I have a cat that is almost 13 years old. He's always been pretty healthy, although a sensitive stomach. He often vomits and switching his food is a nightmare.

A month ago, he had an anal gland issue and was on antibiotics for it. During his visit, we realized how much weight he'd lost. He used to be about 12 lbs and was down to 9.5 lbs. Not sure how quickly this happened - being busy with a baby and toddler, I really hasn't noticed. While on antibiotics, he got sick and wouldn't eat for a couple of days. Got him onto new food and it took a few days but vomitting slowed down, then a couple of hair balls and I thought we were good. He's vomitting again after every feed. Spent a couple hours at the vet this morning and $555 and don't have a definitive answer. We did bloodwork - it was all relatively normal other than his ALT count (liver enzyme). It was way out of whack...1935 U/L when their range is 12-130 U/L. What does this mean? Well, vet wants to do more tests. X-rays, test to check for IBD, Early kidney disease, liver function test - if this comes back abnormal an Ultrasound. Prior to ultrasound, I'm looking at another $780 to do all this. Because his bloodwork otherwise is fine, the vet really isn't sure on IBD or early kidney disease. Possibly lymphoma. I don't know whether to spend the money because I don't think the prognosis is great. I'm on a reduced income because home for another 4 months with the kids, so if there's nothing I can do for him is going to be the outcome - do I proceed?

I've opted to try some anti nausea meds and some special food and other meds to sooth the GI tract, while I decide what the next step will be. Hoping it will work.

Has anyone seen anything like this or have any suggestions/advice? Just want my poor little kitty better.

Also forgot to mention that since March 24th (his last follow up), he's down to 8 lbs - which is a huge weight loss in a month!
