Hi all
We had a bout of fleas a month back and thanks so much to the numerous tips and ideas from this site we switched treatments to advocate and did a double dose that week, all vacuuming and washing et etc

It seems that the fleas have created the worm issue but using the advocate should do both right? The fleas are gone so far. However we now have worms evacuating the kitties backsides in the evening. Night one, ew but we diligently got the antibacterial wet wipes and took shifts on the girls. Night two, the same thing. My partner even checked the poop and they are also evacuating there too.

Last night was night 3....... Do we dose again or is it normal to have it take a few days. I'm afraid their blankets etc and our stuff will disintegrate if I wash them anymore!!

Thank you for reading this far as it's pretty icky!!

Thanks
Margs

They will need a special tapeworm dewormer from the vet.  I have never used Advocate, but even with other topical flea meds, it kills the fleas, but not the tapeworms.  Most topical flea meds will also treat other parasites, but NOT tapeworms.

Thank you very much for the tips. Spoke to vet and have ordered worm pills. Advocate was recommended as a good brand to kill both flea and worm at the same time. Looks like I will be back to the old individual pills like old school days. On further reading it really looks like these fancy expensive brands are not really that effective anymore.

Again, thanks :)

You're not alone in the nastiness! I too have felt the horror of having to wipe my kitties' tushies. We had a bad flea problem which led to a gross worm problem.

My cats are on revolution for the fleas (it's suppose to help with the worms too), but just to free from this they've been given a few rounds of drontal and I've yet to see a segment exit their rears or in the litter boxes since. Good riddance!

Ewwww fleas and worms, my experience with them was just as bad. The flea infestation we had two years ago was so bad we ended up having to use some pretty harsh chemicals, then our poor pooches were getting rid of worms from both ends. This is why I do not exactly love the warmer months [emoji]128580[/emoji][emoji]128542[/emoji]

Thanks for sharing Haley and Inanna! Strangely comforting to know we are not alone. All advice welcomed and taken. Even bought a new vacuum!
Did you guys worm yourselves as well just in case? So hope that isn't our next problem!! [emoji]128557[/emoji]

Prolabs is what I originally used (runs for around $15 at tractor supply). I had good results with it, but since I was still waging war with fleas I had to continuously dose them every week (and it worked). Prolabs was the only thing I researched that was sold over the counter and actually worked.

When I brought them to the vet however to get Revolution, my vet gave them drontal anyways.
