I loved the old Cat Fancy magazine. I thought it was neat to see pictures and read general info about specific breeds. The magazine had good general info on how to care for all cats, common health issues, grooming tips, etc. I have not read the new version of the magazine.

So the schedule switching is not going great. Somebody puked all over the couch and someone peed on the floor. GAH! Its a shame workplaces don't understand that cats need time to adjust to a schedule.

It really is.
I hope your babies adjust to the new scheduling soon...assuming that adjusting is not immediately followed by another change. All I can say is, good luck.

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
Pumpkin face is being stubborn and laying under my truck. She won't come in until 11. I almost got her to come in but Honeybee the trouble maker chased her.

Got to move up Floeys appointment with the vet. I don't like how she is breathing faster. I cringe because they don't have ultrasound and I will need to take her to their sister clinic but even if they find the heart issue treatable this cat does not tolerate meds at all. So for now probably get xray done and go from there. She's got pre heart disease. I can't remember what exactly is going on but they told me that they can't medicate her until she goes into heart failure. Talk about scary.

I still think its the humidity. She's eating ok and walking around outside chewing grass. She's not doing anything different I just noticed her breathing is faster. I really can't wait until someone invents a home ultrasound machine so we can better solve complex health problems. So if I could figure out how to accomplish this then that would solve lots of problems.

Honeybee is bugging me wanting treats. I guess she isn't mad at me anymore for putting the harness on her.

I just got home from Colorado, and am I happy to be home. We crossed the Continental Divide four times, no joke. One crossing was at 12,000 feet. I got sick when we arrived with altitude sickness and almost puked in the car. That was bad news. As soon as I can download my phone and camera, I'll post some pics.

I came home to a VERY happy kitty. He was boarding at the vet's. They called me during the trip to say that his fecal exam came back positive for giardia, so now he's on meds and I'm going to have to wash everything he sleeps on. I disinfected his litter pan before I picked him up. I'm sure it came from those mice he's been eating. He's an excellent mouser.

First thing he did was to check and see if his litter pan was still there. Then he was all over me wanting scratches behind his ears. He couldn't lean in hard enough. When greetings were all done, he flopped on the floor in the kitchen and purred and purred. I've never seen him purr like that. He was so excited about every familiar thing I picked up.

I missed him terribly, and it's good to know he missed me, too.

Yesterday the Salt water taffy was made.  I helped here and there.  Kim made 4 flavors.  Peppermint, mint, lemon and banana. I was wrapping and helping get it off her hands.  It was getting late so I colored, flavored and pulled the lemon while she did the banana.  Kim is 5'10" and has long thin fingers.  I am 5'4" and have short stubby fingers.  My whole palm as well as my fingers were covered with blue taffy.  It was so sticky.  Kim was able to just use her fingers.Today I ate one of the lemon pieces.  Not bad, tasted like lemon meringue.

Once again dreading my trip to Chicago.  KIA sister has taken off the first week I'm there and says 'We can see each other every day!" and "I'll leave some bone broth and fermented stuff at Pat's for you"  I keep telling her I'll never eat the stuff and don't need the 20 minute lecture on how to make it.   I've been watching Snapped quite a bit and all I can say is beware. . . .   I'm sure I'll have no trouble finding someone to help me hide the body.

@DreamerRose   What a terrific home coming.  Did the mice play while the cat was away?

@foxxycat I'm confused.  If the Bee kitty is already an indoor/outdoor cat, why are you trying to harness train her?

We'll see how long it is. My husband is helping a guy who hurt himself at work. A part of the machine came off and ripped open his dominant hand. He is not supposed to use it at all for four weeks, so since my husband is an apprentice, they're taking the opportunity to train him on this machine while the main guy can only give directions. It is supposed to be about four weeks, but we'll see. I'm thinking an injury that breaks muscle like this one might take the other guy more than four weeks to recover from.

@Handsome Kitty   Time will tell about the mice. It's been Mouse Central here for many years, so I guess I will have to have him tested for giardia every six months. A week is plenty enough time for an army to come in and set up housekeeping.

Where in Chicago are you going? I live in the western suburbs, and so does @catlover73. @Donutte  is north of Chicago.

That's adorable. I especially love her eyes in that picture. The camera really captured the way that cat's eyes really look.

Actually, his eyes are more of a bright yellow, but look more green in some pictures for some reason.

I swear he actually poses for the camera though. He is the only cat I've ever had that likes to have his picture taken!

