My kitties LOVE milk, but when i give it to them i do it in small portions and at most once a week. I have heard the endless debate about wether or not cats should drink milk, and i want what is best for my kitties! Can anybody out there give me some good information?

Most cats are lactose intolerant so regular cow's milk is not recommended as it could cause bowel issues.

Not all cats have this problem - one of mine loves it but we limit his intake to rare instances - I bet it isn't more than a couple of times a year and, in very small amounts (a tablespoon or so).

If you cat is really wild for milk - try substituting goat's milk.  It is more easily digested.  There is also "milk" you can buy specifically for cats, although these need to be used up within a day or so.  Not very economical at all unless you are supplementing a diet for nutritional purposes.

If your cats are tolerating regular milk I don't see any problem with giving it as a treat but, perhaps, limit it a bit more than you have been.

Goats milk is tolerated well by cats, I wouldn't let them drink a huge amount, but cats usually don't any way. There is a kitten replacement milk that you can give, it keeps for a long time because it is a powder and needs to be mixed with water. I give it as a treat, and it can be given to sick cats as a 'boost'. I'm sure it is high in calories so be careful, I don't have that problem with my skinny elder cat.  I have given regular cow's milk to cats for years in the past, but you must monitor to make sure they don't have diarrhea or get sick because of it. Good luck!
