Dang we were almost neighbors if I hadn't fled the humidity and mosquitoes decades ago. When I was a child they still ran the fogger trucks up and down the roads. You could hear parents screaming for the kids got get inside. Ah those were the days...

Unfortunately, I don't go to fireworks shows anymore. The smoke from them really makes my breathing bad and I feel sick for days afterwards if I do go. Its okay since I don't like loud sounds anyhow. I'm starting to hear booms from our neighbors now.

We don't live here. We live much further south in Greenwood, IN. My parents have friends that have a lake house here so my family has been coming here on the 4th of july every year since before I was born. We usually have a huge party with a bunch of people from around the lake.

I grew up in Tippecanoe County.  Loved going to Turkey Run and Shades State parks on the holiday weekends.

I've never been to shades state park, but I do love going to Turkey Run! I've only been there a couple times with girl scouts but I remember enjoying my time there.

Indiana has so many beautiful state parks. I loved the suspension bridge at Turkey Run as a child. I probably still would. Of all the places I've lived that state has some of the most beautiful and well maintained state parks. My first time was likely with a Girl Scout troop. We had camp Sycamore Valley for summer Girl Scout Camp. I seen by the website they have torn down the old lodge.

Fireworks are really going crazy now. Angua was cuddling with me for comfort. Now she is cuddling with Carrot, so hopefully they'll both be good with that for the evening.

I heard some fireworks last night. They may have been in a neighboring town. Tonight not a pop , fizzle or whizzle to be heard.  I'm glad your kitties find a way to deal with the fireworks. It's almost eerie considering the number of firework tents in town.

We had some go off the next street over. all the cats popped their heads up when it boomed but then was fine. All the towns have their fireworks tonight which I thik is dumb because we all go back to work tomorrow. I would think sunday night is more convenient for everyone then on Monday just do the parade etc.

We took a ride to Moultonborough and the traffic wasn't too bad. The books at the library were not that good but it was an interesting ride. We then stopped at a diner to get subs. then mosey back home. We went by the lake beach we went to last week and it was so packed full people were parking in the street and I am sure it was packed. There are a line of trees to hide you from seeing the beach but I am sure it was full. We went by Weirs beach and it was busy but not as crowded as the other beach.

It was very windy out yesterday so it was perfect. I sat on my deck messing around on my phone with Facebook for an hour then started watering everything and pulling weeds. Have more rogue petunias blooming everywhere. I hope in a few years that after I spread the seeds from them that they will bloom on their own. they are self seeding and germinate with no soil over so I just sprinkle them all over the lawn and beds and every year I see new ones popping up. I am amazed how easy it is to get them going.

Donutte, I am sorry about your neighbor, how very sad to not be able to fix it and on a holiday weekend. I am sending you hugs.

There were some pretty loud fireworks last night here. I saw the reflection off the windows of the next building over so I guess someone was setting the fireworks off in the parking lot of BJs. There isn't anything else in that area where fireworks could be set off and be as loud as they were. The cats aren't fazed by fireworks. Thunder and lightening, however, sends them skittering around.

Does anyone have plans to celebrate the holiday? My family has never really celebrated the holiday (or any holiday for that matter). When I was younger we'd do the usual backyard barbecue f the weather was nice, maybe invite some elderly relatives and some older neighbors (my siblings and I would always be the only kids and it was never any fun being around old people who frowned upon playing), but we haven't done that in at least 10 years. It was always a pain to do anyways and the menu was always the same and the food was always overly salty and othewise tasteless and burned to a crisp.

she has 3 dif threads asking for help-i answered on the second one. talking peanut also jumped in. thank you Kitten's mom for trying to get her help..

Just vacuumed the hallway and cat room. its hot out and moved the air purifier so the ac has its own plug. now have to wait for Jon to muscle it into the window-it will be running by noontime. Right now its not too bad. I blocked the windows from the hot sun. all cats are outside lounging in the shade on the deck. It is supposed to be 89 at 1ish so for now its managable. got to vacuum some more. I am cringing at how messy it is in here. I really need to do a better job. I blame it on the cats-thats my story and I am sticking to it!

My alarm went off today. I had fixed it so it wouldn't go off today, and even checked it and sure enough, Monday wasn't selected, and yet my alarm went off today. I was not a very happy camper! I eventually got back to sleep, woke back up a bit later than I really wanted, considering I need to be out of here no later than 10:30am to get to the cat shelter.

Weather here today is terrible. Also people are already lighting off more fireworks. They didn't stop until 1:30 am last night (which is against the law) and they started back up again this morning at 9am (also against the law).

