First, I HAVE A LAWYER!!!   Her name is Sarah Dixon, and she is very nice.  She knew immediately who the district manager was who refused to move me.  Evidently, this isn't her first go round with the...person.  She is going to write a "demand to comply" letter for me, but is waiting until after my quarterly inspection ("no sense in giving them the idea to try to fail you on some minute technicality").  She did say that if I wasn't moved in a reasonable time, she would be happy to meet the district manager in court with me.  I am so relieved!

I got a good nap in this afternoon, which is going to be very necessary.  My neighbor, who is so good about taking me to shop, etc., is free tomorrow, but only at 5AM!!!  And the cupboard is bare!  SO...I will be at Wally World shortly after 5 to do my monthly shopping.  The advantage is that there are no crowds to battle.  With the handicart, that is a real plus!

@Tallyollyopia The blankets are lovely!  So far as driving a stick, my dad taught me by buying me a cute little 5-speed, and leaving me in the parking lot of his work with it.  He said, "By the time you get it home (25 miles away), you'll be able to drive it just fine!"  It took me two hours, most of which was getting the first 6 blocks, but he was right.  And I've been able to get into any car since, and handle it with no trouble within a block.

@Kittens Mom   an outboard motor sounds lovely...or one of those hoverboards, although that might be courting a broken hip!!!

Do they make hover boards with training wheels ? Great news about the lawyer. 5 AM in Wally is usually a good thing.

@Mamanyt1953   Good luck with getting your housing situation sorted and finding a place you can get in and out from easily.

Loving all the rodent / bird chat.  I grew up with budgerigars (like parakeets I think) as my mother didn't want any cats or dogs, and as soon as I was old enough I had gerbils.   They were pretty rare in those days and I made good pocket money selling all the babies they had.
As soon as I  could get any kind of pet after I left home I had a hamster called Ron:  I got him as a leaving present from a job I had as they all knew how desperate I was for pets - I had goldfish, and then got more budgerigars as well as my golden hamster.  He was trained to do pretty much anything for chocolate that I'd place on the top bars of his cage.
He also got to roam about in the garden, safely fastened in his hamster ball, and the neighbour's cats would come to watch him.    Once the fish, budgerigars and hamster were 'no more' I managed to find rooms to rent where the landlord had cats - perfect.   Then once I had my own place I adopted my first cats.   Long time coming but wonderful.

I was visiting a friend last week and she told me I'd love her younger daughter's most recent birthday present - safely stashed up in her bedroom (as they have a little tabby).  I swear they have the most beautiful hamster I have ever seen!
She is pretty small for a hamster but I can't remember what kind she is.  She is white with little black markings which include a cross over her back.  She loves to be handled so I got a nice warm stroking session with her.
So sweet.   Aparently the cat hasn't shown any interest in her but they are keeping her upstairs and with the door closed just in case.

Well, @MServant, if you are enjoying rodent chat, take a gander at these:

Skittles

View media item 349619
Poppet (ignore the torn loveseat...I was actually waiting on furniture delivery that day!

View media item 349620
Yoda Rat

Yoda was my big, squishy boy who would walk on a leash so well.  All of them were leash trained, but he was a master at it.  I'll look for pics of his cagemates, Darth Squeek and Lukie Skyscamper.  I think I have some, somewhere!

Aw, these guys are so cute!  I was never into rodents until my daughter got guinea pigs and then I totally fell in love with them.  They really are the cutest things - my "grandpigs."  I wish I had a photo of them to add to the gallery of lovely rodent photos.

We had parrots growing up - one of them would wolf whistle at my father's boss's wife whenever he saw her.  Fortunately everyone involved had a sense of humor about it or things could have been a bit awkward!

I'm just drooling. I have a hard time when I see rats in a pet store.  Like cats they are undervalued as pets by a lot of people. Wildly smart and very social. But with Mook and Mercy a rat would have a caged life here.

Thank you. It's my first time working with preformed fabric (I crochet and used to knit until I hurt my arm--long story). There's no way either of my parents could have taken the same route your father did; for months after the accident police kept pulling the truck over to make sure that I  wasn't driving it!
(Of course, I was too traumatized by the thought of accidentally inducing that woman to even try--no, automatic for me all the way.)

His coloring was very unusual because both his parents and all of his siblings were agouti. My cat at the time didn't care for the mouse either.

Here are my current three geriatric mice:

View media item 349631
Moo is the one in the wheel with the white spot on his back. The one next to him is Baldy because he has two bald spots on his back. Chunky is the one outside the wheel. All three are almost a year and a half old.  They are not siblings but share ancestors.

Emma occasionally sits next to the box and watches. I'm not sure what she thinks of the mice. Leroy just ignores them.

Gosh, I'm so boring over here.  Got nothin' but cats.  No mice, no rats, no birds, no raccoons, no squirrels
.  Well, got some doves outside, but they're wild and fly away every morning when I fill up the bird feeder.

Used to have dogs, but no more. Oh well...such is life.  And you know what?  I'm perfectly ok with it

@Tallyollyopia   I did see those photos of the blankets you made and they look spectacular.   Amazed you managed to part with them.

@Mamanyt1953   Those rats are
I'm loving Skittles, and Yoda looks like something from a kids story book - so cute.

