In October of last year I fell at work broke my wrist, got bruised ribs and a bruised chin.  My broken wrist was officially diagnosed as a dorsally angulated displaced extra-articular right distal radius fracture.  I was told surgery is the usual treatment for this injury but I chose not to do this and let the fracture heal on its own.  I had a cast on my arm for seven weeks,  when the cast was removed the doctor recommended therapy, and said  my next appointment would be in two months.  I know where they have very good physical and occupational therapists in my town but I wasn't allowed to go there.  Instead I had to have my therapy done where the doctor wanted it done and this place wasn't nearly as good as the place I had wanted.  The therapist did my therapy very slowly and seemed to be catering to what the doctor wanted.  After the two months were over I was released to go back to work without restrictions and told I had another follow up appointment in two months when I would probably be released from care.  This last appointment will be Thursday of this week.

My question is does it normally take six months to be released from doctor's care after a fracture or is this kind of weird?

i suspect your doctor is maintaining contact for something of a prolonged period of time given your injury simply because he/she is concerned that your decision to ignore medical advice and refuse the usual and recommended treatment will more than likely result in sequelae/failure to recover and he/she feels the need to cover his/her a$$. ..

Actually, the fracture healed fully and normally which is something the doctor was aware of 4 months ago.  Also, the doctor knew everything in my hand, wrist and arm  was back to normal functioning two months ago when he released me to go back to work without restrictions which showed he knew everything was ok.  I need to explain something further, the doctor wanted to do surgery immediately,  and I was worried about this because I have a medical condition and I didn't want to be on the operating table the required 2 or 3 hours without being checked out to make sure it was safe first.  I had a follow-up appointment with the doctor several days later and I had thought surgery would possibly be scheduled at that time, but when I got to that appointment the doctor put me in a cast.  Any more comments?
