Should I just lift her out and not let her go in? Or wait until I see baby and then move her? I know sometimes they try to deliver in he box and that I'm supposed to prevent that....but now that it's happening I'm not sure about logistics.

I would put her in a more appropriate nesting box with a similar level of privacy. It's not safe for a kitten to be delivered in a litter box.

Two kittens born this morning around 10am. Birth weights 110g and 116g. First kitten had a prolonged delivery (about an hour between when I first saw sac in birth canal to actual birth) and the long delivery was followed by slower recovery from birth. At any rate, she eventually started breathing and seemed OK, but compared to the 2nd born she is much slower and weaker.

Second born nursed right away and fell asleep at the teet but first born seems either too weak or incapable of latching on. I've tried holding her up to a nipple or even inserting the nipple into her mouth but no success..or interest really.

How long should Inwait before considering some supplementation with KMR?

I'm not looking for an exact number but is waiting 6 or 7 hours reasonable or will I risk having her overly dehydrated by then?

I'm definitely going to be watching her weight closely. At 110g she is a healthy birth weight but we all know how quickly that can change.

She definitely wasn't looking for privacy as she practically delivered in my arms and the litter box was in the middle of the room...but story has a happy ending as babies arrived :)

..oh, and the arrival was NOT in the litter box. (It was on the carpet between litter box and birthing box.)

I would start supplementing her immediately. No need to let her get behind before you try to help her out. Feed her tummy down, head up, one drop at a time into her cheek using a needleless syringe or a pipette. Kittens with a mom won't take a bottle. Kitten and formula must be warm.

Try feeding her 2ml every 2 hours for a few days. I bet this one will catch up to its sibling quickly.

Please be sure to keep mom completely inside and away from intact males until she can be spayed. Mom and babies can be fixed when babies are 8 weeks old. I'm sure you know the drill since you foster!

I've heard some mom's labor there, or get confused by their desire to push. I'm happy they're here. How many did she end up having? Hope mom and babies are doing well. [emoji]128512[/emoji]
