What I love about three day weekends is that I can do all of my cleaning on Sunday and then have another day to relax after that. It is wonderful.

Thanks guys. I'm actually kinda terrified, never done anything like this before. My nephew has his own business (although completely different - he has a t-shirt business) that has been very successful, so might tap into some of his knowledge. When George Takei re-posts an image of a t-shirt from your company, business tends to boom a bit more than you ever expected. It was before that actually, but that REALLY cranked things up. I doubt I'll get anything like that :lol3:

You're reminding me that I need to back-up all my images etc. I have not saved mine to the cloud because I am afraid they will all disappear, which is what happened to my contacts and notes when I first tried to connect to it.  Once I've got them backed up, I'm going to try the cloud again.   Anyway, good luck with the transfer.  I hope it all goes well!
I'm using the free version of Drop Box right now, and so far, so good.  My cloud architect son recommended it, Did  However, I'm going to buy another flashdrive and back everything up on there before I decommission C Rex.  Just in case.  Didn't get the transfer done, Suzanne came over and stayed for 3 hours.  I love her dearly, but I'm not as social as she is, and I value my alone time,  Still...small price for a good friendship.

I love George Takei.

Again. Texts and pictures to my phone mean the world to me when we're away. If you haven't thought of it already you need to have something that says you have permission to have a pet treated at their vet. A disclaimer saying that in the event they can't be reached you have permission to obtain emergency care and they will be financially responsible.

The care is the base of your business. Communication so the customer feels like , and you do, really cares for their pet. This is a business about warmth and feeling good about who is caring for kitty.

Totally agreed.(about Takei and the rest of it). All those things are great ideas for starting some kind of a business that involves pet sitting.

Fireworks have been going off all last week here. They are illegal but people buy them and set them off anyways in the local parks and empty parking lots. I used to be able to see the fireworks at the end of the Pops concert from where I live (11 miles away!) but can't see them now because an apartment building was built next door in the empty lot
I can still head out to the front of the building and see the fireworks the next town over does every year. It's done in a park a mile away so it's pretty loud and super bright.

I got a 4 day weekend this year
The company decided to give everyone this past Friday off in addition to the 4th of July. Normally I would work on extra days off and on holidays for the overtime pay but I recently moved to a new posiiton and the 4th of July weekend was alaready covered by other people.

I got to clean all of the cat bowls, the cat fountain, the bathtub, vaccumed, washed my car. I also planned out my honeymoon and worked on flowers for the wedding. And I still have all day tomorrow for more stuff.

I know what that's like.  There's been many a day where the only reason I venture out into the world is because I am out of cat food.

The first fireworks just went off here and it's not even dark yet.  Chula is pressed against me like velcro.   She does not like this time of year.

My cats don't like fireworks either. There still haven't been any around here so we may get lucky this year. Fingers crossed.

Wow, I'm so sad. My neighbor just called, she had to put her Boxer to sleep, unexpectedly (she had bloat, and couldn't afford the surgery that had no guarantee). I kept thinking how I had to go over and see her, she was getting old but didn't expect she'd be gone so soon. RIP Sabrina :( I watched you grow up from the small puppy you were when we moved in here when your mom would walk you in front of the house, and watched you grow into a beautiful big dog. You'd get SO excited when we came over, that you'd actually pee. You'd pin me down by the shoulders and then just lick my face to death.

2015 was a pretty sucky year, 2016 hasn't been so great either (as far as pets are concerned). The only saving grace for 2015 was the ones we adopted. My neighbor is SO sad right now, she's and her kids have been through so much loss this year. And now this. Dang.

I really should get up and be productive but the fireworks have started in earnest now and I don't want to dislodge Chula.   She looks up at every boom and then gives me this plaintive look.  "Make it go away, please."

EDIT to add - I just saw @Donutte  's post.  I'm really sorry about your neighbor's boxer.  I grew up with boxers and am just crazy about them.  They're wonderful dogs but they don't seem to have very long life spans.  That behavior with licking your face to death?  Typical boxer behavior.  I think it must be in the genes.  My mother used to get me up in the morning by opening the door to my room and letting our two boxers in.  They would jump on my bed and go after my face with those big slobbery tongues.  I never minded and it did work.  Anyway, all this is just to say that I know how special boxers are and I'm sorry for the sadness you are feeling right now.

Thanks margd margd , wow, that was just so unexpected. My one consolation is that she won't have to be bothered by the fireworks this year. They're gonna start tonight. She hated them so much. Poor girl, she really was just the biggest sweetheart. So sad that they are so short-lived. We've had smaller dogs for so long, that I've really forgotten about that with the bigger dogs.

When I visited my friend in California a couple years back, she was fostering a boxer for a family that fell onto hard times. Another sweetheart. This boxer slept with me every night I was there. Started with her sleeping on top of me, and the last night with her trying to get under the blanket with me.

I have work tomorrow morning (the store's open 24/7), but I'll be able to see the big firework show tomorrow night with AWM and RB. They're planning to get there early so that we can get good viewing spots--and see the sights. Usually a fair springs up opposite the firework station (which is roped off at least twenty yards in each direction for safety) and we might visit that. Don't know what AWM's going to do; she's allergic to mosquitoes and there isn't really a repellent that works for them around here.

@Donutte, I might have never had a boxer, but I have had dogs and it is a really sad thing when they're lost. I also know that it's a sad thing when people need to put their dogs down (my G-ma had to put down her dog of fourteen years, a Yorkshire terrier named Sissy). You and your neighbor have my sympathies.

Thank you. I feel so bad for my neighbor right now, she's in a pretty bad way right now. She couldn't even talk much past telling us she was gone and why. We've known her since we moved here - it was one of the things that made us feel a bit more comfortable after we moved, having another pet owner (and someone who obviously cared very much for their dog) living next door to us.

Raising my bottle of beer to you, Brina. Say hello to my babies for me. Love you.

We're having a lot of fireworks tonight. There is a town two towns over that had fireworks, and I swear it sounded like it was right outside my house. You could actually see it from my bedroom window. The pooches are with mom so not sure how they were, guessing Sugar was going crazy though. Pea-Pea was doing well, as was Maple, and then the end of the fireworks went off (when they set off everything left at once) and well, they lost it a bit. Poor Oscar and Oliver though were not happy at all. Poor Oscar was running around trying to find a place to hide and there was no good place.

On top of it, they had a rough day since my brother and sister-in-law were over, and the boys always hide when there is company. I still remember going into my bedroom earlier today and all three of my cats that had been hiding (Maple and the boys) suddenly showed their faces. Went back into hiding the moment I opened the door. The only one that was out and about was Pea-Pea while they were here.

The fireworks in another town went off shortly after that, but it must be further away as it's not nearly as loud.

View media item 359011I'm in Gypsum, CO, and we are trying to figure out which mountain to watch for the fireworks. Went to see the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens today in Vail. Such dear little flowers and plants. Here's a sample. The last pic is pussy toes.
Those are really beautiful. What a lovely garden space. I love to look at gardens like that.

I'm not going anywhere to see fireworks for the 4Th. So many people people drink and drink on this holiday. I'll stay in where it's safe.

I made hot Italian sausage and peppers for dinner and had them rolled up in flour wrappers left over from Chinese carry out I had one night. An international meal..... lol

Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday.

I'm celebrating the actual holiday by volunteering at the cat shelter. Scooping litter boxes probably. Then when I come home, mom is gonna make home-made waffles. And then, watch some of the mounds of stuff that we've recorded over the last couple months.
