My 2 1/2 yr old cat Meeko is a very fiesty, energetic kitty. He is a mostly indoor cat, we do let him out back often to get fresh air under our supervision and its usually for no longer than 10-20 mins. Yesterday morning he was being his normal self, then an hour later he completely changed. He seemed to be out of it. Almost drunk like. Was wobbly when he walked, doesn't have much energy and his eyes seemed different to me. We took him to the vet immediately and nothing obvious was found. The vet asked if he had gotten into anything. We racked our brains trying to think of any bad things that could have harmed him but came up short. The only thing I could think of, was a few days ago my boyfriend sprayed the back yard with bug repellent. And Meeko does like to eat grass. The vet didn't seemed too worried about it since over the counter bug repellent isn't strong enough to cause harm to pets. But she still kept it was a possible scenario. She suggested taking him home and keeping a close eye on him and if he seemed to be getting worst to bring him back in. Well last night while I was at work, I got updates from my boyfriend that Meeko seemed to be getting better, he was a little more active, eating, used the bathroom and was meowing to go outside like he normally does. Good news to me.
Now this morning he seems to be back to acting weird again. Just laying there staring off into space, wobbly when moving, no energy. Not his normal self.
I have no idea what could be wrong with him and its heartbreaking to see him this way, when like I said, he is normally a fiesty, playful kitty with lots of energy.
He is a young kitty still, so to see him just lay there, fall in and out of sleep, not moving much, and when he does its off balanced.
Does any one have any clue what could be wrong with him? I'm extremely worried...nothing can happen to my baby boy, i couldn't handle it. If anyone has experienced this please give me your input. I'm hopping he snaps out of it but the unknown is killing me.

Sounds to me like the bug spray actually could be a factor. Some of the cheap flea spot treatments they sell in the store have killed cats. Did he go back out again and act strange (again) after that? Also, it is a possibility it could be his food.

No we haven't let him outside since we saw him acting strange yesterday morning, and the vet advised us to keep him indoors.
His food we've kept the same for the past two years. He had an incident when he was kitten and had horrible diarrhoea, couldn't figure out why then eventually switch his food to gluten free/grain free and he hasnt had a problem since. Well since now. This seems different though. Like I said, its almost drunk like. Can't stand straight, kind of staggers when he walks. If it is the bug repellent the vet did say that it would take a couple days til he is back to normal. My fear is that its something worst. Google doesn't calm those fears either, I've read everything from cats having seizures, to it being something neurologically wrong..etc.

That's good that he hasn't gone back out and hopefully his food is fine. Exposure to the poisons in bug sprays can cause neurological symptoms. I'm surprised the vet didn't seem to think it was a big deal. At the least, I would call at least one other vet. I have a vet in my area who has extended hours, so if you feel the need to take him in again, you could see if you have any like that nearby to avoid emergency fees. You could also check out the ASPCA's animal poison control. It seems they have an app or you can call, but the call might cost some money. I hope he feels better soon
