You're overestimating the intelligence of the executives at Microsoft.  They just had to pay a woman $10,000 after her business computer installed Windows 10 without her permission and slowed down to the point where it became unusable.  She tried to work with Microsoft to revert it to the version of Windows she had before, and they couldn't manage it, so she had to buy a new computer.  Microsoft decided to settle with her because it was cheaper than actually fighting her lawsuit.

Some of those nag messages that Windows puts out advising people to "upgrade" to Win 10 were actually set so that the "x" button that should close the window actually installed Win 10!  Microsoft has admitted that they did that deliberately, but still blames all problems that people have with it on the users, not themselves.  They have, however, at least announced that they won't do that any more, but I suspect that was because their lawyers told them to.

Margret
If you consider the number of updates that cause problems and you end up creating restore points to uninstall the bad update sent to you by Microsoft while they deny in a loud voice that was not the problem but then announce a fix or an update to the update a few days later the idea of installing a whole new operating system on a computer that is running just fine is not very appealing.

It is never their fault.

Cats are doing well. Leroy absolutely goes nuts for the Vital Essentials freeze dried minnows treats
Emma took awhile to try the treats but she eats them now. I also have the treats in rabbit which both cats like.

Work is fine although it bothers me that the lab head hired someone to be "ABC Technician" but what the person actually does has nothing to do with that job position
The job description says doing X work but the person doesn't do it. The person spends 100% of the time doing lab work and running studies, basically a "Scientific Associate" job position. I feel that the lab head falsely hired the person under that position just so he could have a person to work in the lab. Several other people in the lab are aware of this and have been talking about it. I'm not sure if this should be brought up to HR or the Office of Business Practices anonymously?

I heard about that "x" thing, that's why I use my task manager to close the dang stupid pop-up. I really hate though when I'm clicking on something and mid-click that stupid thing pops up. HATE IT!

Hey there! :wavey: That does sound kinda odd. So is the position he was hired for above or below the one he's actually doing? I'm gather above but hard to tell (if it was below, I'm guessing no one would care).

The position the person was hired for is below what the person is actually doing. It's like hiring someone to bag groceries at a supermarket but what the person actully does is a manager. The person was way over qualifed for the position to begin with (has a Master's degree) and concerns were expressed by people in the lab and by my supervisor but the lab head still went ahead and hired the person for the technician position. I guess he said that 30% of the person's time would be doing technician work to placate people but that has changed to doing 0% technician work and 100% lab only work. Honestly I feel the lab head hired the person only beause the person has experience with a specific lab procedure and because the person had connections with a person who was already in the lab. I don't know why the lab head couldn't have worked with HR to create another Associate position instead of him taking the technciian position from my supervisor to use.

I spoke to AWM and RB about it, and they recommend that you have a face-to-face with the new manager. AWM says that (after you get a signed petition from everyone who gardens in the plot) that you're willing to accept lots of nonvenomous snakes (since it would take a lot  of snakes to make the same dent as a single cat) instead. (She thinks the cats would come back really  quick after that.) RB says that perhaps he thought the cattery was an eyesore and you'll get further if you do two things: one, offer to make a more aesthetic cattery that fits in with whatever he thinks the "theme" of your garden is (I know you don't have one, but he probably sees one anyway) and point out that vermin attacking the plants ruin the aesthetic of the leaves. Don't know that either of these ideas will work, but that's what they suggest.

Thanks. I was able to get a little bit of sleep--though not enough to compensate. I just wish I knew what happened to those papers.

Some boarding kennels offer that sort of thing as a service, and there are "assisted care" sites (I used to work for one) where they have someone come in and do what the homeowner just can't do. It's used for people who have been in accidents, are just getting older, or for any number of reasons. I don't know if there are any in your area, but here they run through the hospices (I don't know why).
This person had already come to one of our meetings and most people had not much use for him. So one of his underlings came to a most recent meeting and that's when he told us about the cats being gone and also of the person who had sort of overlooked the gardens being out of a job. Well, no big loss about him being gone as he was found sleeping on the job several times.

But his announcement of the cattery being gone caused several people telling him about the good job the cats had done about the rats, mice etc. These people were quite vocal about it. I'm sure several will write to our little paper about it, I know I will, and administration does not like those kind of letters because then the whole community will know about it, not just the gardeners

.

I will also attend the next board meeting and voice my opinion about that. Board meetings are rebroadcast 2 days later on our TV station and many people who can't make it to the board meetings watch that.

Yes, our community of some 18,000 units, all condos or co-ops, with usually 1  to 2 people per unit, has its own TV station with news only pertaining to our community.

This community  comprises 98% of the City of Laguna Woods, it is a gated community and all businesses are outside of the gates such as City Hall, grocery stores, gas stations,a mall, fire station, some medical offices, a medical center and some assisted living centers. It used to be part of the City of Laguna Hills but 12 years ago became a city of its own. Because it is a gated community only residents can use all the amenities and we have it all: pools with whirlpools (well attended by those with arthritic aches and pains), tennis courts, shuffle board courts, two golf courses, club houses with dances and various club activities, art center with workshops, over 200 clubs, a restaurant at the larger  golf course, a fitness center, a computer lab, and a performing arts center where there are live shows. So the gardens are just one of many things and the gardeners are a vociferous lot.

