It might not be a matter of recovering. Like I said I have been a night owl my whole life. So is my husband so when he's on shift it's really easy for me to fall into a comfortable daytime sleep pattern. It's 11.30 here and I feel like my brain is just now waking up.
Yes, it may just be that I have the night owl gene, too. I know what you mean about your brain just waking up at 11:30.  Mine does that as well.  Does your husband have to shift between day and night work?  I don't know how people manage that.  I'd be a wreck.

Well, its almost 2am here and Tesla is going crazy running around the house. Apparently everything in the house is fair game for running/jumping on, including my chest, since I am laying on the couch. I've probably woken my sister up a couple times due to the shrieks I let out because there was a crazy 13lb cat launching himself onto my chest from seemingly out of nowhere.

Edit: He just ran full speed into the french doors that separate our family room and our living room. I heard him hit the glass with a very loud THUD. I hope he's okay. He seems to be, as he's just carrying on with his crazy dash around the house.

I'm really sorry about the insomnia. I have stopped trying to sleep at night. It's so hot during the day it's been easier to get some meaningful sleep during the day than fighting to lay there waiting to turn into a zombie all night.  I have always been a night owl. Trying to adjust my sleep to what is considered normal has never really worked. I always choose a graveyard shift if it was available.
You're actually able to sleep in the heat?  I can't.  It's been so hot that I can't get to sleep until the middle of the night when it's finally cool enough to pull a blanket over myself.  Most annoying.

I've been a night owl ever since working the night shift in a supermarket when I was in college.  Decades (gasp!) later and my system still hasn't recovered.   My first full time job, I had to be at work at 8::00AM and it was utter torture.  I love the morning but my circadian clock says, nope.

The morning after we got married I told Roger that he had sleep apnea and needed to speak with his doctor about it.  He didn't believe me, which, it seems, is a fairly common reaction since people with sleep apnea don't normally wake up just because they aren't breathing.  So I spent the next thirty years or so staying awake at night, guarding his breathing and figuring out ways to make him start again every time he stopped.  I finally figured out a way to persuade him to go to a sleep clinic, but it's been very hard to change my sleep cycle back.  I had just (finally) succeeded, and now we don't have enough money to run the A.C. this summer and it's too hot to sleep until extremely late.

A couple of times a year for a week. Other than an occasional shift to help out they don't rotate shifts. My GF hub worked at a steel mill years ago and they rotated shifts. No surprise that's when most of the accidents occurred.

I know what you mean. I can't stand this heat. We have AC but I have 2 heated aquariums in my room (one 125 gal and one 10 gal) and believe it or not those heaters are very powerful. They make my room 5-10 degrees hotter than it is in the rest of the house. My room is also not insulated, so the heat outside seeps in. Its currently 87 degrees outside and 75 with the AC in the rest of the house, so that means its 80+ degrees in my room right now.

My husband was doctor resistant. It got pretty heated around here. We had to turn on the AC. His COPD and the smoke from forest fires plus pollen meant a higher electric bill or a massive ER bill somewhere down the line. His breathing has become a managed condition and we seldom have issues. He even makes and keeps his own doctor appointments now and takes his medication on time daily. He drove me crazy for years and I really feel for you. I know the stress of being a keeper.

It gets cold here at night and I usually end up hitting the switch on the electric blanket. There are acres of tall grass behind my house. When the morning dew falls and the slightest breeze you freeze.

I often use a rolled up wash cloth and wring it out well and put it on my neck. I used to have those scarfs full of the beads that soak up water I used outside. Works on the same principal. You put a cool cloth over an area of your body with high blood circulation.

So, I'm up. Why am I up? Because Ra was hungry--the dry food dishes were empty--and so he climbed into bed with me. He didn't even have to do  anything--he's like a fuzzy little heater, and it's hot. (We turn the AC off at night to save electricity.) So, here I am, trying to cool down enough to go back to sleep. Not working well.

Find the cloth garden gloves with the rubber/gum palms. Heavy duty. They are wonderful because you can dip them in cool water and it's refreshing and cooling and keeps your hands protected.
I did get some new work gloves with padded palms. As a bonus, they actually had a woman's size small, so they fit me perfect. I haven't seen any that you get wet to cool off though. That sounds interesting.
It really is the perfect picture.  I was so jealous I didn't find it first!  @Kat0121
has a knack for finding these terrific photos. :D

Good luck at your new job.  You mentioned it's a maze, too?  Is it a tall maze where you can't see over the edges?  I've always wanted to go exploring in one of those.
I'm not sure how tall the maze is going to be, as it's just starting to grow. It isn't very big though, so it will probably be something that kids can do pretty easy. I've been in huge ones that take about an hour to get through. It was a lot of fun. Most pumpkin patches around here have corn mazes. Maybe you can find one near your town thus fall. Even if you have to drive an hour or so, it's usually worth it.

