My cat has herpes and anxiety. She is constantly getting flairs from her herpes caused by her anxiety and easy to stress. Do you know any way I can control her anxiety and stress? She is expensive to take care of since she has that, but also she is outdoors so I just got rid of her fleas. I gave her worm away. Does anyone know how I will know if it is working? Online it said I would seem them in her feces which I have not yet. It is supposed to show improvement in 2-3 days so I am not sure if it has different signs for different cats, kind of like us. She has red stains on her white fur. However, I have looked under the fur and there are no scabs or cuts to convince me it is from blood. Do I need to shave her there? Is there another cause for red die on hair?

My cat may be considered a farel since I adopted her from an animal homeless shelter. I have had her since 2011 so she may not fall under it. I appreciate any advice or tips. Thanks Cat Loves.

OK, let's tackle one issue at a time.

1)  For the herpes, are you giving L-Lysine in her food twice a day.  Most people with Herpes cats give that.  Here's a thread on it:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/266987/should-i-give-my-kitten-l-lysine-how-much

2)  For stress and anxiety, which is kind of odd for outdoor cats, we normally refer people to this article.  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/six-surefire-strategies-to-reduce-stress-in-cats

3)  For fleas, here is another article:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/cat-fleas

4)  Why did you give her the Worm Away in the first place.  Did you see evidence of Round Worms?  If she doesn't have them, then you won't see them in her stools.  If you think she may have TAPE worms from the fleas, then Worm Away may not work, since it appears from the packaging that I saw when I googled it (since I'm not familiar with it), that it's not for Tape worms.

5)  Not sure what the red is in her white fur.  Does it wash off.  If it's big enough to see, and looks like blood, I would think she has either been in a fight and this is either her blood or someone else's.

6)  Feral means they normally have no interaction with humans.  They are afraid of us because they have never been around us.

Hi greenjeans, the vet told me she had worms and fleas. I got rid of the fleas with lavender salt. It is one of the house remedies I found. The waste of the fleas I got rid of using a waterless cat shampoo.

She does have tapeworms, and the pet stores as well as other stores only had round worm medicine. I looked at reviews on work away and there were a lot of 5 star rating software people getting rid of tapeworms with it. Precious has further growing back which is a sign of nutrients being back but I have not seen the worms come out.

Supposedly, after they are dead the cat should release them in their feces. I did look at the red fur, but as I said in my first post, there are no cuts, scabs or any other normal cause.

Precious has always had anxiety disorder. When I first got her, I was the only person she would have anything to do with. Over time, she has started to interact with the rest of the family. However, she still shows signs of anxiety and few times a day. I know it is odd as she is a risk taker loving to be outdoors.

What areas on her fur are red? Around the mouth/eyes? Saliva and tears oxidize when exposed to air so they turn red. We can't see it on darker cats but of course everything shows up on white cats. There are tear stain removers that might work. If the red parts are other places, well, I can only think it's blood. Maybe it's from the flea dirt? Which also turns red when dissolved.

Can you find a product such as Advantage or Frontline? If so, that will be a lot more effective at keeping the fleas away.

As to the tapeworms, I can only say that from what I 've read, there is ONE effective active ingredient that kills them, and that is praziquantel, found in other de-wormers, not Worm Away.  This may be why you haven't seen any evidence of them in her feces.

Willowy, the red fur is on her back in the area that was most congested with the fleas before I killed them. Then it was the small area where majority of the feces were. I moved here fur around trying to find a scab, cut, wound ext but I have not seen any to believe it is blood.

The fleas I killed with Epsom salt that an article said fleas are killed by salt and lavender so the salt in used was lavender.

I have been giving her waterless baths now for 3 days so most of the feces are gone. She does not scratch her back anymore so I am certain they are gone.

MrsGreenJeans. I know with worms the cat will be malnutrition. Precious lost a lot of hair over that time and ate like she has never before. I gave her a lot of high nutrient food as well as a cat vitamin supplement. She is now growing hair back and starting to eat less but still more than her norm.

She has been more social with me a lot, some what more with my family, and purring a lot more.

I would think she is better with this. She uses the bathroom in litter so she may have worms in her feces that blend in with the white color of her litter.

Mrs Green Jean. Referring back to your response to my initial post, the l-levine, I think that is it, but that is the medicine is have her on now. I mix it in her wet food each morning. The vet put it on her for the condition she had. He told me it was a flair from her herpes but based on your response that is to treat and control the condition. I guess it will be permanent then.

Let's just hope that dewormer did the trick then.  Did you use it more than once.  Again, from what I've read, you usually need to use it once, then again a few weeks later because often then get reinfested from the eggs they may ingest while cleaning themselves up.  As to why you aren't seeing the segments in her stool, I'm really not sure.  I guess it's possible they are covered in her litter...I've never had a cat with worms so have no on-hand experience with them.

The fact that she is more social, AND growing her fur back could be from the loss of the fleas.  I'm sure she feels better about that, and should be scratching a lot less, which might account for her fur coming back in

L-Lysine is usually an over the counter supplement that is added to their food ALWAYS (for Herpes cats).  250 mg in the morning and 250 mg in the evening unless they are having a flare-up.  Then it gets increased to 500 mg for those time frames.  It is usually mixed into their food.  During flare-ups sometimes if it's bad, the Vet may put them on additional meds.   If you are giving your little one this medication right now, what does the bottle or jar way on it as to what it is?  And what were your instructions...just once a day?  how much?
