So tomorrow is the big day in our house. My boys are going in to be neutered (which is slightly past due). I've already put away their food dishes. They go in for 8:30 am.

Their vet said I can pick them up any time after 2. Is it me or does that seem a little premature? I was planning on picking them up around 4 because I have to be at work for 5. This gives me just enough time to bring them home and get them settled. My teenage daughter will be holding down the fort for me. If you guys think it's alright - I'd love to pick them up soon as possible so they can be comfortable by the time I leave. I'm nervous in case there is a complication and I took them too soon away from the vet.

Should I let the boys be together or keep them separated? Any advice so I know what to expect? Will they be able to eat when they get home?

Any advice or tips are very appreciated! This is my first time dealing with this.

I don't see any problem at all with picking them up at 2. Neutering is a very minor surgery on the whole.

You can keep them together unless they start roughhousing too much. I wouldn't let them eat when they get home. Maybe wait a little bit, then offer them a small amount. If they can keep that down, then they can eat more. Some cats are nauseous after anesthesia.

Picking them up at 2 should be fine! It's a very simple surgery. Depending on how they react to anesthesia, they might be groggy for the rest of the day into the next day and it's normal if they don't feel like eating right when they get home. You can offer them food, though.

The vet should give you a list of things to watch out for and you can call them if you notice any of those symptoms. Otherwise most kittens heal really quickly from their neutering surgery. If they're likely to overgroom each other's incision sites, or play more roughly because they're together, then they may need to be separated for the first couple days.

Awesome, so 2 pm pick up time it is.

They usually do rough house quite a bit. They have even had real fights recently. I am concerned if a fight breaks ou they might hurt the incisions on each other. Maybe separating them would be the proactive thing to do.

Thank you! I hate to say that I am looking forward to this, but I am. The vet actually called Andy a tom cat at his last appointment!

2 is plenty of time.  Cat neuters are such simple quick surgeries.  I work at a vet and I have seen cat neuters go home as early as 10 or 11 when they are done first.  When I had Sawyer done, the vet did him right away since I just brought him to work with me, the actual surgery took maybe 5 mins, and he was done at 8:35!  Still had to wake up of course but it was very very quick.

I picked up my Pea-Pea after a spay at 12:30 back in December! My boys were probably ready long before I picked them up at 5, but it was a spay/neuter clinic in their case that had set drop off and pick up times for the entire day's group of patients.

They're home! Both are a bit groggy. Jake is seriously snuggley, but Andy seems a bit off and is hiding behind the couch. I'm thrilled this went so smoothly. I know the boys aren't happy, but I'm sure they will get over it.

Jake sounds like Oscar was when I got the boys neutered in August. He was very clingy the next day. Oliver was fine, but Oscar, who never was and ever since hasn't been clingy, was very clingy the next day.

Glad they are home!
