So quick update on momma, with some unfortunate news. I had an appt at a low cost clinic to get her spayed today, would have been 30$. They told me check her mammory glands to make sure they were empty. Upon checking i noticed alot of nodules all over her stomach. I cancelled the spay appt and took her to the vet today. The Dr said it is a fast growing cancer :-( he said at this point there is no reason to spay as the surgery could likely push her over the edge. She was not euthanized as shes not in any distress. Unfortunately he said treatment most likely would not help as he feels it has already metastasized throughy her body.

So her one last thing in the world was to provide me with a beautiful kitten, I think thats a life well ended!

Oh, goodness! This is so sad! Poor mama!

Did the vet do a biopsy to know for sure if it's cancer?

If it is cancer, the pregnancy hormones would have made it grow faster.

I'm still really surprised she even had Jasper.

I would ask for a biopsy as well, to rule out something less aggressive. Will mama be able to stay inside?

That really is so sad. Does she have a name? Poor lady. Thank you for taking her in.

So sad indeed.  How is your mother taking this bad news?  The mother cat is her cat, is that correct?    I know you are grateful for the gift of little Jasper, but your mother must be in shock as we all are.

Oh so sad....poor mama, and poor your mom..and you...

Little Jasper is a real miracle boy....

A biopsy may be a good idea. Is Mama going to stay indoors? It would be best for her...

Well there wasnt any bumbs prior to ger pregnancy. And the vet said he could do a biopsy but he said hes 90% sure that it is cancer. And the vet actually said to but her back outside, he said that where she seems to be the happiest. When she inside she just lays around, when shes outside shes running and playing and such. Her name is tobi. And my moms not happy about it, and correct it is my moms cat

The vet said the biggest reason he didnt want to do a biopsy is that there are sooooo many lumbs i mean alot that it would ve hard on her for the surgery, and how they felt was representative of cancer.

Okay. She should live out her days enjoying life outside then. Bless her heart. She's been a good mom. Hopefully she has some time left.

Does she seem to be okay right now? Eating well? Not in pain? Did the vet say how long she might live?

That sounds fine to me too as long as she comes in when she's too weak to take care of herself out there. Poor Tobi. Please keep us posted on her. Did the vet say how long she has?

Yeah shes eating well and doesnt seem to be in pain. The vet doesnt know for sure, kind of one of those things with humans, he said could be 1 mo, could be 3, could be longer its hard to tell. He said that because he cant determine how it has spread without invasive surgery that he cant put a time limit on it.

Yes they are still together. Im kinda torn on when to separate them. Part of me wants to get her outside where shes the happiest, but i also want the to stay together. The vet said it would be fine to seperate them now but that was a "fine". I will say they are together in the same room but he sleeps in the cat house she slees on the floor the only time they really get together is during feeding time.

It's a tough call. I don't like that Tobi is stuck in the bathroom day in and day out.

How about if you let mom outside tomorrow, and hang around for awhile and see how she does. Plan on taking Jasper back to your place if mom wants to stay out.

Try it for a day or so. If mom seems upset or is looking for Jasper, or wants to go back inside, take it from there.

He's 8 weeks this weekend, and seems happy with you. He should be okay.

Let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Well tobi is back outside. Shes been set up with two cat houses, one large for ger to sleep in, the other smaller to keep her food in. When i put her outside she just kind of stood there for a bit then walked down the steps and started to walk around. I went back inside to get her food and she disappeared. I called for her and she came running from around the house, i put her food down, she sniffed it then waljed down the steps again and just started walking around. As far as jasper, well hes happy anywhere hes currently terrorizing my cats hahaha

Oh Poor Tobi. I am so sorry to hear. They can take a sample of the lump without surgery but I guess it doesn't matter. I wonder if the lumps are fat deposits? My elder girl has these-my vet took a needle and took a sample of one then put on a wet slide and looked at it under the microscope=she said it was fat deposits. I wonder if they can do this but either way I understand.

someone on another community talked about kitty birthcontrol=it was something they added weekly to wet food to stop ovulation of the eggs. It was on the yahoo feline asthma group-someone wrote about it for caring for ferals but didn't have funds to fix the mom cats. Maybe this is an option to make sure Tobi doesn't get pregnant again.

Jasper sounds like he is kicking butt and taking names. He looks so adorable in his photo. Cutie pie!

I just looked up that birthcontrol-here is a website-that explains everything-this may be an option to opt out of spaying for Tobi

http://birthcontrolforcats.com/index.htm- looks like you crush the pills and make a suspension with distilled water and store in a dark cool jar with that light blocking color jar-keeps for 2 years. This is given twice a week. mixed in wet food. I THINK this would be a great alternative to spaying Toby.
