hello , my cat is two years old

today I wanted to go to the vet to get her spayed m but since I don't have a carrier I put her in  a medium sized cage.

in the beginning she was calm but suddenly she started to jump and tried to escape she couldn't at first but then somehow she escaped I don't even know how??

now she is hiding somewhere but I really need to get her spayed because I have a male in the house and I don't want her to get pregnant, kittens are a big responsibility.

Can you coax her out with her favorite treat or food? If she escaped once, she could do it again. Make sure whatever you put her in, it closes securely and stays closed. You don't want her to runaway when you're in the vet's parking lot. Any chance you can invest in a good top-loading carrier? You'll get much use out of it taking your cats to and from the vet.

Can you get the male neutered today instead? They should both be fixed, and should be separated until they both are.

Please get a secure cat carrier for both of your cats. Everyone who owns cats must have a carrier, IMO. I'm not sure what kind of cage you tried to use but it obviously isn't secure enough. Temporarily borrow a carrier from someone you know who has cats. You can try looking for a used or free carrier on Craigslist or a local Freecycle.org group. Avoid the cardboard ones you might see at the pet store. They're not secure enough.

If she's been around the male she's almost certainly pregnant already :/. It IS spring after all. The litter can be aborted when she's spayed if she's not too far along, if you and the vet are comfortable with that.

You can find fairly inexpensive carriers at Menard's (seems like a weird place to buy pet stuff but sometimes they have the best prices!). Look in the dog section and get a small dog carrier (plastic not wire). . .for some reason a lot of places charge extra for cat supplies. Walmart has reasonable prices too. Don't buy one from a pet shop; they're the most expensive. You can also ask at the local shelter---the Humane Society here gets a lot of donated carriers and sells the extras for cheap. Or craigslist. But you definitely need a proper carrier.

I assume the cage you put her in was a wire dog crate? They have large gaps under the tray so that's probably how she got out. Those just aren't made for cats and other small critters (I once tried to use a dog crate as a cage for my ferret. Didn't work!).

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
My local animal shelter often throws away cat carriers due to having too many. Check them and see if they have one they are discarding. Good Will. Free ads on craigslist. or ask neighbors if they have one-I see them all the time at yardsales etc.

Shelters also use those  cardboard with the handles

Good thought. Around here, it seems that our vet offers his surplus of carriers  to shelters as he accumulates them from cats making their final journey
