Hello everyone.

Just a little curious on my little furball's sudden change of preferences. Normally back in the day, I've seen her drinking water with her feline companion. But her little friend passed on over a week ago due to Acute Kidney Disease - which devastated all of us.

So now since her passing, I notice the surviving one doesnt drink as much as she used to even though back then they always fight the water pot.

However, she prefers wetfood which is pretty much 95% of her daily food intake. 5% is the occassional dry food I left out because she likes it as a treat. She's eating fine, hyper and at a very healthy weight.

I'm curious whether the wetfood is sufficient enough for her water intake? I've been a bit paranoid aswell since lately where we are, the climate is scorching hot and dry as hell plus its been smoggy too because of the forest fires.

Shes definitely not dehydrated. But I force syringed her water because I was paranoid.

Please, any input would help.

Thanks in advance.

So sorry for your loss. It sounds like drinking from the water bowl was almost a game she played with the other cat. She might return to it after a while, or she might not. Many cats are not very good drinkers. Wet food has a lot of moisture and probably does a pretty good job of keeping most cats hydrated, but you can always add some water to their wet food and mix it around a bit just to be sure, as long as the cat doesn't mind the soupy texture.

You can also try a pet fountain if you want. Cats tend to prefer drinking moving water because it seems fresher, and that might be fun for your little girl.

Yeah I tried adding water to her wetfood and such, she hated it so much and refused to eat after.

A friend of mine had an extra unusued water fountain. She didnt like it either.

She seems ok, I mean I can tell. I gave her some canned cat food that comes with its own broth. Is that enough?

If you're feeding her 95% wet food, I think your cat will be fine. Just like you, we feed our cat mostly wet food and a very small amount of kibble as a treat. We do add a few tablespoons of water to her food, and she loves the broth... but then again, the little piggy loves eating everything. We always leave fresh water out, but she NEVER drinks from it. I found that Weruva's Paw Lickin Chicken had a lot of "gravy" (aka water). That used to be part of her rotation, but it's just too low in calories.

In any case, a 95% wet food diet with no additional water until she goes back to the water fountain should be fine.

I'm sorry for your loss, pets are family too. I switched Rayna & Rhett to a wet food diet a few months ago and noticed they weren't drinking much. Recently its been much warmer and they've been drinking more. Good luck.

I also add a little water to their food, just to be sure they're getting enough. I also have a water bowl in every room to encourage them to drink more. It eases my mind to know it's always available and they never have to look for it. I'm sure you're kitty is getting enough, I'm just a paranoid cat mom.

Indeed they are. It hit us very hard when we lost her. And whats worse she was with our vet at the time. But our vet did everything he could and it hit him hard too since he's been her attending doctor since we adopted her last year.

Fruff seems to be doing well. I guess she likes all the attention me and my husband gave her.

Shes been eating fine too.

I'm a veerrrry paranoid mom too. She seems okay. Shes hyper, running around. I gave her some poly-aid the other day (big mistake) she ended up running around at 90mph. Shes eating primarily wetfood too.

Sorry havent check the forums lately.

Poly-aid is a powdered supplement that has vitamins, carbs and other nutrients where its necessary for sick cats to recuperate - especially when they havent eaten for more than 24 hours.

Hi
How is your kitty doing?
Omg didnt know there was a reply. My little furball is doing so much better now. We adopted the cat that passed on's twin sister. Theyve been inseperable since we got her.

Yay. Happy to hear. Sounds like they are both very happy.
Indeed! It was perfect timing as the twin was severely matted as the owner got busy to take care of her. Hwr other cats doesnt seem to like the twin as much either. When she came, it only took a couple of days before they became inseperable. Theyre both really happy with each other now
