Hi everyone.
My first post and hope this is ok im just looking for advice, its a bit of a long story so apologies if i go on.

My elderly neighbour passed away 4 weeks ago, he had 2 cats, one cat that was put to sleep 6 weeks ago (he was old and suffered kidney failure he fell ill very quickly we think its because he also picked up on his owner being very ill) and another cat.
Well my neighbours sons were going to put the cat in to a rescue center but i said i dont mind taking the cat on.
Anyway we have had the cat inside my home for 3.5weeks now, we havent let the cat out just so it can get used to being with us now.
Anyway we always thought this cat was a boy, and have done since my neighbour got "him" the vet check done at 8 weeks along with the injections and health check states that the cat was a boy so cat was named oggy
Anyway i took oggy to the vets 2 weeks ago to have a check over and sort his back leg fur out as it was very matted.
Turns out that oggy is actually a girl and heavily pregnant with 4/5 kittens.
This was confirmed by a ultrasound.
So oggy is due babys as from today, i followed all the information given to me by my vet we have 5 nest areas set up, in my wardrobe, bathroom, bedroom, front room, kitchen and also have bought kitten replacement milk just incase, oggy is also on kitten food.

So after the long story of what has happened im worrying because we have not seen her nesting at all, she is still eating alot, nothing on the vets information sheet she is doing?.
She stays in the same place on the carpet in my front room quite alot, and she is sleeping alot more, she does follow me if i go off to the bathroom she likes to know im around so to speak.
I may just be over paranoid as i have been reading alot of things on the internet and she should be showing symptons of nesting etc.
Hope someone can help me
Many thanks x

Its quite common they dont nest before the delivery. or just immediately before. In the nature they dont want to get the nest smelly or flea infested too early.  But be assured she appreciates knowing there ARE nest for them children.

So she may delivery in one of the nests, she may deliver anywhere including your knee too...

She will probably have her tummy rubbed the last days.  Do so!

If you have any questions or reports, please use this thread, which is now your own tread.

Brilliant thank you very much, i was also beginning to worry as we have only had her a short while and our neighbour only lived 2 doors up from us that she wasnt comfortable here and may have wanted to go back to her original home to have them, she is also attempting to get out the door when its opened, so that crossed my mind.
But thank you for the advice x

If she follows you everywhere inclusive the bathroom, it shows she KNOWS you are her new Mom (Dad?).   :)

Still, dont let her out.  At least, not untill the kittens are happily weaned and she spayed and healthy again.

.

Yes my vet has advised me once the kittens are around 9 weeks old to get her spayed.
We already have our own girl a 8 month old spayed torti, quick question my own girl is a cat that does as she pleases lives a life of luxury, but she follows oggy around alot do i have to block of a room once oggy has the kittens away from her?

I would keep Oggy out after the kittens are born-I have heard mom cats get mad at others in her space-but others have not had a problem-as long as its supervised I would say watch mom's body language. If the tail starts snapping or ears go back/flat then watch out. Your cat is probably just curious about whats going on..and who knows she may want to see what is the fuss is about as far as kittens.

Some cats give birth right on your pillow..my sisters cat I have been told has given birth on my sisters pillow..so its really up to mom cat. As long as its dark, quiet and secure she will let you know-and she will want tummy rubs and may want you with her when she is ready to give birth. so try to keep her litter food/water in that room that you have set up-so she doesn't have to leave the kittens too long.

Keep us posted.

I agree with Foxxycat.  If they are best friends and momma doesnt mind your resident being there, do watch some in the beginning, but you can allow them be together.  There is a good chance your resident will help out with the care.

But if Oggy feels your residents following is mostly a nuisance, consider to separate them already now.    The high preg and momma goes always first, and her and her childrens needs goes always first.

But dont forget to show the resident Mommy is loving verry much!  so we dont get problems with jealousy.

Thank you stefanz and foxxycat.
Oggy is in my bedroom quite happy laying on my bed, she has a litter tray in there with her plus her food and water, and she knows there is a nest in the wardrobe she keep peeking at it from my bed.
(Missy my own cat) is happily asleep on the sofa right now so i think i will keep them apart just incase as apart from maybe seeing each other around outside they havent been together long and would hate for anything to happen.
Of course i will keep you updated,i really appreciate your advice thank you.
Im sure there will be other questions that i think of that i may need help answering.
Again thank you both x

Hey just a update and a bit of reassurance needed if possible.

So at the time we didnt know anything about oggy and when she was caught by a male.
As you know we went for a ultrasound and my vet had said 2 weeks left give or take. (2 weeks left would of been last Wednesday 13th april).

Anyway i spoke to my neighbours sons friday 15th and they told me that oggy apparently went missing on the 14th February all night and didnt come back until the next day as they had text messages from my neighbour then worrying about oggy.
I phoned my vet friday afternoon and explained that by his scan dates oggy still hasnt had babys and i told him of the 14th February date..
He has told me if nothing happens by monday 25th then we have to go in.
Now hopefully im correct but if she got caught on the 14th February that means she is 67 days pregnant now.
There are still no signs at all of impending labour and im so worried x

65 days is normal, but 70 is not uncommon. Since you don't know when she mated and she doesn't appear to be in distress, I wouldn't worry.

No worries. If she mated Feb. 14th she is in the correct range. She will have them on her own soon. Try to relax and be patient. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It's only after day 70 with no signs of kittens coming that they should take a look at her. She's okay right now! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thank you all, before we knew of that date its just because of the ultrasound and the vet gave the dates of last week.. then i started panicking because of what my neighbours boys said about the 14th feb.
I was on another forum site about cats and was being told horror stories basically about what could be wrong.
So i have actually left there now as it was a bit upsetting.
I do worry so much about her, she is such a laid back cat but earlier this afternoon we have finally had a interest in the nest box in the wardrobe only for 5 mins but she has never bothered before.

Rub her tummy if she wants and allows - most does - this is helping things going  :)

Quick update, oggy has delivered 6 kittens last night.
She started off crying at me in the kitchen and going in and out of the box in the wardrobe.. then decided to stay in the front room in another nest area we done for her. around 2 hours later the 1st kitten arrived.
My resident cat was there to see everything that happened and they have both been absolutely fine with each other.
Thank you very much for your advice i really appreciate it x

Depens on.  She may surely have some after contractions.    Are you sure she is done?

But if she is done, and has panting, its a good reason to be extra watchful.  And if anything more is worrying...
