she's avoiding the box, try Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter, which is an additive that you sprinkle on top of your current litter.  Hoping the meds kick in soon and she's feeling better soon!

Thanks for your responses. Sassy got a lot worse and we took her back to the vet. She was almost 16 and we could tell she was miserable. She's been too good of a cat for us to make her suffer any longer. She's now running and playing in kitty heaven.

I am so sad for you @csmith93  , this is always such a hard decision.   It must have been difficult to see Sassie in more pain and unwell despite having had the antibiotics.   She has been a lucky cat to live in such a loving home, and one where she would not be left to suffer  but be taken to the vet as soon as you saw she was not getting better.

Run free Sassie.
