So yesterday i found a kitten that looks to be about a month old and the vet said it should be eating food now so i bought dry kitten food and some canned kitten food as well. Since yesterday i haven't been able to make it eat any of it. I've put warm water in the dry food to make it like porridge and i've tried leaving it in a bowl near him, giving it to him on my finger, i've even tried shoving a little of it into his mouth and he'll just spit it back out again.. I'm gonna buy some kmr today and try that but i'm very worried because it's been a long time without eating. Way too long. He's also not drinking water, pooping, peeing, purring or playing. Please help. Thanks

At 4/5 weeks old the kitten should still be feeding from his mum, as well as beginning to try solids. He is probably very confused and unhappy. But the first thing is to work out how to get something into him, and that is urgent. Personally I would use a needleless syringe as the easiest method, and start him with KMR. He may also be dehydrated so get some water into him too as a matter od priority. You could get some pedialyte from a pharmacy and give him that in the syringe.

Feed him by placing him the right way up, tucked under your arm so he can't move, then using a 10cc or 20cc syringe, put the nozzle into the side of his mouth and squeeze gently in little squirts so he has to swallow. Do not put it intot he front of the mouth as he could get the liquid into his windpipe and choke. Once he is taking the KMR and is comfortable, then you can start trying to give him soupy kitten food.

He may of course not be as old as a month. It can be easy to mistake a kitten's age by up to a week, so I really would concentrate on getting nourishing liquid into him.

He may not be peeing or pooping because he is starving. So first, get him to eat.

It will be better than cow's milk. But where are you looking? Kitten replacement milk is not available from most supermarkets. You can get it from pharmacies in most countries, or vets sell it. Where do you live? It may help us to help you.

Use what you have today. Get actual kitten formula from a vet tomorrow. You can beat in an egg yolk. Continue feeding every 2-3 hours around the clock. You may want to add a drop of olive oil to help the kitten poop. Burp the kitten after feeding with tiny pats on the back. Use a warm, damp cotton ball to rub the kitten's belly and genitals to produce pee and poop. You can wipe him down gently all over, as this is what mom cat would do. The kitten should pee for you soon. Dark pee indicates dehydration. As it turns almost colorless you know the kitten is getting well-hydrated.

Thanks for saving this little one! How's it going now? [emoji]128522[/emoji]

That's great! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

If you post a picture we can try to see its age. Just keep feeding on a regular schedule for now!

Wow! What a beautiful kitten! [emoji]128571[/emoji]

Have you sexed it yet? It's around 4-5 weeks. Many kittens wean better around 6 weeks. You can try mixing some of the cat milk into pate-style wet food to make a mush, and see if the kitten is interested.

Kittens also love Gerber turkey or chicken baby food if you can get it there! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It's a boy. It's good the pee is clear! Kittens sleep a lot. Until he begins to lap up mushy food from a flat plate, you'll have to continue to feed him. Just be sure he does not choke or inhale formula into his lungs. That can be deadly, so go slow. Hopefully he'll get used to it. Have you tried a bottle yet?

He'll come out when he feels safer!

I cannot get over how cute he is! [emoji]128149[/emoji]
