One of my cats, Mimi, started vomiting up her food randomly. She used to eat Orijen. I started an elimination diet with single protein sources, and found that she can't hold down chicken or turkey. She does hold down Wild Calling canned duck, and raw beef (with beef liver and taurine). She has mild asthma, so I don't give her fish ingredients either. I recently gave her pork, which she's never had. She threw it up, so days later I tried canned pork once (Wild Calling dog, added taurine) just to see if she could handle it in a different form. She threw it up too, and didn't finish her meal. I'm down to only being able to give her beef and duck with an occasional mouse. I'm worried if I add eggshell to the beef for calcium, that she will throw it up because it's chicken. She can't have wings of course. The only calcium she gets is from the cans and occasional mouse. I don't want to cause an imbalance and I'm worried that she'll become intolerant of beef and duck. I can't order rabbit because I live with a very sensitive person who has a rabbit, and she will flip out on me. I tried - even the neighbors tried to give me their live rabbits before they move, and she freaked out. Can I have some advice? I want her proteins rotated better. The vets here believe in Science Diet and Royal Canin, so I don't ask them about nutrition. Mimi appears healthy and happy otherwise.

Have you tried the Wild Calling canned buffalo and canned rabbit and canned alligator? Would the sensitive person still flip out over canned rabbit? There are more novel protein canned foods suggested here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/306947/your-favorite-brands-of-novel-protein-canned-cat-food

Hare-Today.com sells a variety of different meats for raw pet food: quail, llama, pheasant, bison, goat, etc. You can try some of those meats for the raw portion of your cat's diet.

There are alternatives to using eggshell in a raw diet. Here are threads:

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/263426/...hydroxyapatite-to-balance-meat-or-meat-organs

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/316550/alternate-calcium-sources

Sometimes cats who have a sensitivity or allergy to chicken can handle eggshell and eggs just fine. You just have to give it a try for a few days to see if there is a reaction or not.

Non-chicken raw bones maybe an option, Hare-Today sells bones if you can't find any in the local supermarkets and butcher shops.

I've tried all of the Wild Calling cans, including those mentioned. I was so excited to find them, and she did okay for a little while. Then she started throwing them up too, except for the duck. I noticed those other flavors contain "liver." I figure since they don't specify what kind of liver, it must contain chicken or turkey, maybe even pork. Luckily though, the sensitive person seemed ok with the rabbit cans, if only Mimi would have continued to hold them down. I've heard many good things about Hare-Today and really want to order from them, but I'm being met with resistance due to costs. I'll win this battle though, in time, I am sure. I fought the same battle to give her the foods she's currently on. Thanks for your reply! I'll read that link now for calcium.

You can try contacting Wild Calling to see exactly what animal the liver comes from. It's annoying that pet food companies often don't specify exactly what animal the ingredient came from.

BTW, you can sign up on the Wild Calling web site to get coupons

Have you tried the Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredients canned food? They have rabbit, duck, lamb, and pork that you could try. Definitley check out the first link to the tread about novel proteins for other non-chicken and non-turkey foods you can try

Here are other possible novel proteins you can try:

Also try these threads on limited ingredient diets:

Sometimes independent pet stores sell chubs of raw met for pet food use. Most of these do need supplemention added so it's a complete meal for a cat or dog. You can check your local stores. Primal and Bravo are two brands. I can actually get Hare-Today chubs at alocal pet store.

Personally I feel that you should go ahead and feed your cat whatever food you want. The other person (a roommate?) may not like what you feed but she can't control how you care for your cat.

One other canned food idea: Hound and Gatos lamb, which our cats love. It just has lamb plus duck liver. H&G foods seem to be love or hate foods but maybe you'll be lucky? http://houndgatos.com/pheasant-catfood.aspx (I don't know why the link says pheasant but leads to lamb!)

What about Ziwipeak rabbit and lamb? Or venison? They also have beef. My cats love ZP. It's quite expensive, all my cats do well on it.
