Hi has anyone got any tips or advice concerning my beautiful big 2 year old boy cat, Bear. I believe he was hit by a car. He was missing for 2 days/nights. He never misses breakfast if he go's out at night. But he ended up missing 2 breakfasts and 2 dinner times! I was worried sick about him :( I went out looking for him and calling him between work and sleep. He finally managed to drag himself home by early Wednesday morning. We was all elated with his return!! :) But I could tell pretty much straight away he had damaged his back leg. I immediatley took him to the vets. They gave him pain relief and observed him for possibly internal injuries for 24 hours he was X-Rayed next morning, he has broke his left back tibia in 2 places. They are clean breaks which they say is better. He come home yesterday afternoon with a bandage and splint and anti inflammatory medicine.
The Advice I really want is now I have him home he's having cage rest, but he seems so down and depressed. I'm doing all the obvious, like petting him scratching his head and under his chin when I'm with him, he loves that but how can I keep him happy (as possible after having such a terrible accident) while I'm at work? How can I get him to try and use his litter tray again? as he's used to going outside.. He's urinated on himself a couple of times now. Which I clean up straight away but I know it upsets him so much [emoji]128575[/emoji]
Any advice for the aftercare of a broken leg would be very much appreciated [emoji]128571[/emoji]

It sounds like he can't get to a litter box if he's peeing on himself, not that he doesn't want to get to a box. Is he mobile at all? I think the best you can do is hang out with him when you're home. Hopefully he sleeps most of the time.

Is he neutered? If not, that will be contributing to him wandering further than is safe.

Poor guy. Thank you for being so attentive. Will you be keeping him indoors from here on out?

Thank you for your reply! [emoji]9786[/emoji]️ He is neutered but unfortunately I live near lots of roads. Its only recently I've noticed he's gone a little further then the back garden and front of my house. I definitely think I want to keep him as a house cat from now on. I've never been so worried. He has a little sister who I only let out in the back garden and I sit out with her so I'm sure he will be able to adjust.
He isn't mobile at all right now. And I know the less movement the better. So I will just carry on cleaning him up when he go's toilet, bless him. Just recently he had a wee he was crying so I picked him up carefully to try and get him more comfy but realised he had a wee. Now he's clean, dry and happy. He's been asleep since! [emoji]128571[/emoji] yayy..
I guess I'll have to deal with that until he's able to get himself in his tray.
And lots of strokes and scratches when he's awake :)
