Hi, and thanks in advance for reading.

I have an FIV+ cat called Noah, who for the last few weeks, has been vomiting after food.  The beginning of this coincided with an upper respiratory tract infection, so we took him to the vet, and he was given an antibiotic jab and Bisolvin for the URTI, Metacam for gingivitis, and Ranitidine for the vomiting.  The vet said that the recurrence of vomiting could be due to the fact that once it had happened once or twice, his oesophagus would be irritated, so then eating may cause him to vomit again, so the Ranitidine may help to break the cycle.  We had him on it for a week, stopped the Ranitidine, and he was vomiting again within 12 hours, so we restarted it.  It has now been three weeks, he's finished his second bottle and still the vomiting continues.

Any thoughts?

The URTI has cleared up now.  The vomiting is immediately after he eats, so it is just slightly soft biscuits, though sometimes he will vomit again once or twice after, and it is just clear bile/saliva?

He is pooping normally, diet hasn't changed (he is on Wainwrights Mature 7+ dry biscuits, with one sardine added daily for fatty oils/omegas).

I will be ringing the vet tomorrow to make an appointment, and to pick up some more ranitidine to tide him over so he doesn't drop too much weight, which is a concern for me, as he can lose weight very easily for a big (approx. 5kg) cat.  The vet did suggest the next step being an ultrasound/x-ray if the ranitidine didn't work, as she couldn't feel any blockages when she palpated his abdomen.

Thanks guys.

I'm sorry no one has replied yet. How is Noah doing today? What did the vet say?

Does he eat too fast aka do the scarf and barf? Perhaps try a food puzzle or smaller, more frequent meals and see if that helps? Did they change the recipe of his food lately, or did you switch to a new food? Vigdis refuses to eat any kibbles, but when I can manage to trick her and she does eat them she'll barf them up. Have to give her only wet food.
