Hi! Just signed up to ask if any of you have experience using these meds on your furbaby?

Long story short - just adopted a siamese from the local shelter. My boy is 6 yo and got some teeth removed on April 7. I had to give him tolfedine until this morning.

He's also quite nervous and hasn't been eating much. Poor baby was surrendered mid-March and was super stressed at the shelter. He lost a little over a pound, maybe more, over the 3 or so weeks he was ar the shelter (he's at 9 or so lbs right now).

I adopted him on Sunday morning and he has been doing quite great at my house since then. Except he hasn't been eating much and I was really concerned because he's already lost a ton of weight in the past month....

So I gave him a 1/4 (or maybe 1/6, I tried to shave down the pill a little) of mirtazapine tonight, about 10 hours after his last dose of tolfedine. The vet didn't say anything in her notes about a possible interaction, but I didn't get to see her in person when I adopted the cat. Has anyone here ever given their cat a NSAID with mirtazapine before? Is it dangerous to do so?

Cat seems fine (he ate a little!) and more cuddly and vocal than he has been since I got him. But I worry about potentially having done something terrible.... :( can anyone chime in?! Many thanks!!!

So I called my regular vet and they said using anti-inflammatories along with mirtazapine should be fine, especially if they're taken several hours apart. Whew!

Figured I'd leave that info out there in case anyone else ever has to go down that road with their cat!

Now, to get him to eat more than a few bites of canned food at a time...

I hadn't ever heard about an interaction.  Some kitties do behave strangely while on mirtazapine, usually becoming very hyper and vocal.  Of course I don't know what would constitute being abnormally vocal in a Siamese.  There is really no way of knowing how a kitty will react other than to try it.  The behavior isn't permanent, it goes away when the medicine works out of kitty's system.

He seems to be doing better indeed today! I just knew that some anti-inflammatories in humans don't mix well with certain types of antidepressants (like mirtazapine) so I was worrying about that being true as well for felines. Vet says nope, not that she knows of :D