Did you get up and put some kibble in the dishes?  Did Ra get his way by emitting heat waves until you got up?  Clever Ra.

A corn maze?  I didn't know they existed, although it's obviously a great way to make a maze.  I guess people have already made the inevitable joke about having plenty to eat if you get lost.

Corn maze sounds different. I would be scared I would get lost. I don't have a good sense of direction. I need street signs or a compass.  Honeybee slept on me all night even though it was warm. I haven't put the ac in the window yet. I hate running it. its loud and I cant hear the tv. I prefer natural cold air from outside. I have a box fan in the window that I use. The living room is the only room with two windows side by side so I know the cats can still look outside. Spoiled cats.

I put Honeybee beside me last night on her red fuzzy blanket and she seemed content. Woke up at 2am with her curled up in a ball on my stomach. I wanted to roll over on my side but I stayed on my back so she wont be disturbed. by 4:30 I had to move her. I had to get up and go to the bathroom. She loves to sit right on my bladder and squirm around. she snores in her sleep. crazy kitty.

Hope you all get some sleep soon.

Well I've been up since 6 even though I really didn't have to be, Sammy decided to eat a hole in the middle of his food and wake me up to tell me how empty it was. So I filled it to his liking, of course than realizing his food bag is low it wasn't when when got dog food of course, laid back down eevon barked at 6:30 to potty so I decided to just get up and get on with my day. I got an elliptical for my birthday so I've started running again, not the 2-3 hours a day yet but it's also horrid warm in here. Turning on the AC doesn't happen unless our bones are melting just uses to much electricity lol so I turned on coffee and now I get to stand here turning it off and back on until it decides to brew the whole 12 cups and not just 2-4. I've had a keurig for 4 years never been out of the box because of the lack of counter space but I think I can clear something up to get coffee in a decent amount of time lol I have to find the set of Allen keys to tighten up some bolts on the elliptical I think they got loosened during transport and I'm sitting with Sam while he watches out the window such a simple life for the fur kids

I don't know if this is true or not but I once read that it is possible to avoid getting lost in a maze if you reach out to the wall of the maze with one hand and stay in contact with it the whole way.  Never lift it up because a passage branches off - just go down the passage.  It seems to me that even if this did work to get you out again, it would very definitely be the long way around!

The things we put up with for our kitties! You are not the only one who remains immobile despite bladder needs or limbs going to sleep, just to avoid rousing a sleeping cat.  I think it's sweet Honeybee snores.  I've never had a cat snore before.  Dogs yes, but never a cat.  It must sound pretty cute.

Another one of us whose sleep is controlled by a feline overlord!   Two - three hours a day running?  Wow.  Were you in training for something when you were running that much?

Thank you to everyone for the congratulations! The ceremony was really pretty. The officiant we used just had the perfect things to say. I think that this was really a great wedding for us ourselves, the next is really for friends and family since it'll bigger and less intimate (still only around 50 people).

We still have a few days of work, but we'll leave for the ocean on Friday night.

I'm so glad to hear everything went smoothly.  It sounds like it was exactly what you hoped for and I'm so happy for both of you.  Congratulations again!

No, I ran a lot back in 14/15 things were going on that I was having a hard time dealing with and it seemed healthier to run out the stress and anger than to do anything else. I would run for an hour a few times a day or an hour and a half. With the arthritis in my knee that's deformed it I can't go out walking I loved to run as a kid and I haven't been able to since I was 13. It helps with depression and the fact I've gained so much weight since my leg went wonky.

I think that is really awesome to run that much.

I definitely love running but my knee doesn't like it much. Its taken me a few months to be able to jog at all. I wish I had time to walk 2 hours a do. I would be able to shed this weight. For now I pace a lot at work. Wish they had a workout room here because I would be on the equipment at break time and lunch. I really could use a treadmill here.

The gym I go to is getting new equipment this week so I wont be able to go. Its been so hot in the house to exercise. Maybe the sweating will help burn calories?

I can't do a treadmill because of the pounding on my knee the elliptical is what is it, low impact? I've started having pain and stiffness in my hip on the same leg so I'm hoping the motion will help I used to love to bike ride and roller blade. I was never inside, after we moved here my bike got left and there's really no sidewalks to skate on I grew up with tons of sidewalks. I don't trust people not to hit me since I can't always tell if the car is moving or how close it is I've waited for parked cars...... Embarrassing. If you have access to a pool though anywhere that's a great cool down exercise even if it's just walking back and forth. I was doing a workout video until it got really hot and now unless I get up at 5/6 and do that than its just to hot. Even the dogs want to sleep in front of the fans and be left alone
