A dear friend of mine is a hospice volunteer in the Oakland area of California.  One of the people she's working with will be passing soon and leaving a kitty who needs a home.  She has no one who can take her.

Here is my friend's description of Diana:
Diana needs a new home. Her person is dying. She's 8 years old, likes paper bags, and small cozy spaces. She's playful and healthy. She's had all her shots, she's micro-chipped and fixed.
She's an indoor cat and it's unknown if she's ever lived with other animals, but she's an only cat at this point.

We will check into no kill shelters if need be but of course it would bring her owner great peace if she knew her kitty has a good home to go to.  If anyone has any ideas for a good home for Diana, please let me know.

Perhaps, contact no kill shelters in the area and ask them to do a courtesy post?   Our rescue provides this service all the time.  A woman who adopted a pair of my fosters called with a similar situation with her sister-in-law's cats;  the bonded pair  were posted the end of last week and we got a "good" application today.   Hopefully the references check out  and interview goes well.

Betsy I do have ideas but am wondering this, sometimes when a cat lives their life with an older/elderly person, they tend to grow shy of strangers due to lack of company, and chaos, used to a quiet life.

As it is, she will mourn for her owner, but if she hasn't been socially active she might really get frightened/depressed.

I would suggest Silicon Valley Humane Society first, theyre cage free and have wonderful plexiglass rooms that are private and home-like for the cats.

She is also welcome to my HS in Vallejo, but we don't have spiffy rooms, HSSV comes to us for cats since we get plenty and they don't, and it's a privelage to us to see ours get the chance to go!

It's 35 mins from Oakland.

Thank you!

I don't know that she's with an elderly person.  I will try to get more information from my friend about her living conditions now.  I wish I could take her myself, we're not that far away.  But we're still trying to integrate the 13 year old orphan kitty with the rest of our tribe who we took in when our friend died.

If you are in the Castro Valley area, I was researching for another TCS person, and came across Peninsula Catworks.  On their page, under "Need to Rehome" is a link to fill out paperwork and list your cat for adoption.  They might be able to help.   http://peninsulacatworks.org

Thank you all for the suggestions.
I've passed them on to my friend who's doing the hospice outreach with Diana's owner.

Fortunately, Diana's owner is still alive.  We'll keep working on finding a home for her until the sad time comes that she must be rehomed.

Thank you for the update.  When the time comes, if you need to rehome her at some distance, I know of several reliable rescue transport organizations through FB.  I'll be glad to PM you with the URLs.  Just let me know!

Let me know if I can help in any way, Oakland is not far from me really at all, if I know what I can do to help out I am happy to.

I can also do a courtesy post through my rescue group on rescuegroups.org

My rescue's cats are posted here and it goes to adopt-a-pet, petfinders, all of the sites and gives excellent exposure.

She's a beauty, with those blue eyes she must be a Siamese mix, gorgeous girl.

Thank you very much.  I'll check back in with my friend and see how things are going.  The owner is still hanging in there so the kitty is still at home.  I'll see if they'd like a courtesy post.  Thanks again.
