It is dificult to see, but I think I got to understand the size and nature of the bare patch. It could be a lot of things - a fight with another cat has pulled his hair out, or he has pulled it out himself, or it has fallen out. So it could be an injury or it could be that he was itchy beause of flea allergy or mange or ringworm and felt the need to scratch and pull his hair, or it could be something else, like the result of a tick or spider bite. It may be nothing at all - a minor accident. His fur looks rather dry and not in very good condition, so the patch may be part of a larger problem. Are you sure that is the only place like that?

If you have a vet, I would take him in for a check, and maybe ask for a conditioner for his skin and fur. He has thick fur and it would benefit from lots of brushing, to encourage the natural oils and make it all shinier, and it is easier when grooming to see if there are any problems.
