@Donutte What a great interview.  Glad it went so well - not that any of us are surprised.  By now you have a great wealth of knowledge and experience through your own pets.

Just had the oddest and surprisingly tasty dinner.  Italian Sausage, Sweet Potato, sauteed mushrooms and a salad w/ veggies and fruit.  And I managed to stick to the Whole 30 plan!

Fluffy had a vet appointment this afternoon for shots and it did not go well.  They had to use gloves and put a muzzle type thing over her face.  She kept hissing at the vet.  It's the first time we've seen him and I don't think she liked him.  They were going to trim her nails but I said no.  She was too upset.  She was very happy to get home.

Sometimes animals react to smells that humans either don't register or dismiss. Maybe she smelled something on the vet that she didn't like, and it wasn't necessarily the vet. Of course, I don't think the muzzle helped; I've noticed with my kitties that they don't like to be confined.

I hadn't considered that.  The muzzle went on after lots of hissing and swipes.  I don't know what country he was from originally but he was very quiet when he spoke and didn't seem to have the confidence I've seen in other vets.  I just assumed he was fairly new.

Well, there are some people most cats just don't like. I don't know if it's scent, or if it's physiology, or even some kind of chemistry that doesn't mix right, but there are some people that cats hate on sight. I had a lot of trouble with that as a kid, and I think the only reason why our cats like me is because not only am I the caregivier (food, litter, grooming. etc), but we've had most of them since the day they were born (quite literally). Then again, cats love  RB; even shelter cats fawn all over him. (And he, of course, doesn't notice.)

The cat I met today at the adoption center I volunteer at was so very sweet. He loved having his face and ears petted. The couple that wanted to meet him filled out the forms so we'll see what the shelter says about whether or not they're a good match. I literally spent most of my shift sitting on the ground petting him. He's a sweet cat. I am so glad the shelter doesn't adopt out FIV+ cats to families with non FIV+ cats since he definitely would have tempted me. He looks just like my rainbow cat.

I now use a VCA that has gold standard status in the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Mook is a high conflict cat and hates strangers. I watched them work with her personality and fears and avoid conflict. Same with Mercy who was terrified during her dental exam as the vet got pictures of her mouth to send to the specialist.

BTW Kids cats , dogs, grown adults follow my husband around like the pied piper. I have never seen a squalling baby not go to him and be smiling seconds later. There was a terrible car accident outside the diner we were in last year. My husband has lots of training vanished. I finally found him holding the baby of the woman whose care was hit. He was sitting next to the mom comforting her while waiting for the ambulance. He just puts everyone at ease. And is totally unaware of it.

Yay donutte donutte ! So happy for you. That's great news.

handsome kitty handsome kitty one of my favorite whole 30 meals is also the simplest. Brown 1 lb. Ground beef with half an onion. Then add 1/4 cup, canned coconut milk, 2 cups frozen broccoli, 2 cups frozen carrots, 1 tsp curry powder, salt and pepper to taste. It's great for those days when everything goes wrong as it only takes about 15 minutes to cook. You can mix up different kinds of veggies in it too. I like cauliflower and carrots just as well. I always seem to have broccoli on hand, though.

What's everyone up to today? I'm going to do some spring cleaning and organizing! I can't find anything in my pantry, so it's time to purge.

I have a glass jar obsession and it gets out of control, occasionally. Well, not occasionally. It gets out of control several times a year. When I start tripping over them, I know it's time to let go. Boohoohoo.

I have to organise my closet later (it's a train wreck at the moment :anon: ), I have a couple of food deliveries due that will need sorting - one for me and one for the cats :catguy: I'm not sure what else yet. I'm sure something will present itself :lol3:

So....... I opened my pantry, stood there dumbfounded, closed the pantry door and went upstairs to rearrange the workout area.

I decided to get rid of some equipment that we don't use, and carried it downstairs. Now when hubby gets home, we'll pack it up in the truck and take it to storage.

That's one way to get out of ridding myself of glass jars!!!!! Woot woot.

Thanks guys! I'm about to send off the thank you email to the lady that interviewed me today (I swear by doing that - and cover letters). I didn't sleep very well last night, was thinking a lot about how the heck I'll get enough sleep if this pans out. And in the process, didn't sleep last night of course! Amazingly enough, I'm pretty awake today.

*fingers crossed* Hopefully he will show you are his the moment he sees you!

My interview went great. I don't think I can say I ever *enjoyed* an interview before, but I think I did this one. It was less about seeing if I was right for the position. I think she already felt that I would be good for it, but she brought up a list of positions they have open to see what would be the best fit. WOW. That kinda happened (not exactly, but kinda) when I came to IT, but that person had known me for a few years and it was internal.

I think what really impressed upon her was that I'm looking to make this a profession at some point, but want to get the experience. It's not about doing any one thing specifically, because all the pieces of the puzzle work together after all. I'm ok doing receptionist work - in fact, that was the position I applied for - but she asked me if I would be interested in doing vet assistant work. That is something I would LOVE to do!

There are a couple other people that handle the various areas I mentioned that will be getting in contact with me for an interview (neither were in today). I know she said one but perhaps both of them work on weekends, so may have something set up this weekend, or perhaps next.

Definitely don't want to jinx anything, so just taking things one step at a time for now, and enjoying the high I have at the moment.
That entire interview sound like it was excellent!  The person who interviewed you is a very perceptive person. I am so glad they had other openings are willing to train.. that is a good position to be in.

I am sure you will get the job.. An assistant Vet Tech.. that is good... lots of hard work, but I think it will be very rewarding.

I wish I had done something like that. Alas, my allergies could have gotten in the way.. but to imagine being able to help the helpless..the poor animals. Of course, there will be sad times but there will be a lot of happy times, which will make up for the sad. I looked into it, and asked my Vet about it. I also spoke with some of the Techs there. They all said it was very physical work. Carrying animals, handling scared animals, cleaning up cages, muck work, etc.

Good Luck!! I am positive you will go through this with flying colors!!

Aww - he sounds absolutely adorable :heart3: I don't suppose you took any pictures for us?!?

What's the little guy's name?
His name is Echo. He's a really sweet seven year old FIV+ cat. It sounds like the adoption manager will approve the family that he met with today as long as everything comes through with their landlord. I'm excited for him. He's been in the shelter system since the beginning of May. So he won't have been in the shelter for too long.

He's a cutie and deserves a great home!
:heart3: :heart2: :heart3:  :thud: :wow: Echo is seriously GORGEOUS! He looks absolutely blissed out in that picture :9: So great to hear that he might already have a new home :cross: that their landlord gives them the green light. It's always lovely to hear of older cats being snapped up straightaway - something that's sadly all too rare in shelters :sigh:

Some people are just like that, I guess.

finally  got called back! I'm going into the store to submit my information, fill out my paperwork, and get the info for the mandatory class I have to take before working--and then I'm all set!

My angelfish did just fine in a 10-gallon tank.
There are too many fish in that little tank already, adding an angel or two will make it so crowded there will be a die-off.

I used to make something like that for my children when money was really tight. Don't know about the coconut milk but I served it with rice and the kids just scarfed it up. Usually I had frozen peas in there, not broccoli and it sort of made its own gravy to go over the rice.
