I had to give up watching TV because the interruptions of tornado warnings were continuous. Son texted from Colorado that one of the storm chasers on the Weather Channel was on 75th street - about two blocks from my house. Most of the activity is south of here. @catlover73  I saw that about Plainfield, and since Donutte has rain, you are right about us being between two systems. It's calm here in Naperville, light rain, no wind, no thunder. Will keep paws crossed.
I am keeping my paws crossed too.  I am on the North side of town near Rt. 59 & North Aurora Rd.  It seems like that happens a lot with being between systems out here.  The only thing that can be kind of scary during storms is when the wind gets going and I start hearing the tornado sirens for the Kane County area.  When I first moved out I here  I actually called the police non-emergency number to confirm our siren was not going off.

I haven't heard any sirens at all. We had about 10 minutes of rain, and that was it. I had to turn the TV off completely so I'm going to go read my book and go to bed. Much ado about nothing.

I have not heard any sirens here tonight either.  I have lived out here for 15 years now. When I called the police non-emergency to ask questions the person on the phone told me that ours would be a lot louder than what I was hearing if they went off.  Apparently one of the sirens is in a park near my house. I lived in Chicago before that and never heard tornado sirens before.

You can't miss the sirens out here. They may not be loud depending on where you live, but they are continuous, unlike police or fire sirens. I did hear on the Weather Channel before I turned it off that some debris fields were showing up on the radar, so I guess there is some damage to the south and west of here.

I am glad my hubby is off tomorrow so he drive me to and from work.  I was going to take a cab because I was concerned about how much rain we may get. I normally bike in but I did not want to risk getting covered in mud on my way to work from wet sidewalks. Hubby has also decided that he is going to take me to Starbucks for coffee in the morning.  He figured I may not get much sleep if we did start getting loud storms.  He is off tomorrow so he can go back to sleep while I am at work.  I am going to try to go to bed now.  Hubby will be up for a while and if anything happens he will wake me up if he needs to.

The very thought of tornadoes scares me to death. The damage that I see and the loss of life is just horrific. And knowing that tornadoes will happen every year like clockwork keeps me from ever living in "Tornado Alley". When I first thought about retiring and possibly moving to someplace else I looked all over the map, checked housing prices, temperatures (I did not want to live where it snows), that sort of thing. I thought perhaps St Louis would be worth checking out. That is until my daughter asked me to show her where on the map St. Louis was located and she said "no way, that's in the middle of Tornado Alley". So much for that. I decided to stay in California.

Yeah, yeah, we have earthquakes. Actually, we have them all the time, we just don't notice them, they are that small. Sometimes there is a tremor that you feel and are not sure that it is one, just a slight woozy feeling, like maybe you feel like you are going to be sick to your stomach that just lasts a few seconds.

There was a bigger one about a week ago that I slept right through although it apparently woke up a lot of people.

The "big" earthquakes like the one that collapsed the Santa Monica Freeway in places or the one that destroyed one of San Francisco's bridges happen only once in a big while. But tornadoes you can count on every year, no thank you. Too scary.

Yes, muscle burns calories even in your sleep.

I hate to recommend it in hot weather, but a hot shower (as hot as possible without scalding yourself) can help to get rid of the exhaustion toxins that cause muscle soreness when you're building muscles.  Of course, there's nothing to prevent you from following it up with a cold shower....
I do take showers as hot as I can stand them, and I soak my feet in Epsom salt water at the end of the day. (The worst part about the salt water is pulling my feet out of it--after soaking them in the salt water my feet feel exceptionally heavy.)

Well, I didn't sleep last night.  I stayed up late watching the shenanigans at the House of Representatives and then developed a whopping case of restless leg syndrome.  Got up and made some biscuits.  Stuffed myself.   Ignored Paul demanding a midnight bowl of canned food.   Tried dancing away restless leg syndrome.  Caught sight of self in mirror.  Went back to bed and crawled under covers.

I need to take a break from TCS for awhile. I'm turning off TCS email notifications so If anyone is trying to contact me using the @ thingy I won't see it and won't respond. Not sure if I can turn off PMs

Hope everything is okay and that you're back soon.  You'll be missed.

I don't know about turning off PMs but you could probably create a filter in your email program so the notifications by-pass your in box.

Hope you are ok. If you ever need to talk I am always available. I understand about taking a break. I saw your post about feline obestity-thank you for posting-I need to figure out how much to feed the cats. They all have colds or allergies. two of them are sneezing now and being picky about kibble. I put down canned and they lick and walk away. I hand fed my old cat and she was super happy. for some reason they get finicky on food when its hot. last night was cooler and thought they would eat. so this morning cracked open the tuna and everyone ate. Treats too except for floey. Floey doesn't like treats unless its freeze dried. even then it has to be moist. At least she is licking the water out of the food so I know she is hydrated. I will have to put the ac in tonight and see if it helps but they all sleep in the bedroom where its super toasty. If I put the ac in there they will go to the other end of the house. so not sure if they will sleep in the livingroom when no one is home. Cats. why do they always stay in the hottest room?

On a good note-honeybee came up onto of me last night, I moved her beside me to make biscuits in her red velvet blanket and somehow I rolled back on my back and woke up with a warm bundle on my stomach. She was purring away...my little sweetie..

I have two cats staring at me demanding breakfast is served early. They're so impatient in the morning. They like to sit outside the shower door and meow.

Hope everything is OK and you can come back soon. Foxy-honeybee sounds like a sweetie. There are fans all over the house the living room is by far the coolest room but Sam has to follow me upstairs every night where it's super hot. My chihuahua sleeps under the bed so the fan hits him and it's dark but Sam sleeps anywhere next to me than gets cranky if I pet him to much.

