I want to know what kind of cake it is, it sounds like a serious cake making exercise.
I can't imagine making a cake that would take that long and not get eating half way through being made.

I can never decorate a cake to look pretty. I usually have to have a bite before it even cools. I love warm cake fresh from the oven.

Oh WOW! That looks awesome. Now I understand why you said you have a hard time losing weight when your daughter is home. Lol. I would weigh a ton if she lived with me.

Oh, help.  I've been climbing my family tree again, and in one section, it looks like one of those braided fruit trees...It seems that my great grandfather, Dr. Jeremiah Elliott married a woman named Fannie Mary Baker.  Then Jere's sister Annie P. Elliott married Fannie's brother William, and his sister Katherine married another of Fannie's brothers, John.  No wonder Daddy always said that we were closer to the Bakers than most of the other branches.  There must be over 100 double cousins running around by now!   AND...just to really confuse things, one of Fannie's sisters, Helen, married a man named Moseley.  VERY unusual spelling of the name, and my maternal  grandmother was a Moseley.  SO...Mama and Daddy may actually have been very distant cousins...if so, then the tree isn't only braided, but entwined with the other tree overhead.  My head hurts.  Must tell Elder Son about this...

Lol, that is a mess of twisted branches. I want to do my family tree someday. Is it hard to do?

If you can afford a membership to one of the family tree sites, Ancestry, FamilyTree, one of those, it is dead easy.  They aren't awfully expensive.  My son actually has the account and gave me his log in and password so that I can work on it with him.  If you know just one or two names, you can start tracking back.  And on Ancestry, those little leaves that you see on the commercials really help.  I've found pictures of ancestors, a photograph of the old Boxwood Plantation house (now I understand my fascination with gothic arched windows), and all sorts of stuff!  We've now branched out into 5 separate trees to keep track of the more interesting branches!!!

Awesome. Thanks. I'll give it a look. I know one of my great great grandmothers was pure Cherokee. I've always been fascinated with Cherokee heritage. I don't remeber which side of the family she was on though. It will be interesting to find out.

My MIL started her when the first grandchild was born.  She is still finding relatives.  Many have sent her pictures.  They have a condo in UT and she has spent many days in their archives.  Every few years she gives us an updated copy.

Only 10 more posts to 1000! Woot woot. Who's going to be the lucky winner? I think we all are as we've certainly had some good reads on this thread.

I have no experience with baking, other than a few cakes. But you just made me crave Banana bread haha. That sounds delicious!

I just checked in, apparently just in time for all the excitement.   This is when it really gets going!  Good luck everyone!

The best thing I've ever baked was a batch of peanut butter cup cupcakes :) those were delicious. This thread is making me hungry now.

So who won? Is there going to have to be some figuring out done because of mistakes? As in not enough words, or consecutive posts.
