Helloo, I've been browsing the forums ever since I got my kitten Reggie 6 weeks ago but have not posted until today so hellooo :) and wish it wasn't due to a sick kitty (sorry if this is in the wrong forum - I was undecided between Cat Health and Cat Nutrition).

Some quick background info.. when we first got Reggie, he was ridden in fleas, which we didn't realise until a few days in - the poor kitten was absolutely crawling in them and after 6 hours of bathing and going at the flea comb, we managed to him and the room (hopefully) flea-free! Couple days after he had so much energy and was like a different little fluffball!

Being first-time kitty owners, we went and got him Royal Canin kitten 36 dry food (actually think it's the normal kitten food and having looked online it might only be for 4 months up but it wasn't clear when we bought it or even on the packaging!) and Whiskas kitten wet food. I'm away at my family's while my other half is with Reggie at the moment and he rang me last night saying he had vomited some wet stuff in the litter box last night. He's now informed me that he was sick again by our bedroom door after we spoke on the phone.. Obviously freaking out last night, realised this could be due to the poor-quality food we had been giving him.. now I feel ridiculously guilty especially as I can't be there!

I was up all night researching the best food for Reggie and finally decided on Nature's Menu kitten food due to numerous factors i.e. quality, meat content, availability in the UK and price. However, this is not due to arrive until Tuesday/Wednesday. Will he be OK on just the Royal Canin kitten dry food until then?

I am also going to purchase Applaws kitten dry food as I am able to get that here by tomorrow via Amazon Prime and have heard good reviews about that. Have read online this might not be a complete food but on the product description it says 'The perfect complete pet food for cats'. Although it is quite dear but will purchase a small 400g bag to test it out as I'm desperate to get Reggie off the other crap ASAP.

Will he be OK on just dry food for possibly 4/5 days? I've been adamant to keep him on both dry and wet food...

Is it likely that he could be vomiting due to other factors? Or is the occasional sick normal for kittens?

We were a bit wary of his smelly poos, but didn't realise this was actually an indication of poor diet until I had started looking it up last night!! Ahh I feel so bad for my little furry but hopefully I can get him on the right track now..

Sorry proper paranoid first time kitty-momma right here!

Sorry forgot to mention: he's an indoor kitten, but has been outside supervised a couple of times. He has received both sets of vaccinations.

Also something that I was a bit worried about, the vet mentioned his testicles had not dropped yet... he's 17 weeks old tomorrow - is this normal?

last time i looked the dry food was complete but the wet food is a treat.

There is nothing wrong with any of the food you mention.

has he been wormed ? Maybe take him to the vet

vomiting isnt great and kittens can become dehydrated.

I agree with the above. The dry food is complete - the wet one of Applaws is not.

Has your kitten been to see a vet yet?  Has he been dewormed?

One other thing which occurs to me is he might have an allergy to the protein being fed.  Chicken is one of the top kinds which some cats have difficulties with.

Also, has he been neutered yet?  They can be once they reach 2 pounds - waiting for months may only lead to him becoming more mature and starting to spray in the house; something you do not want to deal with. Let alone, he'll be attempting to escape to find a mate which will also be difficult to control.  The vet can advise about the undescended testicle at that time.  I don't think it's unusual but could be a bit complicated since it can continue to produce hormones once neutered if not removed.

Thanks for the replies :) He's was wormed a few days ago, and about 5/6 weeks before that using spot-on treatment called Endectrid via the healthy pets club.

He took a liking to the Applaws straight away last night and gobbled lots up today. He hasn't been sick again as of yet so we haven't taken him to the vets. He has seemed normal and playing lots like his usual self.

The Royal Canin doesn't appear to have chicken per se in the ingredients, more Dehydrated poultry meat... We only gave him a little of this this morning but mostly Applaws, which does appear to be mainly chicken. I will have to keep an eye on him in case he does have rouble with it!

He's not been neutered yet, the vets have booked him in for a pre-neuter examination at 5 months old (3 weeks time). We definitely want to get him done before he starts spraying the house!! But they aren't able to neuter him until his testicles have dropped - am worried that they won't and he'll develop all these behaviours in the meantime!

His testicles may not drop. If so, it becomes a slightly more complicated surgery where they have to open him up a bit more. Still perfectly doable.
