Wow! Way to go! I thought I ate fairly healthy, but I actually still use dairy in my coffee and eat peanut butter. I can chuck bread, but do crave carbs after a few days. I guess that means I need to make more changes. I do love avocado and regularly use olive oil, so that works. It sounds like really getting down to basics.

Honestly, that's how I grew up. My mom cooked from scratch, and there was no fast food at all. No sweets, unless homemade, and not often. Not much to tempt us back then really. I just ate food. Times have changed. I need to go back to my roots!

My dog is so funny. She wasn't allowed in the living room before we put the laminate floor in. Now she is very cautious about coming into the room even though we've been inviting her. She is such a good dog.

I love bread and pizza!  Unfortunately they don't love me back.  I learned that on the FODMAP diet (which I am still doing - on the reintroduction of fruit now.)

It's an elimination diet.  After 30 days they want you to eat a bunch of stuff in one food group like dairy, then go back to the diet and see how it effects you.  I can't decide if I want to try corn or chocolate first.  Fresh corn on the cob is in season now (through October) and I love it.  The diet is also supposed to reset your metabolism and hormones and immune system.  Reading the book for it was interesting.

Everyone else in my house is enjoying chips and chocolate.  I'm not tempted to cheat and I really thought I would be.

The computer is here.  I've had it 6 and a half hours.  I think I've killed it.  Drew is going to fly in and strangle me.  I keep telling myself this is something very simple, and when he calls back, he'll tell me, "push that button" and all will be well.  That's what I keep telling myself.  i'm doomed...doomed...
Okay, everyone, I actually know a little bit about this computer.  It came with Windows 8.1.  I've had a computer with Win 8.1, and its poor reputation was well deserved.  I managed to get mine rolled back to Win 7, and the people who sold me the computer actually paid for the change, but Mamanyt1953 can't do that, so she's getting the free upgrade to Win 10.  Now, I seriously doubt that Mamanyt1953 has actually done anything dire to her new computer; it seems much more likely to me that the new computer is doing something dire to her.  My guess (and it's only a guess) is that she set it to making the Win 10 upgrade and it either locked up on her or is taking so long that it appears to have locked up on her.  But, since I've been very careful not upgrade to Win 10, I don't know how likely that is.  Does anyone else have experience with this upgrade?
I'm jealous of everyone who has hot weather. Tomorrow is only going to be in the 50's. And possibly rain. I'm going to have to get the fireplace going.
It's been quite hot in Denver the last few days, and since we have all these medical bills to cover I'm trying to get through the summer without air conditioning.  I've been opening the windows and turning on a fan at sundown every night, and getting up at 7 a.m. to close things up again, and this is the first night all week that it's actually been cool enough for me to go to bed before 2 a.m., and that's only because we had a thunderstorm this afternoon that cooled things down.  I hope this doesn't sound harsh, but I suggest you enjoy your fire.

Good night all.  Margret

No worries about air-con' here, more like deciding whether to give in and put heating on in mid summer.
Actually it has been pretty good for the past week but even with sun last week it only got to about 60 because of an east wind.  Today it looks like it should reach around 65 and sunny!
Mind you, it's also forecast for heavy rain and thunder storms for later in the afternoon.
I think I prefer it cooler.

I have to go out this morning to pick up a parcel I missed being delivered a few days back, so once out I might find a few things to do and Mouse will get a nice quiet day without me annoying him with scritches.

It's been pretty nice here in Nebraska, 70's to low 80's and some rain thrown in once in a while. Supposed to be in the upper nineties at the end of this week, yuck! I have so many flower beds to water since my husband doesn't water his lawn enough to keep them alive, so it seems like I am watering and weeding a lot. The lawn is beautiful, like a rolling green carpet and the flowers are starting to bloom everywhere, it's been a bumper year for roses! The garden has been great too. I've had two crops of radishes and two big heads of cauliflower. No peas, the deer like them better then me. The tomatoes are setting eve though they are still little, and the potatoes are looking like the best crop ever!

You could make stew!  I love cooler weather for that reason.  Start it up and the house smells so good all day long.
That sounds delicious. I planned on chicken soup today, but tomorrow will be a little on the cool side also, so maybe stew tomorrow. Thanks.

We've already hit 90s here in Florida. And now we are having our first tropical storm of the season named Colin. High winds, and bridges and streets closed. Kids let out of school early today. Much flooding of streets. Power lines down. State of emergency declared by the governor. Most of us long-time Floridians take it in stride. Give it a couple of days and it will be over. I was at the beach on Saturday and got sunburned just taking a walk.

But I lived in upstate NY during college. Not too far from Canada. It never got really warm. Always needed a sweater at night. I always said there were only 2 seasons there: winter and July. In Florida we have 2 seasons too: summer and February!

I don't like extended cold though. I much prefer the south.
I guess I'll look on the bright side, at least we do get 3 seasons. Fall is absolutely gorgeous up here.

Yes but not like before where I couldn't concentrate on anything and just wanted junk food.  I went for a 20 minute walk since something scared Eclipse and he came inside.

Tonight we are having Chicken Stir Fry w/snow peas and water chestnuts.  I can't have sugar or soy sauce so I will heat everything up w/olive oil, take out my share and then add some flavoring.  There will be rice, but not for me :) .  It's fine, I have been ignoring bread since the end of February, rice will be so much easier to ignore.  I also have a salad and Black Olives.

