Is this a reasonable price for custom shelves?

I think the drawer unit would work very well. You can get a top for the unit too- sold separately for an extra shelf

I think moving items you don't use too often in the harder to reach places is a good idea . Lazy Susan's are helpful in higher areas so you don't have to dig to the back

I'm going to spend tomorrow trying to purge and organize the cabinets to get a better idea of what exctly I need. I came cross this: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/look-organizing-our-new-kitche-50070 I do have a few of those wire add-a shelf things for plates in my pantry cabinet. If my dinner plates actally fit in my "normal" cabinets (never actually checked), then I can move them and my other dishes out of the pantry cabinet and along with the wire add-a-shelves.

I love the look of decorative boxes on shelves like this http://www.bhg.com/kitchen/storage/organization/kitchen-storage-solutions/#page=10 These trays or something similar would be nice: http://www.containerstore.com/s/storage/trays/herringbone-bamboo-trays/12d?productId=11001917

These boot boxes are exactly the same length as my cabinet and just fits through the door opening: http://www.containerstore.com/s/storage/storage-boxes/our-boot-box/12d?productId=10009590 Easy to slide in and out, too, although if the bottom has feet I'll have to add felt or something to prevent scratches to the shelves.

So many options
It's good knowing that I don't have to pay a small fortune to organize my pantry cabinet

The Container store sells those baskets too! Several different ones too (look in the "Containers" aisle for more, not just Kitchen or Closet areas.

and the wire shelves- I love these. I have several in my pantry, total space saver!

No go with the clips

The add-a-shelf is just a bit too big to slide in through the door so I have to remove a shelf to wedge the add-a-shelf in and then rotate into place. I'm not sure if a smaller sized shelf would fit over my dinner plates. Or maybe this would work. Or I can put the dishes back into the pantry.

I threw out quite a bit in the pantry so now I have this:

Top shelf are the two add-ashelves and stuff I rarely use (mini food processor, graters, tea pot set, baking dish). Next shelf down is the cat stuff. It's all pushed way into the back at the moment. Next shelf  are canned and jar goods and dry goods. Two bins fit prefectly inside the cabinet.

Top shelf are snacks plus mugs. I think the mugs can go into one of these. Next shelf is remaining snacks and tea and hot chocolate and glasses. Next one is stuff I use fairly regularily the toster, hot pot, trivets, some pots way in the back. Bottom has the cutting boards in one of those organizer things, a container of rice, water bottles.

Spices and baking stuff went to where the cat stuff used to be:

Food storage containers haven't moved from their cabinet.

I tried to keep like items together.

Quite a bit of stuff is going back to my parents' house: extra dishes and bowls and pitchers and stuff Mom insisted on giving me but I have never used.

I think I need at least a few more clear trays / bins. Definitely a glide out for the very bttom shelf so I don't have to dig around too much for the bulk and heay stuff.

Organization looks better already!

How about a flat screwdriver for those clips? That might give it some leverage. If not, hopefully your brother can do it!

Dishes are going to have to go back into the pantry so I can use the smaller cabinet for the cat stuff. I really don't have much cat stuff (cats eat raw) so there's no point in taking up space in the pantry for bowls and some cans. And if the clips won't budge, I can't really use an add-a-shelf to stack stuff. I'm going to need to use a glide out for the dishes in the pantry so I don't have to dig around for them like I had been doing up until this morning. The canned / jarred / dry stuff can be move up one shelf and the dishes can be put in the bottom with a glide out.

So I need two glide outs, one for each bottom shelf. Not sure if it's worth asking for an updated quote from the company? It would probably be closer to $1000 for just two glide outs, labor and delivery included. The lip on the shelves makes me about trying to install a glide out myself, over a plywood riser if needed
I wonder if a glide out with side or rear mounted gliders intead of the bottom would be able to clear the lip? I'm still debating the drawer system. I dont want to have wasted space around a drawer. I'm not sure if I really need glides out for any of the other shelves
. Trays that can slide and be removed would work. Or the boot box idea.

