My neighbours cat had a litter of kittens 2 months ago, and today I took two of them home. We live 60 meters apart on the same piece of land

I have a very good relationship with the kittens mother 'Indy' and she usually visits me on a daily basis.

When she came by today, she of course saw her two kittens inside...I let her in, which instantly made them more comfortable in the house.

'Indy', goes away for long periods of time, then comes back to sit, groom, and be with her kittens, she still has three more remaining at the neighbours house,

so is obviously now nurturing in two homes.

She passed by the evening, in order, to what seemed like, to collect them and take them home.

I am not sure that this is a good scenario for integrating the kittens into my home, and for her to be able to let go of them, and I see that the situation is obviously quite confusing for the mother.

For now, I let her in, and when she is ready, she can go out, but without them.

Other than shutting all the blinds, this situation was not avoidable.

I am curious if anyone has any tips, or experience with a similar scenario, and can maybe give me some tips on how to make this easier for the mother, and kittens .

I'd be grateful

Best

As long as she knows she cannot take them outside, there should be no problem with her visiting.  In fact, it is probably a comfort to her to know her kittens were not lost but are just in another safe place with another safe human.  While she will probably want to take them home with her, she will probably not be distressed.  When I have fostered mama cats with kittens in the past, I've always taken the whole group with me when doing adoptions.  That way, the mother cat doesn't spend hours calling and looking for them when I get home with less kittens than we started out with.

Hey There, thank you for the message, the mother is back again crying at the window. I have decided to just go to sleep, leave her out there, as she's three more at home also, and I don't want to make this more stressful, having her in and out trying to take them home...feels really mean..but what to do?

Aw, this is hard. I'm sure she'll adjust eventually.

Is there any way you can encourage your neighbor to spay her? Otherwise she'll just have litter after litter, poor thing.

In time, she will understand that her two kittens live with you. She'll visit and stop crying. Your other choice is to return them for 2-4 more weeks. Kittens do best when left with mom for that long.
