Hello all. It's been a while since I've been here but in the mean time there have been quite a few additions to the family. Okay...so little mama gave birth to a litter of six about 2 weeks ago in the nice box I had fixed for her. The box was and is located in what seems to me to be about the best place it could be located outside given the available possibilities.
I cleaned out all the soiled newspaper and towel I had in there for her when she gave birth and replaced it with clean paper the night before last. Well yesterday morning I go to feed her, Ringo, and I see her in the process of moving her kittens. Lo and behold she is putting them up in this big oak tree next to the driveway. It's all covered in ivy and I don't recall there being anyplace to house kittens up there. I know there was a possum staying up there a good while back.
Anyway I am really worried about them. It's been pouring rain earlier and more is expected. What should I do? Should I return them to the nice safe warm dry box she moved them from? Last night I was outside late with my dog and checked on Ringo and babies. It was raining a little but box is up off the ground inside little barn in the back yard. She was just outside the box looking down and around like maybe there was something out there. Maybe she felt it was no longer safe, I just don't know. What should I do? Thanks.

Can you still get the kittens?  Is taking them inside an option for you?  Even risking the momma wont follow, and you thus forced to raise them yourself?

Chance is good momma will follow them inside, but you can not be sure.  Doing the optimal, you must take soem risk.

Not doing nothing is legal, as she is a the mom in charge.  But we may suspect the adventure will not end well for every one of the kittens.

Othewise, you can try and take them back to the provisorical nest.  And or show her another one you have done, so she has something to choose amongst.

Please try to bring them all inside. Otherwise, mom can end up pregnant again any day and these kittens will not be safe.

At the very least get them out of the tree! They will surely fall and be hurt.
