Hello
My kitten has just turned 7 weeks
The last two days he has been drinking excessive amounts of water. He will drink water every 2 minutes for around half an hour then drink water whenever he visits the kitchen. My other kittens do not drink this much and I'm starting to think maybe there is something wrong with him? He's a bit of a cry baby (been loud since birth) will cry for cuddles. Will cry when he needs a wee so you have to take him to the litter tray yourself otherwise he will wee on the rug, will cry when he wants some of your food, by crying I mean cute little squeaks. Any ideas if this is something I should be worried about? Thanks

3 things pop into my head.

First, what are the kittens eating primarily?  If kibble, it could be this one is getting dehydrated more rapidly.

Or, diabetes comes to mind also.  I don't know how common it is in kittens but I'm assuming it happens.

Or, the kitten has an urinary track infection - more common in male cats.

I'd have your vet check him out just to reassure you.

All kittens are eating kitten food with gravy. The wet kind but he is the only one who drinks so much water. Will the vet be able to tell if he is diabetic?

Absolutely. They will run a blood panel and a urinalysis I believe.

If he is, they'll be able to advise you on proper nutrition for him and, lots of people here have diabetic cats who can help as well.

Are they born with it? He won't die will he? I'm absolutely in love with him and would hate to see anything happen :- ( will call the vets tomorrow to see what they advise.

Is the kitten other than the drinking overall okay? Meaning, does he have diarrhea or seemingly sick (fever e.g.). They might also drink more if they are losing more fluid than usual. You should get him checked for sure, sudden excessive drinking is not normal.

Nope, poo is solid. Playing a lot, very energetic, eating good.

Yes he can be born with diabetes, but he will be fine if he does have it. It's pretty easily managed these days, but he would probably have to stay with you.
It's very common in mini schnauzers (I volunteer at a vets office) and they are given either injection or pills, both of which are easy to administer.

But none the less, I hope he isn't ill in any manner and I hope everything turns out alright!