@LTS3   How old does a mouse have to be to be classed as 'geriatric'?  They look to be in good shape there.
Your first mouse was very pretty.  My first pet was actually a little brown mouse but I don't think I had her for very long...  I got measles not long after I got her as a birthday present and my mom told me the mouse had infected me with measles when she bit my thumb a day or two before and that the mouse 'had to go'.
I do remember how bad the porch smelled where her cage was tho' so I kind of get why my mom wanted to banish her.   It's fun casting up to my mom that she lied to me as a kid about how I got the measles  and used it as an excuse to get rid of my mouse though.

She says she can't remember what she did with the mouse....   I actually believed her about the measles being from the mouse bite until I was 18 and at college - and was in a class being told about how different diseases were transmitted, and couldn't believe it when the lecturer said measles wasn't transmitted by blood.

A year old is old for a mouse. Most mice live to a year old or so, wild mice having shorter life spans because they deal with more dangers than pet mice. I rescued the three from being PTS simply beacause they were a year old. My first mouse lived to a few weeks shy of 2 years old. He had to be PTS by the vet because he started having seizures

Male mice smell more than females. My first mouse lived alone so the smell wasn't bad. My three old guys stink because they pee on everything
. I have to wash their wheel and bowl and igloo every other day to keep the smell down. The box is dumped and cleaned out once a week. The blocks of rodent food smells a lot more than a seed type mix.

I have a dress fitting today for my wedding dress. I'm excited to see how it looks when it is actually the right size on me.
Fun
What does your dress look like? Did you try on a million dresses before finding "the one"?

I don't believe they ever found out who shot him. It happened in Michigan's Upper peninsula where there are alot of people who consider cats as rodents.

(I don't know if you can see tell, but the dark shells are purple.) I agreed to make baby blankets (Grandma was thinking one that looked like the one in the picture, but I didn't have soft enough yarn and I won't use a brand new brand for a gift), so I went to the store and got some fabric. I probably wouldn't have gotten the fabric, but would have gone for a soft yarn in a brand I'm familiar with, if it hadn't been for this.

(*sniff* Slipper.
) The book inspired me to try a totally different project, and given how they came out I'm kind of glad I did. Reason number 2) In our house there's a superstition that if you surround yourself with baby stuff you'll get a baby, and I'm not ready for one yet.

I bet it looks great! And if it doesn't, make them do it over again. It's your day and it doesn't count unless you  are satisfied. (When LS got married the bridal gown shop she went to tried to force her into a dress she didn't like, so she ended up eloping. None of us cater to that  attitude, not if they want our money.)

I tried on exactly two dresses before finding the one. Realistically, I knew that it was the one the moment I saw it. It is royal blue with a neckline that has swooshes and inch wide straps.

I got two crickets for my tarantula to lull her into a food coma to make moving her into her new tank much easier. One of the crickets somehow escaped which apparently entertained my cats for quite some time. When I came back in and saw what they were doing I caught the cricket in a cup and put it back in with the tarantula, who promptly tackled it.

Her excitement over this is not making me feel like she is going to be nice and calm for her move. She seems a bit too hungry still.

My cats are still trying to find the cricket that I stole.

Sorry. Feeling a little blue. Got into an argument with AWM about Slipper. She suddenly started ranting that the cat must have been stupid or it never would have run into the highway to get hit by a car. I hotly said that we had no idea what happened to her previously and that Slipper most certainly had not  been stupid, citing examples of intelligence and creativity in her (she figured out how to open the fridge--but stopped when the door closed on her and she couldn't get out). RB interruped and asked if it was possible that Slipper had been deaf and simply couldn't hear a car coming and I said, depending on how far into the road she was, it didn't matter since morons take the highway at 80 mph (55 is the legal limit, but police are stretched a little thin here, and also why I couldn't let her follow me as I ran up by the highway--and I made sure she never did) and she simply wouldn't have had time to react.

I can't help but feel a little bit angry; maybe if I'd had a little  cooperation from them when I first said "something is wrong" we could have found her before it happened. No, because we would have been looking in the same area I canvassed which was in the opposite direction of where we finally found her. It's not anyone's fault--it was just an accident--but they make me so mad!

No wonder you are feeling sad.  Of course Slipper was not stupid - even people get hit by speeding cars while trying to cross the road.  I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through this right now.

Compounds it all doesn't it.  I'm sorry. Most likely the comments are your AWMs way of coping with what happened. Maybe feeling guilty she didn't help sooner ?  Lots of stress and grief.

It's never pretty.

Long suffering sigh. For the third time this spring I have had to text my neighbors and ask them to silence their dog. From 9 PM - 10 PM it barked nonstop and I believe it did it without taking a breath. At 10 PM I informed them via text . I always make sure its a text so they can't twist what I'm saying, That at 10:30 I was calling dispatch for the sheriff.  I have tried toughing it out but the serenades have went on for hours. The absolute record was a full 13 hour bark a thon when they were out of town. I'm done being even halfway civil about this. This has been going on for almost 25 years. Last year was the first time I lost it called the cops.

I'm betting that AWM is feeling a bit of grief and expressing through anger.  Not very nice, but oh, so human.  She's probably feeling a bit guilty over no cooperating when you did first say something was wrong.    I know it was hard for you to hear, but it sounds like grief and guilt all rolled into one ball that came out all wrong.  When Gray, the cat I grew up with, got himself killed, my AWD went on a rant, cursing up a storm, and "stupid cat"ing here and "dumb cat"ing there, then he slammed out of the house and wept in the yard for an hour.  It takes some people like that.