It's a very dark gloomy day here as well.  So far there have only been a few cherry bombs going off nearby which is against the law here, too.  In our young and crazy days, my ex would set off a pretty impressive fireworks display. Until the deck caught fire.  Fortunately we had the hose ready so damage was minimal but we did rethink our fireworks strategy after that.

Last night was a ton of fireworks. I was so tired. I did sit outside to watch the ones from a neighboring town.

The neighborhood/beach was crazy with them. One of the neighbors had a day long part in addition to the block party down the street from them. These people had the music blasting.

I was so tired.. I did go out for about 45 minutes, and then I had enough of them. The beach fireworks went from 8:30 (yes, twilight) until at least midnight or later.

I heard there was a fire on the beach from some of them. Not the bonfire, but a real fire..

Fireworks are dangerous.

Right now I have the windows, door open. It is really nice in the apartment. It is quiet out there. They are all gearing up for a repeat round tonight.

Artie really surprised me, last night. I had the TV on louder than the normal volume; closed the blinds, and shut the drapes closed. He sat in the chair, napping. He looked up at me a couple of times, but only when I went outside. He did not move, or cry, or hide...strange. I do not think he was feeling well yesterday. After giving him his steroid, a compounded liquid, he vomited. He did not eat much after that...

About an hour ago, I came back from the gym. I just finished a protein shake, and some nuts. I did get a phone call while I was on the elliptical. I could not answer it. I am just waiting to fully charge my phone, and then I will return the call. It is long distance. I do not pay extra on my cell phone for long distance.

I took a ribeye steak out of the freezer last night. I was planning on having that with a salad, but I do not feel like cooking... not even a salad... weird...

Gotta jump in the shower now...and wash the gym clothes.

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/322290/baby-kittens-dying#post_4050050   If anyone can help. Two of the kitten's have already died and the owner is begging for some advice.
Talkingpeanut and StefanZ are there.  I know there are some other very knowledgeable  folks here.  This is breaking my heart,

We are having thunder right now.  YAY LAPTOP!  AND there are firecrackers going offf like mad.  Hekitty is under the bed.  She had her  head in my armpit for awhile, but with both, the bed seemed a better bet.  Poor baby.

So I get to the shelter today at 11, and apparently there was a bit confusion, as they don't usually have volunteers on the holidays (as they don't need to spruce up quite as much as they do when people are gonna be there), so everything was already cleaned. The person I'd asked was a member of the board and assumed people came in on holidays, but note to self, they don't. However, she had me socialize with the kitties while she was there. She was waiting for her friend with a dog to come by so they could see how the one cat would react with dogs (as there was a potential adopter with two dogs. That all went well!

ANYWAY, I got to go into a room they normally don't allow the volunteers to go because there's a new mama and her under-one-week-old babies in there. There's a smaller room in there with some older kittens that were just starving for attention she said - and she wasn't kidding! I spent a good chunk of time with those four. A black one, a tabby, and two torties. Their back teeth are coming in so my hands and arms look a bit like pin cushions (yes, I made sure to wipe down with alcohol afterwards!). I also have a few scratches from the little guys climbing and occasionally, falling and grabbing onto my arm for dear life  They were just so cute, had a couple of them just sitting on my foot at times (I had my legs crossed and they'd venture out onto "the ledge" that was my foot!). Sweet little babies. The tabby reminded me so much of Oscar in terms of the intense stares he'd give me, and how he'd beat up the others. Oscar used to beat up on Oliver back when they were babies too.

I was probably in there for about 45-50 minutes I'd guess. I came out and looked at the new mama. Didn't touch because I didn't want to pass anything to the babies, but I did look. She was nursing and actually got up to come say hi to me. What a sweetheart. Then she went back and the little fluff balls made their way back to the milk bar. They occasionally bit too hard because she'd suddenly meow and swat at them as if to say, "Hey, be gentle!"

And finally, I had to go say hello to my seniors. Couldn't leave without visiting them. They SO badly want to be loved, it breaks me heart. The one in the middle at the top of the cat tree, whom I refer to as the Queen Bee, REALLY wanted attention. I would try to show others attention, and she'd grab my hand with her paw to pet her again. Then I had two on the floor that were just rubbing all over my legs. I'd bend down to scrub their bellies and the Queen Bee would get quite upset! There was the little orange guy on the same ledge as the other day (he's the one that sniffled in my face last time), he's just such a little love bug. It was so hard to say goodbye to them!

Now I'm home, eating homemade waffles. I think I took too many!
