Movin' on up!
The monthly bout of lunacy is in full swing, at our house. With the total full moon, being tomorrow, my crew is gearing up. As the orb waxes and gets bigger and brighter, the outrageous behavior escalates.

Rowdy is doing her best, to make sure that EVERYBODY joins in her nocturnal rampages. At 2:30 a.m., I was awakened by her banging the bathroom wastebasket. I crawled out from under Buddy and chased Rowdy out of the bathroom. Just as I got back to sleep, I heard her banging the cupboard door. Bill called her an unprintable name and I chased her out, again. Once more, dozing off, I hear banging and pathetic yowling: she had shut the bathroom door, from the inside and couldn't get out. Buddy was sitting in the hallway, commiserating with her. If not for the yowling, I might have left her in there. Rowdy may find herself confined to the crate, with Pearl tonight.

Opie has contented himself with dragging out every pet brush and comb, in the house and grooming himself. As a shorthair, he has a boar-bristle brush and regularly brushes himself. Suddenly, he feels the need to use the longhair brush and comb. Last evening, there were grooming implements scattered all over the family room floor. When I put them back on their shelf, Opie dragged them down again.

Is there a sleepng pill, for cats? I'd like to give one to Rowdy.

Lunar cycle!

Of course!! How silly of me to forget. Of course it's the moon causing the new kitten to have bundles and bundles of energy!!

I need something to believe in. I have to see that there will be an end to the infinite energy level in something that's only six weeks!!! I don't know what sleep is and it's only been two nights

There must be a full moon out everynight where i live!.

My next door neighbour came in for a coffee last nite, and Rosie decided to have one of her "mad half hours"!. She ran up the stairs, through one bedroom, then the other bedroom, back down the stairs, around the kitchen table, then back up stairs again, then decided to grab the lid off my eye shadow where she started throwing it around in the bedroom.

It kept her amused, and soon makes her ready for a nap!!

It's 10:30 p.m. here, and we have a full moon. I can hear JC (currently exploring the storage room in the cellar) opening cabinet doors and "rearranging" the contents. His idea of rearranging is to knock stuff to the floor. He's definitely a "lunatic", and he probably won't sleep much for the next 2 days/nights. Once I go to bed he'll decide to lie on my head, back, hip or shoulder, and will thoroughly clean my ears at least three times during the course of the night. We've had JC for 4.5+ years, and my colleagues are very used to me coming into work half-dead from lack of sleep during the full moon. They make all sorts of jokes about werewolves and my being "verKatert". The latter is a play on words. A "Kater" in German is a tomcat, or the slang expression for a hangover!

My cat, Milo, does the same thing that your Opie does. Milo LOVES to brush himself, but he only brushes his face and chin, never anywhere else on his body. And he loves when we brush him on his head, but try to brush his back and he bites you!

Goofy kitties.

This is interesting. Ive never heard of strange behavior related to the moon. Do you people seriously notice behavioral changes in your cats?

Thanks,
Peace,

Ah, yes. I was forgetting. That would explain the rampages that were going on a few minutes ago.

I've never noticed personally. But Rosie has these moments most nights!.

I think with her, it's just an energy surge she has with being an indoor cat!
Yeah thats what I was thinking. MissKitty goes crazy just about any and every night.

Peace,
Brandon

There IS a phenomenon in cats called the "ten o'clock crazies". Being genetically nocturnal creatures, they get a power surge, at about that time.

This does NOT explain Rowdy's 1-3 am antics. Buddy seems to be the least affected. He is naturally indolent and prefers to snuggle up and sleep all night long. Opie's lunacy manifests itself in silly behavior. Since he is normally a very dignified gentleman cat, silliness is unnatural, for him.
