Hello,

My 3-4 weeks old kitten has been peeing in her bed for a while but I never see her poop in her bed. I'm not exactly sure if she shouldn't be stimulated anymore or she still needs to be. I've been stimulating her in a litter box. I'm using oko cat litter. She does peed in there twice when she needed to pee like an emergency I guess. But other times, I have to stimulate her to pee. Poor little one, she hates being stimulated so I'm hoping she'd start peeing/pooping on her own so she won't need to be stimulated anymore. In her situation, should I stop stimulating her or keep it up? Please help :( Thank you very much !

Here are some pictures of her. She moves around a lot lol. She's a hyper one haha. It's hard to take pictures of her even after she eats !! These pictures were taken after her meal time :)

:)

Hello!  She is very sweet.  Where did you get her?  How long have you had her?  Has she pooped at all in that time?

It would also be helpful to know what you are feeding her, how much, and how often.  If she's not eating solids, she isn't ready for the litter box or going on her own.

She was abandoned without a mother so I adopted her. I've had her since April 5th. The vet said she's about 3 weeks old when I found her. Yes she does poop once every 2-4 days. I'm feeding her KMR. I feed her 4 times a day about 1-2 tbsps every time. I tried to feed her some wet food a few days ago but she wasn't interested. I also tried KMR in a little bowl, she started pawing in it, sniffing it, and sneezing them back out, but she wasn't really drinking it so I went back to bottle feeding her.

This is what she looks like when I adopted her.

Thank you for taking her in!

My first thought is that she isn't eating nearly enough. She should be fed every 3-4 hours, around the clock, and she should get 10-20ml each feeding, depending on how much she weighs. Do you know how much she weighs exactly?

She may not be producing enough poop because she's not taking enough in.

It's no problem at all. It wasn't exactly me who found her but someone else did and she contacted me. She brought the sweet little angel to me. Anyways, I was feeding her 3-4 hours after I got her for a while and I just recently started feeding her every 6 hours. Is it bad that she poops once every 2-4 days? Should I go back to feeding her every 3-4 hours? And I'm not exactly sure how much she weighs but she looks like she has a healthy weigh and she's one hyper furball! She's now able to run now. She seems to be sniffing stuff around now and she can jump down from my bed. My bed is a mattress on the floor so it's not high at all. It's about as high as the water bottle. Before she'd just walk straight and almost fall from it lol.  Anyways, I tried feeding her in the bowl like a week ago. Do you think I should try again?

I just tried to give her some dry kitten food mixed with warm water (I smashed it into a paste) and put some on her lips and she started eating it ! I'm not exactly sure how much to feed her so I just fed her about a tablespoon. She'd keep eating it though lol. Turned out I made more than a tablespoon and she tries to eat it when she sees it. Anyways, I'm so happy that she started eating her first food. It was so cute. She started chasing moving objects now too. I moved my hand around and she started chasing it lol.

this doesnt sounds as enough. 5ml in a tablespoon, x 4 is 20-max 40 ml.   She should get at least twice of that.

Its 8 ml kmr / oz a day...

Solid foods are more energhy tight, unless much watered down of course.

So its good to have a scale, and be sure she gains every day at least 10g. (at least 1/3 oz).   And continue to raise her food intake.

Re the seldom pooping. Be sure she has enough of fluids, and you may add some coldpressed olive oil, a couple of drops.

Thank you for your help ! :) But I'm a bit confused. Are you saying I have to feed her 40 ml of KMR milk a day or twice of that which is 80 ml a day? If it's 80 ml, then I do feed her that much in a day. I feed her 1-2 tbsps for 4 times a day and she gets about 5 1/2 tbsps a day. Since she started eating pasty dry food, should I decrease her milk intake? Also, how much pasty dry food should I give her a day?

Im talking of absolute minimum of 80 ml a day.  Maybe more, it  depends on her actual weigh.   I took a quick  and very conservative count, presuming she is 300g.  Which isnt much for a 4weeks baby.

But you have right too.  tbsps  I took as tea-spoons.  If its table spoons for soup it will be of course more, at least twice as for tea-spoons

Nay, dont decrease her milk intake if she  begins to eat solids.  She needs it.   :)

But theoretically its correct, when they begin to eat solids, they dont need as much milk.   To great relief to their mommas!

Dry and wet kitten food?   The total amouth is lesser than for just milk, its more energy-effective.  Really, its as much she wants, as long it itnst obviously too little...   Its difficult to overfeed a kitten, whom is both growing, and moving a lot.   Even if kittens of 4 weeks dont move very much, but it will increase and increase, if they have enough with food and energy, and dont need to conserve the meagre resources for just surviving.

Ah I see. I don't really have a kitchen weight scale at the moment but I'll order one now.

When I said pasty dry food, I meant I added small amount of warm water to the dry food and made it pasty so she can eat it. :)

So I feed her 80 ml of KMR milk and pasty dry food as much as she wants a day, correct? Just making sure :D

She is moving around a lot, she's a hyper little girl :)

You can probably borrow a scale from some neigbour.

If she is too big or movable for easy weighting, you can weigh her in a bowl or something, just yyou do regulate the scale against the bowl.

If she is moving almost hyper, its just good.  Kittens shall be this.  But them getting too little food is a danger, we do see it here now and then, esp if caretaker doenst take the weighting...

Experienced caretaker does see and feels, but a not so experienced does not always.

Great! In the meantime, please leave dry kitten good down for her all the time to nibble on. She should also get the meals of wet food or milk more often, every 4 hours or so. Can you get kitten wet food? You can make a mush with the kmr.

I make a mush with dry kitten food and warm water, is it okay? Also, should the kitten be out of her nest now? I mean can I let her roam around and stuff? She seems to not want to sleep when she's out of her box lol so I always put her in there after everything's done.

If you can get wet kitten food that is better. They really need the moisture and the calories. You will feed it in addition to the dry food, which you can leave out for grazing.

I think putting her back in the box for some sleep is fine, but she should be getting time outside the nest to wander and explore and play now. You, of course, need to make sure that anywhere she goes is kitten-proofed.

Okay, for dry, I bought natural balance kitten kibbles for her. For wet, I'm thinking of buying either fancy feast turkey kitten or natural balance canned kitten food. Any recommendations? :)

Thank you very much again ! :)

I have wet food that is for all life stages. Is it okay to feed that to the kitty with her kitty dry food available?

I have Fromm Four-Star Nutritional Chicken, Duck & Salmon Pate Canned Cat Food, Lotus Chicken & Vegetable Pate Grain-Free Canned Cat Food, and Fancy Feast Wet Cat Food, Classic, Poultry & Beef Feast Variety Pack. Fromm and Lotus said it's for all life stages but not sure about the Fancy Feast. Anyways, any of them okay for the kitty?

Yes, its easier to make good wet food than good dry food, so wet food is typically better than dry food.  And thus, its not the same need to find best possible food with wet as its with dry...

Almost any wet will be good enough.  Even Whiskas makes a decent wet food.   :)

Just be sure its no peculiar low fat version.

Also, there are versions of  organic inspired dry food, which are good as long as dry foods go. They also make corresponding wet food. How?  Its diluted in water...Ridicolous.

Half of contains in kibble isnt because its necessary to survive.  Its there to held the kibble together, to have something to build the kibble stones from.   But these ingredients arent at all necessary in wet cat food.  Grains are the most important example.
