The other day, while out on my nightly walk, I was found by a super sweet, super skinny, very week little girl.  She let me carry her all the way home, and has now been recuperating in our bedroom for a few days.

I was worried she had something wrong with her, so took her to the vet.  He was unable to diagnose her for less than $1,000 (blood work, x-rays, all that), so we did the basics to care for her, and brought her back home.  Luckily, she seems to be recovering!  She is getting her strength back and putting on weight.

Since she seems to be recovering, I think it's good news health-wise- likely not cancer or anything else terminal.  So, other than paying the vet more than we can afford, are there any other things we can do for her as we nurse her back to health?  Any special food or special diet?  Anything we should avoid, that might be too hard on her system?  The vet estimates her to be about 8 years old.

Also, I'm trying to work with our local rescue agencies, but none are calling me back.  Other than taking her to a shelter, how can I go about finding this little sweetie a new home, when she's strong enough?

Thanks!

Sweet, skinny little Flowers, AFTER she started putting on more weight. You can see she can't even stand up all the way. Poor thing!

You're an
for saving her life ~  She could barely walk how awful :(

Vets didn't find any tattoos in ear to track where she started

from not fixed by 8yrs old?  Some cats are lost or have run away or ?

Can you post up notices with this photo locally it's sends a huge message out to the owner's

period...If you report her to a rescue and foster her, rescue would cover food all expenses

from now on (fix her if she isn't) plus find her a good home.

Royal Canin has good senior foods.

You had apparently avoided the worst pitfalls, ie giving too much too early...

Goats milk is mild and nourishing.  KMR too.  Ie, think small kitten and baby food.  Some nice vitamine paste as NutriCal or equivalent. She will need E-vitamnies too. could also be some nice mild probiotic, to ensure her bowel system runs smoothly, no stomach upsets.

Royal canine has a nice  cat food,  RC  mother and baby care I think its labelled.

You surely know she is a point, tortoise point with white.

When she is stabilized and well, you can proceed with the more traditional senior foods.

ps.  And of course, lotsa love and good care, so she feels without any doubt she is loved, safe and taken care of.  And extra warmtn source. Heating pad or similiar.  The sick and weak are always freezing, no?

Make a deworming when she is a little more stabilized. Do not use OTC preparates unless you are sure they are mild and not dangerous.

 You are a real cats & cat's lovers' hero/ine!

Flowers has an amazing "paint job" and we all know that she is super-smart for finding you to help her.

If you can afford it, a good canned food is often more easily digested. I like Variety's "Grandmas Dinner" which is mid-priced but can be difficult to locate (I go to Kmart but they don't stock much in and it quickly disappears off the shelves). I also offer chicken (if not boiled, be aware of harmful seasonings such as garlic) egg yolk, both hard-boiled and raw (no egg white, esp. raw because the albumin is as bad for kitties as it is for humans) and bland beef. There are commercial calorie-boosting-pastes available but the ingredients are not all that I would feed myself or a weakened cat.

BTW, if you haven't tried it, Cat&Co (also sold at Kmart) UNSCENTED clumping litter is awesome, esp for the price! & using the Kmart ShopYourWayRewards coupons (I do e-receipt and load them online) really adds up! Those points pay for feral catfood and litter, which is ultra-important since I am unemployed right now. & I get those points buying things that I normally buy - I am a true skeptic - a coupon offering me X amount off for an item that I normally wont buy is still costlier to me than not buying the product at all!

As for placing Flowers, does your area have a Facebook "Buy, Sell or Trade" group? It can be a safer way to reach out to the local community in finding a home for her.  Meanwhile, blessings on your home and you for rescuing that very fortunate kitty!

Wow, she is certainly lucky to have found you! I wonder how long she had been alone out there, poor thing. She seems to have something of the Siamese or Burmese in her colouring. I hope she continues to improve, and best of luck!