Tesla decided he was going to try to help me with the laundry. He is my little "helper" with just about every chore in the house.
I remember when Ra used to climb into the dryer. (He only liked to be in it while it was warm, so when he climbed in we'd just take a laundry break until the metal cooled and he climbed out again.) It was cute, but I had no access to a camera then to take a picture.

I've been staying in a lot more since I came down with Bell's Palsy two weeks ago. I've been to the ER, both of my doctors, my dentist, and will soon see a specialist. My sweetheart is taking me out for dinner tonight for the first time since this happened. It'll probably take me half an hour to eat.
Now that I've been catching up with my Catsite games, I discovered this contest! It will be fun to get to know our members better and see what they say as we try to win the prizes. I love to read and play Scrabble online so I'm not bored so far,.... and there's always house work.

Talk with you all soon!

Bell's Palsy - ooh, you have my sympathy.  My ex came down with that - it just appeared out of the blue and he was really miserable until it cleared up.  I hope you get better quickly.  Have a very good time tonight - you have certainly earned a treat.

I have the same Dryer! And your Tesla is ADORABLE!

We just got in from Yard saling. There was not that many today. There is a big one for charity and normally they haven't had their yardsale this year on the other holidays but today we decided to swing by and lo and behold they were set up. I got some more books to price for my booth and some had my stickers on them so I wont have to price those :) And found 2 more titles by Catherine Anderson. The weather has been fabulous. Its mid 70s and i  am heading outside to read in a bit. The cats are all outside but Honeybee is sitting here whining for treats.

We got lunch at a local burger joint Wild Willy's. Jon only ate onion rings and took his burger home for tonight. It will be cooler tonight so I will cook the rest of our lunches in the oven tonight. So glad to be home. The trafic was kind of weird. Lots of impatient people running red lights or cutting people off. This is why we never travel on holidays.

I hope you feel better soon Debbie.  One of my friend's went through this and is now doing a lot better.  She went to some sort of physical therapy.  Her illness came on suddenly out of nowhere too.

I am still here reading the threads. I am sorry for those who have been suffering recent illnesses. I hope things get better and people give support to help out with whatever is needed.

Honeybee came inside for a minute to chirp away.

I've known a few people with Bell's Palsy, including two teachers in high school that got it within a few weeks of each other, and a friend that was in the hospital as a result of it a few months back. That's pretty rough, Debbila.

Sitting here with a bottle of pills in my back, trying to put pressure on the nerve to help my migraine stop, even if temporarily. Can't seem to hit the right spot though. It's so hard to tell because the pain feels like it's emanating from higher up in my back, but it's actually a few inches lower. Still have to clean the litter box in my room and change the pee pads :(

@Donutte  and anyone else who has muscle pain - have you ever heard of the theracane?  I can't remember if I've posted about this wonderful thing before but it is a short cane with protrusions off it at various angles.  Each protrusion has a knob at the end.  The result is that you can always get to that hard to reach spot for a massage or pressure point work.  Here's a photo.

There are variations on the theme but this is the one I had.  Worked like a dream.  They're available at amazon.

Well...today;s big project is to use my flashdrive to move my music from the old media player to the new one.  Cross fingers for me.  Also have to start deleting stuff from C Rex that is already moved and safe.  I"m beginning to see an end to this.  If I knew the first thing about computers, this could all have been done in a day.  Special thanks to @Margret, who has been more than patient with explaining perfectly simple tasks to me over and over!

I definitely need to get that. Usually people say to use a tennis ball on it but I'm not sure where mine went (cats probably rolled them under something).

Maple came out from under my bed and had all these hard crusty spots in her fur, even on top of her head! I know sometimes I will nick the little bumps on her and those can ooze something, but this was n't like that at all. I can't even describe it properly. I have this little grooming tool that has blades on it to help with mats so that came in pretty handy. She even seemed to enjoy me working on her. Of course ended up with a lot of loose hair all over the place. I carefully brushed her afterwards before she decided she was done. She still has some crusty spots left on her but I got most of them.

You're reminding me that I need to back-up all my images etc. I have not saved mine to the cloud because I am afraid they will all disappear, which is what happened to my contacts and notes when I first tried to connect to it.  Once I've got them backed up, I'm going to try the cloud again.   Anyway, good luck with the transfer.  I hope it all goes well!

I'm reminded that I need to get a new memory card for my camera. My old one is almost used up, can can't bring myself to delete any of the pictures, even though I already have them on my computer. The idea of deleting anything with Lucky or Sara on it... I just can't.

Anyway, my brother came over and he, Mom and I went out to Baker's Square for an early dinner. Needless to say, I'm absolutely stuffed right now. Thankfully my headache is better. Not gone, but I'll take better over what it was.
