A closer look at typical super market canned cat foods

I've been feeding a variety of canned foods, most being the higher rated manufacturers. I do serve a variety of foods and decided to take a closer look at some of the more widely available supermarket varieties main ingredients.

First up is Friskies:

All have artificial flavors. I noticed many of Friskies choices start off with meat or poultry by-products,or water sufficient for processing. Some of Friskies choices have fish (only description), and rice.

A step up seems to be Fancy feast & Sheba who use by products, but they are further down the ingredients list. I notice Fancy Feast has liver only listed on many of their selections, while Sheba uses chicken liver.

I think I prefer Sheba of the three, and its often on sale for 60-70 cents a can. Another possibility for the rotation and certainly in an emergency, considering the ingredients list is similar to Whole Earth Farms (WEF). Like Whole Earth Farms, Fancy Feast and Sheba have chicken in many of their varieties, including beef. I don't like seeing "fish" listed as an ingredient for poultry products that don't include fish in the names, like some varieties of Friskies & Fancy Feast. I'm not crazy about meat or poultry by-products but they are probably ok on a rotation.

I didn't include Trader Joe's or Tractor Supply brands since not everyone has access to those stores.

None of the foods I use now have by-products, carrageenan. or grains.

I've used Sheba and really love it! My kitty loves it too, but she's really not at all a picky eater haha.