What a gorgeous tortoise point domestic short hair she will be when she is healthy again!  Thank you for rescuing this girl.  She will need de-worming, but let her get a bit more stable before going that route.  Male sure she isn't dealing with any flea infestations, as they can, especially in a very depleted cat, lead to severe anemia.  No chance that you can give her a home?  And if you will PM me, I'll try to locate some local rescue groups who might be able to assist you.

Thank you!

Yeah, her back legs were so bad that the vet was thinking it might be something wrong with her spine, maybe tumors. But she's already doing better!

I don't know if she's fixed or not. The vet said he couldn't really tell. Is it possible to tell if a female is spayed? She has no tattoo, no ear notch, no chip...

I've tried contacting foster / rescue places. All their voicemail messages say "If you found a stray, call the humane society", and none have called me back. I haven't been able to get ahold of the humane society yet, and their website and voicemail message don't tell me what I need to know (will they help her? Or consider her to sick and put her down?)

That was one of the only things I knew to do, was not let her gorge herself! Though to be honest, she ate pretty slowly even what I did give her.

Since I haven't made it to the pet store yet, I've given her a little wet food and goat's milk! So far, she seems to be handling it ok. Will have to look at some of your other suggestions.

I thought that is what she is! Wasn't completely sure, so thank you.

I hope she is feeling safe and loved! Unfortunately, Evie, our resident cat, is a not a very cat-friendly cat. So poor Flowers is alone in a bedroom a lot. But she does get company at night, and we let her out a bit during the day, when Evie is locked up.

Luckily, it is very warm here right now, so I'm not too worried about her being cold. But it's a good thing to remember, since it should be cooling down soon. Thanks!

Dewormer, good idea. I'll wait a bit for that, though, as you said.

Aw, thank you! My mom happened to be with me the evening Flowers found me. My mom thought I was crazy for just picking up a random cat on the street and taking her home, but how could I not? She was just so desperate... I had to help! I keep wondering how she could possibly have gotten to this state. Did no one else notice??

And you are right, it's like she just KNEW I would help her. I always stop to talk to every cat I see, but I've never had one come straight for me like that. Like, even with my mom there, she came up to me like "You will save me!!"

And she is a pretty kitty. I can't wait to see how she looks when she's healthy!

Thanks for all that information! I will look in to it all.

That's a good idea about the FB group. I don't know, I'll have to look and see.

I've wondered that too. She is SO SWEET. She's friendlier than Evie is! How did she end up starving on the street? I guess I will never know. But I'll probably always wonder!

And thanks!

I think you are right! She's pretty now, but she should be gorgeous when she's healthy! I can't wait for her to be healthy, and not because of her looks. I hope I hope she stays that way! Honestly, I was honored that she "asked" me to save her! I couldn't say no.

She had fleas really bad, but we've treated them. So hopefully that helps her perk up, too.

I don't know if we could or not. Our resident cat, Evie, as I've been calling Feline Prime at the moment, is not a very accepting cat. We cannot continue keeping them separated like this, it's too hard on everyone. And if Evie doesn't accept her, everyone, including Flowers, would be better off with her having a different home. My daughter, however, is BEGGING Evie to accept Flowers, haha.

Though if we do keep her, we may have to rename her "Banshee". She has the loudest, most piercing meow I've ever heard! I really thought it was an "I'm in pain" meow until I got to know her better.

Just to update, Flowers is continuing to improve. She is actually able to jump again! She can, and often does, plop herself in our laps whether we are ready or not, haha. Still not jumping high, but it's a huge improvement over being barely able t stand. She is grooming CONSTANTLY, and it's really beginning to show. Her fur is so much cleaner! And, for better or worse, she is obviously feeling better, because for the first time since we brought her home, she is actually wanting out of the bedroom we're keeping her in, and even showing interest in going outside!

Though Feline Prime doesn't approve the newcomer, she and our dog got along great from the first moment they were introduced! My dog was a bit wary of the new cat, and Flowers didn't even pay him hardly any attention!

And this is my daughter, the one who named her Flowers, definitely not getting too attached to this cat, haha.
