Question...
One of Eva's kittens isn't gaining like his litter mates. His birth weight (4/22 @ 12:30am) was 108 grams. Today he is only weighing 114 grams. He is the most vocal and squirmy one...just never seems totally satisfied if that makes sense. Should I start supplementing with KMR and if so, how much and how often?

I would start with 1 or 2 mls every other hour.  The kitten should still nurse from mom.  Kittens only really meow when they are hungry.  Be sure the kitten and the KMR are both warm.  Place the kitten tummy down on a table and using a small needleless syringe put one or two drops in the kittens cheek, wait for the kitten to swallow and take a breath, then repeat.   Have patience, it takes practice.  Burp afterwards.

Someone (@sarthur2) will be along with more exact feeding information.

What Handsome Kitty said sounds fine to me. It sounds like he needs some extra!

I just want to thank everyone who shares their knowledge and experiences on this site. It has been so helpful!!
Eva and her kittens are all doing really well. Eva is a very attentive mama and her kittens are thriving because of it. I'm supplementing one little guy but other than that, all is good[emoji]128571[/emoji]

Question....
Is it stressful or too hard on a mama to add kittens to her already nursing litter? I keep seeing posts on my fb page from local shelters with kittens needing bottle feeder fosters and I wondered if it would stress Eva out or put her kittens at risk for diseases if I added 1 or 2 to her little family or brought them home and syringe/bottle fed them myself...
Eva's kittens are doing really well and are 3 wks old today.

As long as the babies are all healthy, bringing them in should be fine. I wouldn't assume that they would get enough milk from Eva since she's already feeding 5. You would need to bottle feed the new babies, but they could certainly benefit from being mothered and being part of a litter! That's a lovely thing to do.

Five babies is a lot for mom. I'd wait a couple of weeks until they are weaning. Also, mom might need Udder Balm on her nipples to continue nursing more kittens. And her diet might need supplementing.

Thanks for the replies! I'll keep thinking about it... I definitely don't want to make things harder on Eva so if we do it, I'll plan to feed them.
I just hate seeing so many homeless babies and feel like I contributed to the problem since I didn't get my kitty spayed in time:((
Thanks again!!

Best thing you can do is see that your kittens have excellent homes and are spayed and neutered. Then you might want to begin fostering!

Yes, we will be getting Eva and her babies fixed for sure. I'm also trying to catch the "babies daddy" so that I can get him neutered...he's a stray and thankfully our vet has a tnr program.
I have fostered 60+ critters over the years and will definitely foster again as soon as the time's right:)

New question...[emoji]9786[/emoji]️
Can anyone tell me how much space Eva's 5 babies should have now? They're 3 weeks old and I think they are good in the set up we have, a med/lg size dog kennel that we took apart and butted each half to each other...about 5' by 2'. I do have an exercise pen ready for when it's time to start litter training and weaning...
Is it too soon to start introducing them to new experiences...my dogs, different rooms, textures, and sounds?
Thanks for any advice!![emoji]128573[/emoji]

That set up looks good for now. In a couple of weeks they will be ready to try out the exercise pen.

I don't think they need different rooms yet, but it's not too early for dog introductions as long as they are supervised and it's kept short initially.

They sure are cute! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

What about a litter box for the kittens? Eva is still stimulating them to "go" but I'm reading that they could start going on their own soon...

They're too young for now. You want to wait until they are eating solids.
