That kitten looks more like 6 weeks old to me. If at all possible and if you can afford care, I would consider getting a second kitten. It will really help with socialization since they are so young and energy management when a bit older.

It is normal for a kitten to hide when in a new place. It should be confined to a small, kitten-proof room while adjusting. The room should have unlimited kitten dry food and water, and several small litter box options with non-clumping litter only. If the kitten has any accidents, put them in the box. Kitten should also have bowls of kmr and wet kitten food provided several times a day.

For fleas, comb the kitten multiple times a day with a fine flea comb. You can dip the comb in water and dawn dish soap to drown the fleas. All bedding in the kitten's room should be washed daily, and the room should be vacuumed as well. Kitten may be old enough for Advantage II as well.

The kitten should get vaccines and be spayed or neutered when 8 weeks old.

Please do consider getting a second kitten. They will really be in need of a buddy, and it will make your life easier too.

Edit - you should go into the kitten's room to spend time with it. Sit on the floor, read out loud, offer treats, and let it come to you. It shouldn't take long for the kitten to become used to you.

Do you know how much the kitten weighs?  You can treat her with Advantage II for small kittens.

It doesn't sound like she has been socialized, i.e. held, played with, talked to.

If she is crying and not eating, she is starving. Please get her some kitten food and some kmr. Make sure it's not treat milk, but kitten milk replacer.

Yes, its a good idea.  They maybe arent even properly weaned, as we know they arent properly socialized.  And thus, you must do the work yourself.

Get home a kitten mothermilk replacement, not treat milk.  Avoid the Hartz brand.

Goat milk is also fine.  Raw goat milk is pricey, but really good.

Dont fear, when the socialization and fostering is properly done, you will get an excellent furry loving friend.  She may remain a little shy to visitors, but will be lovingly to family members.

I agee with the earlier comments, she is probably younger than 9 weeks - which is not so bad, you will have easier to socialize her.

Advantage II is safe.

And a playing pal is good.  If you dont take a littermate, take one whom IS already properly socialized, it will help you too.

Its not hurry with spaying at 8 weeks. Becoause you do own the cat.  It would be different if you want to adopt her out.  You can take it somewhat later too, as long you are sure its before she becomes fertile.  But this may be already at 4months, so dont wait too long!

Please see my post #2. There is a lot of information about litter boxes. She is to small for anything with a door.

Have you tried putting her in the litter box and showing her how to dig with her paw? Do this several times a day. It sounds like she's scared to death. As long as she's eating wet food she will eventually have to go. Are you sure she hasn't gone in a corner or under the bed? Can you get a littermate for her so she has a friend? It would help her! As mentioned above, you should sit with her in a room and let her explore and come to you. Read out loud. Let her get used to her voice. Do not stare at her.

Can you get another kitten? A second would really help the both of them to acclimate.

Yes, you need to pick her up and begin handling her whether she hisses or not. She will get used to you faster. Can you get some Gerber turkey or chicken baby food for her? Most tiny kittens love that. She needs to eat!