Hey LTS3, what do you keep in the cabinet under the kitchen sink? My sister feeds canned food to her cat clan and she stores the canned food and their bowls in a bin under her kitchen sink.....it's a really clean area, not dirty at all and so she keeps her cans and such out of her way. Would that work for bowls and such for your clan, too? That would get them out of the pantry and free up a bit of space for you.

Dish soap, the dish drying rack, a two tier shelf thing for sponges and rags and dishwasher pods, the trash can. Trash can has to stay in there because of Leroy
The under cabinet next to that has the recycling bin and related stuff.

I keep a small selection of canned food on hand so I don't need a lot of space for them and the cats' bowls and miscellaneous food related stuff. The cats eat raw. The cat stuff could share a shelf in the pantry with other stuff

I'm planning on going to the Container Store on Saturday. I browsed the web site and found a few possible things that could work to organize the pantry more. I like to see things in person before I decide to buy or not.

Have you ever been to the store before?

and yes, do check things out in person. I can't wait to see what you'd come home with!

The Container Store
There's one near me that I frequent often. I have bought various things: under the bed storage boxes, a lot of gift wrap stuff, food storage containers, my current trash can and recycling bin, other kitchen stuff.... I've found quite a few things on the clearance rack, too. Which reminds me, I have a (slightly dented) woven basket from said clearance rack. It's just holding a box of garbage bags at the moment. It should fit into the cabinet so I might need to buy one less basket / tray.

Today was shopping day

The white plastic tray I found on the clearance rack

I left the store tags and stickers on just in case I decide something doesn't quite work and needs to be returned. The undershelf basket with the cups may likely be moved to another shelf / cabinet so I can access the stuff in the basket behind it. The shelf liner under the tray with the pots and hot pot / kettle and toaster will be removed so I can slide the tray in and out. I'm going to put felt pads on the bottom of the tray to prevent scratches.

I repurposed the dented basket I already had:

Looking better already
I think I need to go back to the store tomorrow and get a small sized brown basket to hold the bags of chips and opened snacks in ziploc bags. I think the white plastic tray will go in the cabinet above the microwave. I forgot I had a few extra food storage containers way up there
The shelf needs a good cleaning first to remove the sticky grease residue from cooking. I guess the grease gets in through the small gap between the doors.

I replied back to the design consultant about getting a quote for just two shelves instead of the eight but haven't heard back yet. Not sure if she took a few days off for Passover or to stay home with the kids during school vacation week. I'll give her a call on Monday.

I still want two glide out shelves. I'm hoping to get an updated quote for that from the design consultant.

Less than $800 for just two glide out shelves, both the basic and the premium. That's a more reasonable price that I can afford
Would love to do the whole cabinet but it's a stretch for $2000+. I'm leaning towards the premium because it looks more polished than the classic and the cut out handles are included

Yes, labor and delivery and the coupon discount are included
I'm going to go ahead and order the two shelves
I think the designer said an installer would come to do more specific measurements of the cabinet so the shelves would fit perfectly. Then it's an 8 to 10 week wait for the shelves to be made, delivered, and installed. The designer said that it usually doesn't take that long but they like to give customers a longer expected wait time just to be safe.

Kitchen cabinet almost done
Next up: organizing the hallway / utility closet. I think Elfa would work in here. Going to wait for the next Elfa sale to do this.

Small update: the installer came today to take measurements. Leroy was very interested in his shoes and bag
Memo to me: put Leroy in the bedroom when the shelves are installed so he doesn't get in the way and eat a screw or something. The installer is putting the order in tonight and will call to schedule the installation when the shelves are ready, maybe in 6 weeks or so.

The installer has my shelves
He called last Friday to set up an appointment. I missed his call and when I later returned it, I got a message saying he was out of the office for the next week
Supposedly he was back yesterday but he didn't return the message I left him. So maybe next week we'll get in touch and set up an appointment. It'll probably take him all of 15 minutes to install.

The big reveal

I moved the cat stuff out of the upper cabinet to the smaller one next to it:

The shelves work great
My only quibble is that my cutting board no longer fits in the very bottom shelf of the cabinet.  It will fit if I can get the shelf above to move up one notch but I stil haven't been able to get those stupid shelf clips to budge
The cutting board currently is stored on the shelf above the glide out. I hardly ever use the cutting board anyways so it really doesn't matter.
