Hi everyone. My girl was in for allergies and got hydrocortisone and cordova antibiotic shot. So I've put her on duck and pea. But a question for anyone who has had fabric/rug issues.

It could be a coincidence but the sneezing, scratching, and ripping out of hair started right after new rugs were brought in to the house. They're some cheap rugs and i have horrid allergies. They were given to me and I stupidly assumed my friend had washed. Well I noticed my cat scratching and my allergies were bad with them . I washed all in Molly Suds but being some funky cheap rugs (I usually do all wood or tile) could they be an allergen? I'll sticking with the new diet for her just considering pulling them up to be safe.

Has anyone had any problem with rugs or fabrics with their pets?

My cat Milo developed asthma immediately after I moved to an apartment with new cheap carpets.  The situation was compounded by the fact that the apartment building was 40 years old, the duct work had never been cleaned and it was very dusty.  I didn't make the connection with the carpets until a friend told me that her cat had also developed allergies when new, inexpensive carpet was installed.  From what I understand, the allergy can be to the chemicals on new carpets or to the fibers themselves.

In your case, since the rugs were previously owned, the allergy might also be to any carpet cleaners or powdered rug deodorizers used on them before you got them.

Is there anyway you can roll up the rugs and put them outside for awhile?  If your girl improves, there is your answer.

Thank you! I actually washed them in Molly suds on washer. I can't use sanitize cycle on them , think heat will kill them. I removed for now and I'll see.

I guess even brand new there are chemicals on these. I have bad allergies and my feet and hands were itching until they were raw and red when I got them . I thought washing would fix but after reading so much on the site even how things like wool can cause allergies, it seemed at the same time. I made the assumption washing would fix them.

I just want to do whatever needed to help her get better and not itch like mad ripping hair out. If that means no rugs I'm fine with it.
