Hi guys,

Looks like Pumpkin face is starting to show signs of urinary issues.

Backstory=April 5th I was home sick that day=Jon said Pumpkin Face is just sitting in the litter box. I had just scooped it and I noticed smaller balls of urine-thinking it was Honeybee-this has always been hers-(We have done many blood tests to stay on top of it with urine tests=she's fine)

So I can't remember how far back I remember seeing these balls-maybe less than a week?

I made a call to the vet within the half hour that I saw her straining-she has constipation so I assumed that's what it was. They had an opening in 2 hours. So I just kept water near by and fed her wet food-she only picked at it. and of course going to pee every hour-This was April 5th.

We went at 3:30pm and they were slammed and we ended up spending almost 3 hours total.

They were really good and I got my regular Vet Dr Davis who has seen the other kitties the prior year.

They did: urine/blood work/x-rays to check for: kidney stones/colon issues etc.-x-rays came back nothing noticeable. The vet palpated her and didn't find a full colon-the x-rays confirmed. She said she shuddered when she palpated around the bladder-she said she didn't show pain around the kidney area- Urine-they only got 1.5ml out of her as she had just gone but it was enough to see protein/RBC/WBC in it so they said we can do oral meds or a shot. I opted for the shot-she gets extremely stressed out and having urine issues I didn't want to stress her anymore than I already have=(we had a 3 week of eye drops etc. for an eye ulcer-she has had enough!)

The blood work only showed slightly elevated kidney values but it could be because of the infection. I didn't see the blood work myself but they said all is well.

So they did sub fluids 150ml then the shot of convenia (sp?) and sent home with pain meds. She did much better in 24 hours.

Fast forward to this morning-I was scooping the litter and she went but only a small amount. Yesterday she did normal-so I am going to try to get her in today-we already have an appointment to check urine on Tuesday. I would wait but since the kidneys are fragile in a kitty I rather not wait. Not to mention she was giving me that look this morning-mommy help me! So it must be painful. She has been eating and drinking water fine. She slept next to Jon all night so hopefully she isn't in too much pain.

I wanted to know if anyone else has dealt with kidney infections? My vet things its because something bacteria got into her bloodstream-the e. coli bacteria either from ingesting some or it traveled up the uretha and into the kidneys. She said it takes 4 to 6 weeks of treatment. so I was so happy to see the symptoms clear up but I hope this time they get enough urine to actually culture it-but the shot must have worked-she had normal potty habits until this morning/over night.

I just wish this had held off until Monday night-we have a Tuesday afternoon appointment to check urine but its only with a vet tech-now I have to A-change the appointment to see a vet that night-but looks like I will be canceling that appointment IF I can get her looked at this weekend-I only hope when I call in a few minutes that they have an opening and that they send us home with painmeds. It made a big difference in her personality with the pain meds-otherwise she was in and out of the box every hour. She still went small amounts but she was definitely more comfortable.

Thanks for reading this long entry. I just surprised that this kidney infection is stubborn. And we are still trying to give her wet food but she only licks at it-we will keep trying.

We have an Appointment for 10:15 today. I am at work and Jon will take her-they will do the laser treatment on her arms for arthritis too. I was really surprised that they have an opening-usually they don't have openings for same day-so hopefully I don't like to say this-but I hope they do find junk in her urine because then we will know what to do for treatment. Its when they don't find infection that its hard to treat for? So glad she is going to get looked at.

They said her urine is clear=no junk in it-sub fluids and she got another laser treatment for arthritis. So hopefully this is the end of the infection. So not sure if they will want to recheck her urine next week??