LTS3 - hope everything is ok, and see you when you get back

Last night's storms didn't really impact us so much (I don't think, haven't really looked outside much). I saw that a gas station in Mount Prospect had that canopy thing they all have blown over, that wasn't too far from me. And I think that's the one I used to drive past on the way to my old job at my current company (actually, it was still being built at the time). Anyway, LOTS of tornadoes southwest of here, mostly in unpopulated areas it sounded like, which was a good thing. I know there were a few reported near some populated areas but don't think they touched down anywhere.

And today is my Friday. Yesterday was a crap-day for me as far as work is concerned. Seriously, I thought my head was going to explode. I have a big problem with blatant lack of communication, and when it directly impacts me, I REALLY have issues with it. All I kept thinking yesterday was, "If it was me that dropped this ball, I'd be hearing about it." I was upset. I don't know why I was as upset as I was, but I was. And still am. If I didn't have so much stuff to do since I'm off tomorrow, I'd just call off.

I'm hanging out with a friend I haven't seen in a long time today. We might be going to Dave and Busters so I'm excited :) I love arcade games.

The storms missed us too. All of this talk on the weather channel about the huge storms headed our way- and then it all blew over us.

Glad everyone is ok as far as storms. It was chilly this morning. Little Honeybee only spent a few minutes outside. She came up to the kitchen window and meowed until I opened the window. she hopped in then got treats and meowed at the door=let her out and who was whining to come in a few minutes later? It was cold out there at 53 degrees. Usually Bee Kitty doesn't mind the cold. she goes in the rain snow or sleet she doesn't care. crazy cat. She then stole Pumpy's treats I had under the table for her. Dingbat cat.

margd margd I wasn't sore today, so that was a blessing. I rode a lawn mower for 3 hours today and that was all, but I think I'm going to be more sore from that, than from hoeing yesterday. It was really hard to turn that thing.

I know what you mean about apples straight from the tree. My son has apple, pear and cherry trees, and they are oh so scrumptious! His cherries should be ready in about 2 weeks. So I'll be making cherry bread, cherry cake, cherry burgers, eating cherries, and so much more. Yummy in my tummy!

So glad everyone made it through the stormy weather last night. It sure is scary when tornado producing storms are brewing. When I lived in Witcha Falls, Texas, we had one of the worst tornadoes. If I remember correctly, it was a EF 4. It was huge. A mile wide. It destroyed a lot of the town. Nearly took it off the map. I believe the year was 78 or 79. It was rainy but calm all day. Then just before it hit, the sun was shining and it was beautiful. Everyone thought the danger was past. About a half hour later the sirens went off and all hell broke loose. I'd never been so scared in my life.

Our neighborhood was left untouched, but a half mile away, nothing was standing. Every suburb was gone. Flattened like it never existed. And the worst thing that could happen to a 14 year old girl, happened. The mall was nearly destroyed!!!!

In neighborhoods, all you seen left standing were toilets. So if you are ever in a tornado, chain yourself to the toilet cause those suckers don't budge.

oh my goodness how scarry! the toilets didn't budge because they are bolted to the floor. So yeah you can chain yourself to the bowl but its porcelain and probably breaks easily. How very scary to go through this!

I am trying to do my walking at lunchtime but I am super lazy today. my gym is closed but I heard from the guy who messages me that they would be open at 10am today=that was super fast! I am curious to see what they got for new equipment. I rather go straight home but I need to do at least a half hour of something. I haven't done much moving around since Saturday and  I know I feel better when I keep moving.

a coworker came up to me in tears this morning. Another person my age offed themselves. This was a vet. Wow I was floored. This person was a real role model to my coworker. I feel so sad for the family. And I just wish we could end suicide. It is getting really scary lately. Either I see someone offed themselves from a person I know on facebook or people in person. I really wish the government would focus on mental health especially for our vets who have suffered in silence for years because we know they don't like calling attention to themselves. I am going to repeat myself again. If you are thinking these thoughts please reach out to someone. You are never trapped. There are tons of options and maybe it sucks to start over but I rather start over broke than be dead and make my family and coworkers/friends cry. I will focus on the sunshine to not think about those families affected by this.

I am really sorry to hear about another person losing their life this way.  A few years ago I read a horrifying statistic - suicide had surpassed war as the leading cause of death in the military.  Just thinking about what that says about the pain these vets feel makes my heart ache for them.

The county where I live has a really impressive program to deal with deeply depressed people.  They have an excellent hot line which includes an emergency crisis unit - two people who come to the home and talk to people in crisis the same day.  They may take the caller to the hospital or just give them information on additional benefits.  Those benefits include free at home therapy for several weeks to help talk the person back from the ledge and to put a treatment plan into effect.  Another benefit includes two or three free visits with a psychiatrist for medication evaluation.  Transportation to the psychiatrist's office is included free of charge.

I think if more municipalities had a program like this, a lot of lives could be saved.  However, first someone who is in the grip of a suicidal depression must feel able to call for help.  I really wish we could dispense with this mindset that depression is "all in the head" or a sign of weakness or a character flaw.  Getting past that, and the stigma attached to depression, is really the first step towards getting help.  The help has to be out there, though.  Unfortunately there are very few programs available like the one where I live.  At least, in the US, there is the national suicide prevention hotline - 1-800-SUICIDE.

@foxxycat   I'm so sorry this keeps hitting so close to your life.  It always hurts and is a terrible shock when people left behind hear of another person lost to suicide.