@DreamerRose I will be in Spring Grove near the Chain of Lakes.  I am tentatively going to Naperville on the 10th.  I used to live there (128 N Washington) and a friend wants to go to Potter's.  I am also venturing to Streamwood for a get together at another sister's house.  My Dad is in Morton Grove so may go there one day and I have a brother who still lives within City limits near the Harlem Av el stop.  Harlem and Toughy?

I really liked living in Naperville.  We used to carry our kayaks and paddle the Mighty DuPage in downtown.  I could walk to the train for work and there were buses to the Fox Lake Mall.  It was far from my family, everyone one was in the city at that point.  Most were city workers.

I am in central time but still awake. I am at a baseball game that had an 1 1/2 rain delay and has now gone extra innings. I am so glad I planned ahead and took tomorrow off of work.

Please, let me know how it works out. (I love the pic, by the way.)

If she's as KIA with everyone else as she is with you, I'm sure you'll be turning away volunteers.
Good luck dealing with your sister!

I'm glad your cat was happy to see you.
There's nothing quite like them running up to you and giving you affection after a long, hard trip. (I hope you're feeling better.) Welcome home!

Well, work was interesting tonight. For the first time, since I started the job, I had customers talking about something I understand--fishing. (We're right across the street from a fiberglass plant and on the way to the peach orchards. While I love buying fresh peaches--I have to say that I don't understand a lot of the terms the growers, harvesters, and shippers use. As for the plant...don't know a lot. I just nod and smile and people are happy to have been able to vent since I never  get impatient with a customer--not even when there's a line out the door and the customer is paying in change.
) Apparently catfish season just  started--though I didn't know different types of fish had seasons (I said I knew  about fishing, not that I was an expert) and today I must have a run of at least twenty customers about two or three determined to get the best fishing spots before dawn.

One of the thing's I've noticed that my boss does is the better I get at my job, the more duties I have. (I think she's been easing me in to all the things that need done during my main shift so that I'm not overwhelmed. It's really nice of her, and a great way to train a new employee.) I was shocked at how much better I've gotten at my job; I had new paperwork that had to be filled out during my shift, three  different cooler doors to restock, plus  all the regular shift duties--and I finished early!
 It boggles my mind...

Okay, I have two questions for everyone who actually read through all of that: 1) How do you treat hotspot on a cat? I know that on a dog you put pepper spray over the area, to keep the dog from licking it, but that can't be done to a cat for obvious reasons. So--since I strongly suspect Rose is developing a hotspot, how do I stop her from licking it?

2 is a little bit complicated and has to do with an argument RB and I had. One of the things I've been doing (since before I started my job I was trying to cut caffeine from my diet completely) is only  ingesting caffeinated beverages during work. As soon  as I get home--it stops. I've also cut my sugar intake--again, except for when I'm at work. (I can't drink too much caffeine in an hour or I get sick, so sometimes I need the extra sugar that I get from candy at work. Again, something that stops as soon as I get home.) This has a tendency to make me headachy and irritable on my days off, and RB says that I'm actually doing more  damage to my body by doing this than if I was just ingesting everything all the time. What do you think?

PS: thanks for all the help with the mat issue. I finally  got AWM to see my point.

Because I want to take her for walks around the neighborhood. I want to be able to have total control over her incase a dog scares her-so I can easily lift her and keep her from running away. She has a bad habit of going into people's yards. I want to take her around the other side of the neighborhood so if someone sees me walking her then they know she is owned. I hope this makes sense. I want to walk her on the beach etc but needs to be harnessed.

That sounds painful!
 And, speaking as someone who tried  to go into the medical profession (how was I supposed to know I needed a reliable sense of smell when I started?), it depends on how  the hand was cut. If the cuts were with the muscular striations, four weeks is a pretty good estimate. Against  the muscular striations, however...four weeks might be a little short on time. (The difference in healing ability between the two types of cuts is enormous. If you don't believe me, the next time you're cutting chicken breasts try cutting with the grain of the meat--it's a lot  easier.) He might be out as long as ten weeks;
My guess from the atmosphere of the machine shop is that they probably gave him a high and low estimate (so something like 4-6 weeks) and he gave his boss the lowest amount of time. It seems like everyone there is trying to get back to work as soon as they can. The guy literally went to the emergency room the one day and came back the next day for work. The guys don't want to come off as not being tough. They have a first aid kit on the premises but it has a meme sign on it that basically says something along the lines of band aids being for little girls (actual language being harsher than that). The usual solution for cuts is the wrap them in shop rags and duct tape... more manly (and less sanitary) I guess.