The Whole 30 is no grains (corn is a grain here), no sugar/sweetener in any form, no soy, no peanuts, no dairy, no seed or veggie oils except Avocado and Olive oils.  They also suggest using organic and grass fed meats.
Have you tried coconut aminos yet? It is an awesome and approved whole 30 replacement for soy sauce. We love it.

Sooo not sure I did the right thing here, but I was exploding inside and felt way better afterwards. I had my weekly review with my manager yesterday, and basically told her I'd been looking for a part-time job. It's a long complicated story as to PART of the issue I've been having with my job, but it is something my immediate bosses have been working on amending for about two years now. Big corporations have some really hard set rules about things - we'll put it that way. So, basically waiting on a decision from HR (after multiple layers of approvals) at the moment regarding it for this year. Didn't go into my other feelings about wanting to switch fields or anything - that's another conversation for another day - but I did need to get my thoughts out there. I've been SO upset about this for a pretty long time now. Going on almost two years. I guess I was ok with it a couple years ago, but after two years, and not making the progress I'd hoped, nope, not so much.

Yeah, I know, you have no idea what I'm talking about, lol. That's ok. Just wanted to say that. I feel like a huge weight is off my chest after yesterday.

On the part-time job front, still haven't heard back from anyone. Not sure how long it normally takes - been so long since I did this that I don't know what is considered "the norm". I know they were interviewing people last week (first "waves" if you will anyway), not sure about this week. Maybe I didn't make the cut? Who knows. Not sure at what point I should follow up. I know I'm just antsy at this point.

At my work everyone is hired almost right away. Usually only waiting a day or two to find out, but I know that this isn't normal. Jobs that aren't stuck without someone filling the position are more likely to take their time (in cases where employees have given a good amount of notice and this kind of thing). For example, one job I applied for took a really long time, since they were trying to fill a position of someone who was going to quit once her baby was born.  That one took forever, since they were preparing months in advance. Where my dad works, the hiring process can take several months as well, but this is because they never really NEED anyone, they just are able to hire more people.

I've heard the job market in the Northwest is much better than in a lot of other areas. I think on average, they say there are 300 applicants for every position. That may have gone down by now, not sure. And I'm not sure if that included part-time.

The last time I got offered a position at the end of an interview was the last job I had before 9/11. It's unheard of in this area since then.

woke up sore for a change. I finally did enough damage at the gym to hurt. gonna look into that 30 diet-I do eat tons of eggs and peanuts. on a high protein diet. it helps curb the appetite. Listening to motley Crew smoking in the boys room.

I hope you get the job Donette-its so frustrating to be stuck. I have decided to keep on the down low about switching careers-just going to quietly network and see whats out there.

View media item 353181This is Loki. He's kind of goofy at times. We have this cat door going from our living room to the patio. We've had it for a year and a half. He will not use it unless I hold it open for him. He will sit like this until we do so.

Anyway, today he has been sitting there for about a half hour. The crazy thing is, the door is open to the patio. I even poked my head out and said hi to him, so he is aware of it. What a goofball!

I have a cat door to the patio also. Two of my cats went through it within minutes of me installing it, it's a full length glass panel with the door in the bottom to fit next to the sliding door that is removable.Even the foster who came later just watched another go through it and immediately followed. The only one who to this day won't use it is my Persian. She is not too bright. One night when I had forgotten she was out there she stayed there all night. When I got up the next morning she was sitting there staring at the door. I put my hand through the cat door, she came to my hand but still would not come through the door. OK, I take back that she is not too bright, she has learned other things that some of the other cats don't seem to pick up on.

That's so funny!  We have a cat door going out to the tunnel and have to keep it taped open since our cats have a hard time figuring it out.  They have learned that when the tape is on the door it's looked so they try to take the tape off to go out.

I haven't tried the Coconut Aminos.  I will find some though 'cause my stir fry could have used something.  We got the unsweetened coconut milk and DH says it tastes like regular milk.  I just want it for my tea and mashed potatoes!

@foxxycat   You can get most of the diet rules at www.whole30.com.  The book has more information and all the 'sciency stuff'.  What is really killing me is the rule about not weighing or measuring during the 30 days.  I'm sure lots of people ignore that but I feel that if I bend one rule I'll start bending them all.

I've been away for a few days and came back thinking the Babbling thread would be over but it seems like it's going as strong as ever.  What's our goal?

And belated congratulations to Columbine!

My 2 or 3 year old desk top computer runs on Windows 7. When they came out with Windows 10 I upgraded to that. I did not like it one bit and went back to Windows 7. Recently I talked to somebody at Office Max where they do small repairs and they told me that going from Windows 7 to Windows 10 does not work very well, something about the way it is configured. But that a later version converts to Windows 10 quite well.

When I bought my comp Windows 8 had just come out so I got mine on discount. Later I heard that Windows 8 was a disaster so I was more than happy that I had gotten the "old" version.

Well, I took Rose and Princess to get their annual Rabies vaccination. That went well, although Rose wasn't happy. (She's a little bigger than Princess, so I had her in the larger carrier.) Poor Princess: she was going crazy this morning because I left standing orders (under pain of no dinner) to keep her in until I could take her to the clinic this morning. The clinic ran really well, so even though there were four people (five pets) in front of us we got through pretty quickly.  (I think Rose is still a little upset. She did not  want to go the car.)

I got the job!
Training starts tomorrow, and I have my first shift Thursday! (They wanted me to go in for training today, but the class was full.) I'm excited about it!
