My kitty gets Orijin Cat&Kitten between wet food meals as a snack, but he's recently lost interest in it.

He does seem to like the Performatrin Ultra Grain Free (Turkey, Duck, Salmon) but it's a bit too starchy with all those potatoes :/

I've been thinking about trying one of the Acana flavors but I'm unsure, since they're lower in protein than Orijin.

Are there any other dry foods that are similar in quality and protein to Orijin/Acana?

(he's tried the Nature's Variety Rawboost chicken and didnt like it)

Just bumping this up for you.  Honestly, I'm not sure which dry food is still out there that is super high quality with so many companies merging, etc.

Have you tried Nature's Variety Instinct Ultimate Protein?  I saw in another thread that it was comparable to Orijen.  I've never fed Orijen, but my kitties do seem to enjoy Instinct Ultimate Protein.  It is available in both Chicken and Duck flavors.

I bought a sample bag of the Acana Grasslands (lamb, duck, goat, and fish) and he LOVED it. It's still lower in protein/higher in carbs than I'd prefer...

I don't like the NV Ultimate Protein because the second ingredient is flaxseed.

I also saw this brand while looking around one of my local stores.

Anyone use or heard of this brand before? My only issue is the tomato pomace. .

It's a little

Would suggest NV Ultimate Protein too. Our kittens are nuts for it, we use it as a treat in addition to their snacks between raw. They liked Orijen too.

2nd ingredient is Tapioca, 3rd is Ground Flaxseed.

Ingredients are listed in order of weight generally. UP has a fairly simplistic formula, with just one protein (an abundance of it) so it's not fair to compare it to formulas that lists out 6 or 7 different protein sources. For instance, in the latter scenario the first ingredient could be 12%, next 10% etc.

The only company I know that lists out dry food ingredient % by weight is Orijen, ironically enough.

M missmimz , would you have any ideas? I think you actually feed Orijen yourself to your old guy (if I remember correctly) but guessing you've done some pretty extensive research into this.

Orijen has other flavors including Regional Red. I add in RR sometimes when I feel my cats are bored. It is more expensive though because it's more red meat based. I mixed Orijen cat & kitten with Ziwipeak. My cats only eat it as a snack tho, so if you're feeding other foods too its unlikely they'll get bored with their kibble.
